Is TurboTax planning to add the capability of reporting gambling activity using the Session Method of tracking/reporting wins and losses? I can't imagine I am the only tax-payer in the United States who files with TurboTax and elects to use the Session Method for reporting gambling activity?   Is there a way to create a product enhancement request to vote on? @support

I can now see the form 5695, however I believe that your software is not working properly. When I tried the guided data input and answer the questions it does not check the boxes to make me quality for the $1,200 credit.    If I manually fill out form 5695, (and check the yes boxes) it shows I should get $1,200 credit, however when I save it it then checks all the "no" boxes" disqualifying me for the credit.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2025 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.   If your dependent was a full-time college student, make sure you were careful on the MY INFO screen for “Uncommon situations” and that you indicated there that they were a student.

This is a TurboTax error. I am helping my father file his taxes, which I have been doing through TurboTax for many years. He has always qualified for this credit. Nothing changed with his income. I read the tax law already. It is not complicated. There was an option to claim this last year and it's completely missing this year. I wonder how many seniors have been shorted on this credit because they used TurboTax this year. I have tried to report this numerous different ways and your response is the only one I've received. Are you going to do anything to fix this error?

No, you cannot upload or transfer a .tt24 file once you have already started and entered data into a 2025 return. TurboTax is designed to "roll over" information from the previous year at the very beginning of the process. If you have already bypassed that step and started typing in your 2025 info, the software generally won't let you "merge" the two files later.   You don't necessarily have to "clear" everything, but you will need to start a new tax return file. Go to the top menu and select File > New Tax Return. The "Welcome" screen will appear. Click "Begin." It should automatically search for your .tt24 file. If it doesn't find it, click "Browse" to locate it manually.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

It is impossible to guarantee that a tax return will not be audited by the IRS.   The IRS audits approximately 4 out of 1000 returns per year, according to recent data.  While that is a low rate, there is never any guarantee that the IRS will not audit a tax return regardless of the taxpayer situation as some returns are drawn randomly for audit.   As you mentioned, there isn't anywhere to indicate the $3000 catch-up contribution on the tax return as the IRS has no reporting requirements for this.  As such, you can feel confident that your return is conforming to the tax law in this regard.   Most IRS audits involve sending a letter where they may require more information.  In your case, the extra $3000 of contributions does conform to the tax law.  This link from the IRS has good information on the 403(b) catch-up contributions:  IRS 403(b) catch-up contributions.

DID YOU E-FILE?   Did you e-file?   Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”     When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted  or rejected your federal e-file.  If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.   Check your e-file status:   https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/    What does it say in your account?  Does it show that the return was accepted?   Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”

Hi. Thanks for the answer.  No, we have never made any nondeductible Traditional IRA contributions.  I only need to fill out the 8606 because we had Roth IRA distributions for the first time last year.  Part III of 8606 is filled out correctly.  I have answered all of the  1099-R questions correctly. No traditional IRA info at all. I had someone from Turbo Tax watch me online yesterday and he couldn’t figure it out either.  He transferred me to a supervisor and the call was disconnected.  I’ve been on hold twice for over an hour and fifteen minutes (total) and cannot get an answer to why it is populating a cost basis here from zero information.  I’ve read the form 8606 instructions many times.  Line 1 is not filled out on the form. Line 2 should be $0. Instead it is $950. Interestingly, the $950 on line 2 does not show up anywhere on my tax return.  Just on the worksheet.  But I don’t want to file the worksheet with line 2 incorrect.

This article will help you download any data you had in ItsDeductible (if used previously or during the year before it was shut down in October).   There will be a new tool that will help calculate the Fair Market Value (FMV) of the donated items. However, no information on when it is going to be available yet.

Do you have a 1099S?   SALE OF HOUSE   If your gain was more than  $250,000 filing Single, or more than $500,000 filing Married Filing Jointly the sale must be reported on your tax return.  Whether you re-invested the gain in to another house is irrelevant.  If you  have a Form 1099-S go to Federal>Wages and Income>Less Common Income>Sale of Home (gain or loss) If you owned and lived in the home as your primary residence for at least 2 of the last 5 years on the date of the sale, you do not have to report the home sale if the gain is less than $250K filing Single, or less than $500K filing Married Filing Jointly (and you both owned and lived in the home for at least 2 years).   If you are using online TT, you need Premium software to report the 1099-S   TO ENTER THE SALE OF YOUR PRIMARY HOME Start with Federal  Click on Wages and Income  Select Choose what I work on Scroll down to Less Common Income On Sale of Home (gain or loss),  Click the start or update button   NOTE:   If you have ever used the home as rental property or claimed a home office, you have more information to enter

Yes, computer equipment is an accepted business expense that you can report under whatever category makes sense to you. However, if you spent over $2,500 on one item, you would need to enter this as an asset for depreciation.   For more info, see: Where do I enter my self-employment business expenses?

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2025 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.   If your dependent was a full-time college student, make sure you were careful on the MY INFO screen for “Uncommon situations” and that you indicated there that they were a student.   MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages from boxes 2 or 17 (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!) If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.     You might also want to use free software from the IRS Free File versions: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

TurboTax gets no information from the IRS after you file your tax return.  Only the IRS is in control and only the IRS can tell you when you will get your refund.   If they want additional information from you they will mail you a letter which you should respond to promptly.   Or you might not get a letter at all, and will just have to wait for the IRS.   You can watch for information on the IRS refund site.   Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds
