Thank you for trying to help. I'm looking at what shows on the screen. Have not been able to get any forms yet since I have not paid. After entering all the Deductions and Credits, it show that itemizing deductions is right for me, show the total of Itemized deductions versus Standard, and when I click on Show me the estimated breakdown, it first number is State And Local Income/Sales Taxes.  Property tax (Real Estate Taxes) shows separately and correctly. I don't have any other property taxes. No tax on vehicle registration was entered (don't qualify - I'm in Oregon). I did not carry over a 2023 refund to 2024. No sales tax in Oregon I did find $82 on my W-2 that was paid for Oregon transit tax, so it must be including that. The difference is still $35, which is the small local tax amount paid to the city, but I've already included that in my total, so it seems it must be counting that twice?   Very frustrating that there is nowhere to see what items & amounts make up the number listed for State And Local Income/Sales Taxes.  Any other ideas? Is there somewhere to see the breakdown of the State And Local Income/Sales Taxes besides going back into each section to try to determine what is going into that total?

1. It depends: Sch C is to report business income and pay self-employment tax. When you are not actively working the business, you do not use the Sch C. Being inactive one year, pauses the depreciation. It will pick back up when you are active again.  Many people have sporadic income for a variety of reasons.  If you are actively working but not enough to get a 1099-NEC, then you would continue to use the Sch C to report the income and expenses.   2. Expenses are claimed when you file Sch C along with depreciation-  Publication 946, How to Depreciate Property states: To be depreciable, the property must meet all the following requirements.  • It must be property you own.  • It must be used in your business or income-producing activity.  • It must have a determinable useful life.  • It must be expected to last more than 1 year.   3. Leave out Sch C when not actively working. If you are actively working, file a Sch C. Many people have a large Sch C and never get a 1099. It depends on the type of work you do. 4. Expenses that make your Sch C negative are a concern because your business must have positive income 3 out of 5 years for most businesses in order to be considered a business. Otherwise, the IRS may reclassify the business as a hobby and disallow all expenses and depreciation.   5. Example: Ben digs trenches for 10 years, filing a Sch C  claiming his equipment and expenses. Ben is seriously injured and unable to work for 2 years. No sch C is filed, no expenses are taken. Ben is finally able to work a little bit helping out friends, in his line of work and makes a little money from several people but no 1099 is issued. This is his line of work and he will file the Sch C and resume depreciating his equipment and claiming expenses. Ben can show that this is how he pays the bills and he is trying to make the business work again. It is not a hobby. See: Help to decide between a hobby or business   Reference: Self-employed individuals tax center  has information to help a business grow, claim deductions, everything you could need to know on the tax side and we are here to help!

AND... calling TurboTax customer service currently has me absolutely infuriated.  I just waited 30 minutes on the line to speak to someone, and after explaining the situation the customer service rep said he was going to put me on hold to look into that... AND HE HUNG UP ON ME... despite confirming my phone number before this...presumably so he can reach me if we get disconnected.  And does he call me back after "accidentally" hanging up on me?  NOoooooo...  and trying to get help in this forum apparently only goes so far.  So I'll be sitting on the phone for another half hour to hopefully reach a customer service rep who actually wants to do their job... and not hang up on me.     Clearly it's not an easy answer/solution... but submitting multiple messages here, calling 2 days ago and having my situation documented and being told I'd receive an email in 24-48 hours with "what I should do next and what was done to correct this", and not receiving that email, so I call there to follow up... and I'm hung up on when the guy said he would put me on hold to look into it... literally said "let me go ahead and do that"... and CLICK... disconnected.   If there's anything you can do to look into this with TurboTax in terms of if they are actually looking into FIXING this programming issue, it would be greatly appreciated.  Please advise.  Thanks.

Do I need to enter this in the income area of Turbo Tax if the distribution was all used for qualified college expenses? When I do enter it my tax due goes up dramatically as though I am paying taxes on the gains. My understanding is that there is no tax due in my circumstances, hence I intend not to enter the 1099-Q in Turbo Tax and just keep for my records

Hi, My review says that  Box 14a cannot be more than my gross distribution for all of my four retirement accounts.  All four of them say that and I cannot file my taxes.. For example for my TIAA 403 B account, my gross distribution is 6,000.00 and my box 14a is 600.00.   There is no problem so why does turbo tax do this??? It happens with all my 403B rollovers.

I believe it can be done, as i did see the option but I have not done it as yet.  After review of your return it will show were the errors are.  You then see an option to continue or run error check again.  If you select continue, it will efile.  I believe it is the same as printing the form and sending it, you can still print the return even if turbo tax shows error.

@VolvoGirl  Thank you for your reply. Yes, I downloaded and activated 2025 TurboTax Deluxe on my Mac.   Yes, my installed 2025 TurboTax Deluxe shows a $10 credit balance that can be used for Add-Ons. I was trying to purchase eFiling prior to actual filing, which I recollect I was able to do in each of the past two years. You seem to be telling me that I can NOT purchase state eFiling until I'm in the process of doing so. Am I understanding correctly?   Is there no way to make the purchase in February and avoid the price increase that I understand is coming in March? - nello
It keeps asking me when I moved and I haven’t moved I’m still a resident of the state
