I had excess HSA contributions for 2025 that were returned to me with earnings in March 2026, due to Medicare enrollment backdating effective to August 1, 2025. In TT, I marked my insurance plan as Medicare/None for August through December 2025. From prior posts, I understood that only the net HSA contributions would show on form 8889. But the full employer contribution of $9550 is showing on line 9 and line 8 is showing $5571 which is equal to 7/12th of contributions that are eligible. The difference of $3979 of excess contributions are showing on line 8f on schedule 1. Is that the correct way it should be reported?? Also other posts say just put the earnings in as interest income which is now showing on Schedule B line 1. (although i did not see an option to check that I didn't get a 1099 ). Yet, other posts seem to imply that earnings on excess contribution should be on Schedule 1. Which is correct reporting for earnings on the excess and if the latter, which line should it appear? Thank you.

Okay so I admittedly know nothing about crypto, long story short I got scammed into buying bitcoin, and transferring it to a different users account. They were supposed to pay me for it, but because I didn’t know what I was doing, they had me transfer it instead of sell it. I didn’t know until it was too late, I sold the last $1 of bitcoin I had immediately after. The 1099-DA form I received only shows record of the $1 I sold, what all do I need to do? I do not want to get in trouble but this is so confusing.

E-filing fee in desktop software Did you purchase desktop software with state software included?  They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose.  And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state.  There is an extra $25 fee to e-file the state.  You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.

You are exactly correct.    TT will ask you about non-deductible (after-tax) contributions after you have entered all 1099s. Have you finished the whole section — not just the 1099-R in question? I think it does it that way because the return of basis calculation aggregates all non-ROTH IRAs (for example) for a particular taxpayer.   The desktop software question looks like this:
Good to hear it's fixed in general, but as of 3/13, the "offline" desktop version has not gotten any update yet that fixes this issue.

A state refund would only go on the federal return.  And only if it is taxable income.  A State Tax Refund is taxable if you itemized deductions on that prior year's federal return and took a deduction for state income taxes instead of the sales tax. You got a deduction benefit for it so now you have to include it as income. If you took the Standard Deduction it is not taxable and you don't need to report it. Check your 1040 line 12 to see which deduction you took.    To enter a state refund just type 1099-G or 1099-g (with the dash) in the search box at the top of your return and click on Jump To it. Enter the 1099G under Federal on the left side Wages & Income at the top Scroll down to Other Common Income You might need click on Show More to expand the section Then it's the first line for Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns - Click Start or Revisit You do not want the next line that says Other 1099G Income

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

You probably answered the Living in a Foreign Country wrong.  Go back though the Social Security entries and double check the questions. Right after you enter the SSA-1099,  There is one that asks… Are you a U.S. citizen who lived abroad in one of these countries in 2025? Should pick NO.
If you entered a 1099R for a pension, you just need to say it was all an RMD.   A pension fulfills the requirements for RMD.
