I did not have SS spousal benefits on 2024 and prior years after I retired as the law at that time said I did not qualified after I retired. My wife has SS benefits all along after she retired. However, the Windfall Elimination Program revived my spousal benefit and in 2025 I received a lump sum payment for my 2024's. The benefits numbers were inputted and I ran the return review and a number 17,275 came out on the error page that need to be fixed. I don't know how that number came in as my lump sum number was much lower. top of the page said (see attached): Earlier year Lump sum SS ws (2024) Earlier year taxable SS benefits should not be greater than zero. Should I change it to 0 ?

I made contributions to a traditional IRA in 2025 and the section to input that info is not available yet. It says they’re updating the section for the latest tax laws, indicating it will be ready by February, or likely sooner. Well, I’m still waiting and it’s almost the fourth week of February. Any idea when this update might be available?

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on February 26. The date is subject to change, so check on 2-26 to see if it is ready. Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.

The Capital Loss Carryover worksheet is only using Line 15 from tax return 2024. Yes, Line 15 of the 2025 tax return says subtract line 14 from 11b, but that has nothing to do with the 2024 tax return. When you are entering the amounts for a capital loss carryover, you enter the actual amount from LINE 15 from your 2024 tax return. On the 2024 tax return, line 15 says subtract line 14 from 11 - because there was no 11b on the 2024 tax return.
You enter the amount from last year's return, so you can edit it if you need to. Instead of using parenthesis, put a negative sign (-) in front if the number is negative.
How do I enter my capital loss carryover?

No. The Standard Deduction isn’t changing. It is automatic based on your age. It is not part of your Standard Deduction. The new Senior Deduction is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. The 6,000/12,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b with any other sch 1-A amounts. Turbo Tax automatically includes it if you qualify. If you are married you have to file a Joint return.
For Online version You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/accessing/help/how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-filing/00/26160 What do you have on 1040 or 1040SR line 13b? See the 1040 …. ,

The "No Tax on Restored Benefits Act" was just introduced this month (February 2026) and has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee. While it has broad bi-partisan support, there is currently no confirmed timeline for passage. Assuming it does pass, I find it quite unlikely that it would include any changes for this tax filing season. It's a really big deal to make changes in the middle of the filing season. More likely it would include provisions to allow for recouping any taxes paid on a future tax return - just my opinion. What action Congress will take, and when is anybody's guess. No one here has a crystal ball. If I personally was potentially affected by its passage, I would go ahead file now.

You cannot change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted. The IRS does not allow it.
Did you already e-file? If you did NOT e-file you can go to the FILE section step 2 to enter/change how you want to receive your refund. If you want direct deposit you need the routing number and your own account number.
If you e-filed:
Banking information for direct deposit is wrong or closed
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.

You may get this notice— a cp53a notice
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-cp53a-notice
If you take NO action—-the IRS will freeze your refund for at least six weeks and then mail you a check.
If your refund is sent back to the IRS—- make certain that the address you entered on your Form 1040 is correct. And…open all mail, even if it looks like junk mail.
