I am entering the data in "Step by Step" mode, but I'm verifying the results in "Forms" mode. That is what I took screen shots of (the results). For example: I had to manually change the code in the form to XX from AZ. Perhaps if I deleted the form altogether and re-imported it / re-entered it, it would work better. Side note: I find it more than a little annoying that the FIs don't actually have all this built into their forms instead of assuming that self-preparers know all this on their own. If you had used "Step by Step" mode for these interest entries, the "State where the dividends were earned. Postal code (such as "CA" or "NY")" would be coded XX and the allocation of the non-resident state interest would have appeared correctly on AZ Form 140 line 15. If all the dividends came from one state, that state code would be on that line, but because the dividends came from multiple states (including the resident state), that line would need to be coded XX. The top set of data with code AZ would be OK, but the next two dividend entries should have code XX in the "State where the dividends were earned" line. When you do this, this should correctly allocate your dividends between AZ and all other states, with the other states dividends appearing on line 15 of AZ Form 140. Interesting. To test your theory, I replaced "AZ" with "XX" for the bottom two FIs and that data did populate AZ-140's Line 15. However, the top set of data where the source all came from one state (CA), AZ doesn't work in that field -- that amount doesn't carry. Only when I change it to "CA" does it carry as it should. I can only conclude that the "State where the dividends were earned. Postal code (such as "CA" or "NY") ___" field is NOT the state where you live when you receive dividend, but rather the state where the dividends came from. The wording is rather confusing.
