You cannot use "refund procession" for an amended return.    If entering a 1095A caused you to upgrade to Deluxe, you will need to pay your fees using a credit or debit card.

You are not the only one with this issue, I just finished speaking to the IRS and they also noted that our SS Taxable income was wrong, it was at 0. When I looked at out 23 and 24 returns they each had an amount. So Turbo Tax figures it out for you since this information is not on the SS 1099. This caused a big difference in our return. Turbo Tax needs to figure out why the system was not calculating the correct amount.

There isn't  a specific button labeled "Line 24z," so you have to manually enter an adjustment as you proceed  through the Miscellaneous Income section.   Reporting this "income" will require entering information into two (2) sections of the program.   First...   Enter the 1099-MISC (Lawsuit Settlement) Income: Open or continue your return. Under Federal tab, Click on Wages & Income. Scroll down to "Other Common Income", and Click on 1099-MISC. Enter your 1099-Misc as is (Payer name, EIN, and the amount in Box 3). When asked the "reason" for the money, Enter something like "Lawsuit Settlement for Property Damage." When asked "if it was similar to a main job or if you intended to make money", Select "No." Second...   Enter Line 24z Adjustment: Open or continue your return. Under the Wages & Income section (Federal tab), Scroll down Less Common Income and Click on Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C. Click on Other reportable income. When asked "if you have other taxable income", Select "Yes". Enter the description "Form 1099-MISC Offset - Return of Capital for Property Damage." Enter the damage amount as a negative number (e.g., -10,000). By entering the negative amount, the program will "cancel out" the two figures (on your Schedule 1).   The positive 1099-MISC amount will appear on Line 8z.   The negative adjustment will appear on Line 24z (Other Adjustments to Income).   Note: You can only offset the settlement up to your adjusted basis in the property (usually what you paid for it plus improvements). Since the settlement was for less than the damages, you won't pay tax on the principal, but any portion of the settlement labeled as "Interest" is taxable.
I am using the 2025 Premier version on my desktop.  When I go to the 1040 form, I can not add the THIRD PARTY DESIGNEE.  The program will not allow changing the block.
Why don't I have an option in turbo tax to use my refund to pay for deluxe?

You cannot report a rental on your 2025 tax return if the property wasn't "Placed in Service" until 2026.   According to the IRS, a rental property is only "Placed in Service" when it is ready and available to be rented. Because you were doing improvements and are not renting it until 2026, the IRS considers your 2025 activity to be "pre-opening" or "startup" activity, which isn't reported on a 2025 Schedule E.   Since you can't start the rental section yet, here is what you do with those 2025 costs: You do not deduct these in 2025. Instead, keep all receipts and add them to the Cost Basis of the house. When you finally set up the rental in TurboTax on your 2026 return, you will enter the purchase price plus all these 2025 improvements as your total starting value for depreciation.  Costs like travel to the property or background check fees are also considered "Startup Costs". You save these and report them on your 2026 return. The IRS allows you to deduct up to $5,000 of these in the first year the rental actually opens. For the Mortgage Interest/Taxes -  while the house is being renovated and not yet a rental, you generally treat it as a second home. You may be able to deduct the mortgage interest and property taxes as Itemized Deductions on Schedule A for 2025, provided you meet the standard deduction threshold.

If I took out her Bday on the previous page, the student box would appear.   I would then check it and it would be fine after re -entering her bday.   If I put in her birthday first, the box would not appear.   Tried it several times and it was very consistent.  Must be a software glitch.   So, serendipitously solved.

MY RETURN IS UNDER REVIEW The IRS is getting more and more vigilant to prevent identity theft and fraud.   People who file very early in the season are sometimes scrutinized more.  Do not take it personally.   TurboTax does not get any information from the IRS after they accept your return, so no one at TT knows that your refund is delayed or why.  All you can do is wait for the IRS to finish processing your return.  Watch the refund site.  If the IRS wants more information from you they will request it. If they want you to verify your identity, you must follow the IRS’s instructions in order to do that.   In many cases they will send you a letter—and you will have to wait for that letter.
Why is my turbotax premier update install taking forever? This hasn't happened before and very annoying

Did you already e-file?  If you did NOT e-file you can go to the FILE section  step 2 to enter/change how you want to receive your refund.  If you want direct deposit you need the routing number and your own account number.    If you e-filed: Banking information for direct deposit is wrong or closed If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.     https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/news/tax-tips/direct-deposit-changes-for-2026-could-affect-how-and-when-you-get-your-refund/2026/01/   You may get this notice— a cp53a notice   https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-cp53a-notice   If you take NO action—-the IRS will freeze your refund for at least six weeks and then mail you a check.   If your refund is sent back to the IRS—- make certain that the address you entered on your Form 1040 is correct.  And…open all mail, even if it looks like junk mail.   And……if you choose “refund processing” or the “5 day early” offer, those involve a third party bank; sadly, you will have a lot of additional aggravation in tracking down your refund and getting a check.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

The "# of W2" column on the PA-40 Gross Compensation Worksheet numbers the W2s that you have on your PA tax return.    An error can occur when the number of W2s on your PA return is more than the number of Federal W2s.   It could be that you have a blank W2 in your Federal return entry that is carrying over to your PA return. If so, delete it and see if that gets rid of the error.   You can get to the W2 entry in TurboTax Desktop here: Personal Income>Wages and Salaries   If you continue to see the error after going through the steps above, you can try clearing cache and deleting cookies.
