If you are using TurboTax Online, you cannot prepare and file a tax return for another person using an existing TurboTax account. You'll need to create a new account, distinct from the account you used to file the first return.   If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can start a new return by clicking on Start a new return on the Welcome page of TurboTax.   Please read this TurboTax Help topic on how to start a new tax return for another person.

Hi eunseokwak, thanks for finding this thread. I was the one who started it. I’ve already spent two hours on the phone with TurboTax support across two separate calls and still haven’t found a solution. If you happen to find a workaround, please post it here. Much appreciated!
For the months you were not covered, leave all the columns blank (empty), no zeros

I filed my federal tax return as a J-1 non-resident student and selected direct deposit for a refund of $1,214. It has been over 5 weeks, and the status still shows “Return Received.” I have checked the IRS “Where’s My Refund” tool, which confirms the refund has not been processed. Please advise if any action is needed on my part to ensure the refund is sent.

If eligible you will find the $12,000 bonus deduction for seniors on Schedule 1-A Part V and line 13b of your form 1040. TurboTax will automatically calculate it based on your date of birth and your income.  There is not a special section or box to check.  Just enter your correct information and TurboTax will take it from there.     For Tax Year 2025 through 2028, seniors may claim an additional deduction of $6,000 per taxpayer over 65.  This is NOT a refundable credit.  This is a deduction of your income.  If your income is above $75,000 ($150,000 if Married filing jointly) the bonus deduction decreases by $.06 for every dollar over the relevant amount.  This deduction is available whether you itemize or take the standard deduction. If your filing status is married filing separately you are not eligible for this deduction. This bonus deduction is ONLY for those who were 65 or older as of December 31, 2025, it does not apply to those who are blind and under 65   The $3,200 would be added to your standard deduction on line 12e of your form 1040 if you both qualify. I am assuming you are married filing jointly since you said $12,000, so on line 12e, you would see $34,700 instead of $31,500. Again, there is nothing you need to do, to get the extra $3,200, TurboTax will calculate it based on your age on the last day of the tax year.

If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction.  If you are Single and your AGI is over $150,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.   If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.   Standard deductions for 2025 Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older   New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers. The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b Look at your Form 1040 - You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
Likely a corporate decision, perhaps due to too much overhead to maintain.  H&R Block also dropped that IRS program.

Deductible contributions to a 529 plan are reported on your state tax return.  It is not a deduction for your Federal return.     When going through a state return, it is sometimes tricky to find the place to enter your 529 contributions.  You will often find it in the Income section of the state return under an Education heading on the page that says Here is the income that XX state treats differently.   If you cannot locate the right place to enter your contributions, come back here and share the state you are filing.  Someone will be able to guide you to the exact place to enter your contributions.
