To find files For Windows Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2024 etc?And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in One Drive, Drop Box, etc. It should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2024 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one. If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2024". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it. Don't know if this will help any Turbo Tax users but one Quicken user found them...... What I found was that my Quicken Data files ended up in the One-drive Recycle bin. Not sure how, but I found them there. I placed the files back onto the laptop and brought the files into Quicken and now have all my data back. Are you on Windows or Mac? Have you been using the Online version the last several years? Do you need to move all the programs or just your returns? Your returns are not in the program but in separate files. You only need the file ending in .tax2024 to transfer into 2025. On the old computer, Your tax files end in .tax or .tax2022 or .tax2023 or .tax2024 etc. They should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder. You should also have the pdf files of each year. Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax. Also if you haven't done it, I would open each year in the program and save it as a PDF file, go to File-Save to PDF so you don't need the program installed to view or print your return in the future like to get a mortgage or loan, etc. What I would do is just copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents. That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored. Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them. Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder.

Enter at Educational Expenses and Scholarships, under Deductions and credits (not the income section). Answer yes to having education expenses and working on a degree, even if you’re not. That’s needed to get to the scholarship entry screen. Check received scholarship, grant or aid at the Did you have any of these common situations screen. At the scholarship screen, enter the amount of the grant. When asked if any was used for room and board, answer yes. Then enter the amount you want to be taxable (usually all of it), in the pop up box. R&B are not "qualified educational expenses". So, this is how you tell TT that it is taxable. You didn’t have to literally use the scholarship for R&B. This will put it on line 8r of Schedule 1.
Fellowships that pay for qualified educational expenses (QEE - tuition, fees, books and other course materials) is tax free. Scholarship amounts that exceed QEE is taxable income, on the student’s tax return. Room & board are not QEE.
If box 5 of the 1098-T exceeds box 1, TurboTax (TT) will treat the difference as taxable income, unless you enter additional QEE at books and other expenses.
Scholarships are a hybrid between earned and unearned income. It is earned income for purposes of the $15,750 filing requirement (2025) and the dependent standard deduction calculation (earned income + $450). It is not earned income for the kiddie tax and other purposes (e.g. EIC). For grad students and post grad fellows, scholarship, stipend and fellowship income is earned income ("compensation") for IRA contributions.

Filing part time resident tax for in Colorado. I am checking for errors and got this message: Check this entry Form 104: Sales Tax Refund Question for Timely Filed Return should be blank. What line are you talking about? what question should be blank. I don't know what line to check to fix this supposed error. I am not requesting a sales tax refund. How do I get past this so no errors come up in error check. thanks, Thank you.

The culprit is often a cluttered or "broken" cache. Since these temporary files can interfere with how the software loads, cleaning them out usually fixes the issue.
If you are using the web-based version, try these three troubleshooting methods:
Clear out your stored cache and cookies
Use an Incognito or Private window
Try logging in through a different web browser (for example, moving from Chrome to Firefox or Edge)

You add that on to the amount you entered for original cost; this represents your adjusted cost basis.

Log in to TurboTax, go to Tax Home, scroll down to your tax returns & documents, select the year you want to amend. Then select the Amend (change) return drop-down. Choose Amend using TurboTax Online. On the "Why are you amending?" screen, choose "The IRS or state contacted me" and "Continue," this will allow you to just amend the state and leave the federal return as it was.
Enter the missed $240 estimate(s) by navigating to Deductions and Credits > Deductions & Credits Summary > Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Estimated Tax Payments > State estimated taxes for 2025

Try putting zeros in lines 1a and 1b of the Form 1099-DIV in TurboTax if your form does not have a value in those lines.
