I am an F-1 student and I accidentally filed my tax return as a resident using TurboTax. Later, I realized that I should have filed as a nonresident. I was able to amend my state tax return in TurboTax, but I am unsure what to do about my federal return. I am considering using Sprintax, but I do not see an option to file an amended return for 2025 there. Also, I am not sure which sections I would need to correct manually on Form 1040-NR. Could someone please guide me on:
If you are only a landlord and not in the business of renting properties, then you do not need to give any contractor or company that provided a service to rental property a Form 1099-NEC.

I think it is REDICULOUS that Turbo Tax removed the It's Deductible Application from within the Software.  It made record keeping much more efficient.  I am not sure if TT has new management but every change they have done and continue to do is at the detriment to all the decades long loyal users.   Sure you have the tool that provides High and Low estimates for one article at a time but come on TT Management Organization give me a break ... this is the only Software Application I know that seems to make things inherently harder every year instead of easier.   Is Turbo Tax secretly run by a new department set up in the last 4 years by the Government Department of INEFFICIENCY ?     This may be my last year using this Software --- it's very disheartening what they have done every year for the past few years or so to make this software harder to use and try to force people to use the ONLINE version.

Just ran in to same bug on 2025.  Tried a couple suggestions including deleting , re-entering div statement (but NJ was first and XX second).  Switched to put 'XX' first and that did not work.  But editing the form and changing the state earned from NJ to XX did work.  Was a little surprised that the taxable part went to dividends instead in of taxable interest but at least I am now reporting the correct income.
I worked in California for 3 days for a business days. Do I have to file state income tax even if I am not a resident of that state?

I have a house that's been rented for 10 years. I decided to sell the house after my last tenant destroyed it. I had to do all kinds of repairs and renovations for at least 5 months before I put the house for sale. Do I have to complete Form 1099-NEC for those independent contractors who did the work in the house before I sold it? In theory, I was not in the business of renting the house in those 5 months, was I? Thank you for your help!

Are you indicating that you amended your tax return and it's showing that it will take 180 days to process?  It generally takes 8 to 16 weeks to process an amended tax return (Form 1040-X). In some cases, it may take longer if your return needs further review.   Refer to the IRS website Where’s My Amended Return? for more information and Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return: Frequently asked questions.

The response provided by Turbo Tax "support" here is both inadequate and incorrect.   Realized gains from selling real estate held as an investment, whether inherited or not, are to be reported through form 1099-S, NOT 1099-B.   Turbo Tax software, indeed the "Premium" edition, has a BIG BUG whereby it forces the user into Form 1099-B even when the user specifically and correctly selects the option to use form 1099-B for such a case to report realized capital gain on real estate held as in investment.   Recommendation (hopefully ore helpful than Turb Tax "support): start using a more reputable solution like HR Block Software. They actually seem to know what they are doing.

I would like this to also be shared!   So thankful for our SECOND turbo tax expert, Kamal Z! Our first turbo tax expert, Kenneth R, had a lot of trouble getting our return filed. Kenneth offered us to sign up for the Trump account during our tax filing which we thought would save us time. It did not. Once we filed our return it was quickly rejected due to an error with the Trump accounts. Kenneth tried fixing it over several days with no luck. He eventually told us to sit tight. We waited....and waited....and waited. After reaching back out to Kenneth and receiving NO word we then received an email that we had to find a new tax expert or file our taxes on our own.   Thankfully, we were matched with Kamal Z!! He was exceptional! He knew right away how to solve the issue as well as discovering errors our first tax expert had made which we would have had no idea were made. Kamal was knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He used great critical thinking skills to solve our error and we finally after almost a MONTH of dealing with this, got our taxes filed and filed properly. So thankful for Kamal's diligence and knowledge on how to do things right!   Now in the grand scheme of things, is it Turbo Tax's fault or our first tax expert? Even though Kamal was great, would we ever utilize this service again? I do not feel taxes should take almost a month to file and fix errors. Very frustrated with the overall experience of the Full Service but thankful for Kamal.   Thank you,
If I only made 20,348. How come my federal return is only 72 dollars?

During the 2025 tax year, I withdrew 12,500 from my Roth IRA. This was well under my total contributions since the inception of the Roth IRA that I opened in 2012. This is the first time I've withdrawn from the Roth IRA. When I got to the question of "What were your Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025" I was eager to enter 27,500 into the blank to prove the amount I withdrew was well under my total contributions, thus preventing me from paying any penalties. However, I noticed toward the end of the process that my AL State refund was way higher than usual with no other changes anywhere other than me withdrawing from my Roth IRA. I reviewed my AL state tax return and it had put 15,000 under "OTHER MISC EXPENSES" under itemized deductions. Which makes no sense. I went back through my info and changed my "What were your Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025" answer to 12,500 (rather than 27,500) and it fixed the issue. My AL State refund is now in line with years past. Can someone explain this? It seems like there is an issue with how the software is receiving info and placing it on the AL state return. It seems like it should have asked me how much of my withdrawal was made up of contributed funds, which would be all of it.
