Thanks for posting your experience.  Since I am working with desktop versions I was able to go directly to form and modify worksheet to change 17a, b and c and provide property address.  However, the return was still rejected.     Any idea if I am missing anything from your suggestion?
There is no federal credit like that, so you must be asking about a state credit.  We do not know what state you are in, but if your state has such a credit it will be in the state software.

If you don't have a Tax Home tab, and if you don't have a section "Your Tax Returns & Documents", then it sounds like you have not yet started a 2025 return in that account.  Here's some more info:   This answer assumes your previous returns were prepared in Online TurboTax.   Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account.  Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary.  Many people end up with more than 1 account.  The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2025 return.  I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation.   If you have not yet started a 2025 online return: Sign in to your account.   What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2025 return in that account.   If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2025 return in that account.  If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions.  Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column.  Do not click the Documents tab.  Instead, click on Tax Home.  Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents".  Expand that section and choose the past year you want.   If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.  I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot.   If you have already started a 2025 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2025 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home.  If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu.  Do not use the Documents tab.  At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."   If the past returns are not there, see the steps below.   If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.   To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:          Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.

The relative caregiver stipends is generally not taxable so let's look at the 1099-MISC. The payments are really reimbursements for food, shelter, clothing, certainly not wages. Your worker is confusing tax terms. Income for eligibility (like food stamps or Medicaid) vs taxable income on your tax return. While it may not be taxable, it can count as income to help qualify for tax credits. Follow these steps to get the 1099-MISC on your return and not taxable: Open to the federal income edit your 1099-MISC values are entered, continue reason for 1099, DCS relative caregiver stipend continue Any uncommon situations? Select this is a Medicaid wavier payment If your program asks: involve work like main job? No What years? only 2025 Best wishes, you are doing great!

TT has allocated $10,0000 of expenses to the tuition credit.  In the past, TT provided a screen  titled  “education expenses used for a tax credit”. It was usually  prepopulated (often with $10K instead of the more appropriate $4K). You could change it for the amount you want to allocate to the ed credit, including changing it to 0. So far, this year, I haven't found that screen, even after this mornings update.   If you don't get that screen, you can check the student information worksheet. You can change it there (line 17). Make the change in the first column, on the left.

I am concerned that TurboTax 2025 Premier is incorrect in regards to applying Investment Advisor Fees and Tax Preparation Fees to California tax returns. My investment advisor researched CA SB 711 and found that this bill updates California’s "specified date" of conformity to the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) from January 1, 2015, to January 1, 2025 which means these deductions are no longer allowed in California starting with 2025 taxes. So TurboTax applying these deductions to my CA tax return, seems incorrect.   Before SB 711: California followed 2015 federal rules, which allowed "miscellaneous itemized deductions" (including advisor fees) to the extent they exceeded 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). After SB 711: By advancing the date to 2025, California has effectively adopted the federal suspension of these miscellaneous itemized deductions. Effective Date: This change applies to taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2025.

Thank you, Dmertz, for the quick and detailed response!   The information you provided helps me understand several key issues better.  I am, however, struggling a bit to apply that new knowledge to specific action steps in TurboTax.    I have begun the process of amending the 2024 return, and I have gone through the process of entering the 1099-R adjustments as you suggested, using the 1099-Rs for 2025 and have changed the distribution codes from 8 to J and P.  So far TurboTax shows the $960 penalties gone and coming back as a refund, and the Form 5329 now shows $0 penalty in Section 4, but the Form 5329 still shows a 2023 excess (which was not the case), a $0 excess for 2024 (which should be the case), and a carry forward of Roth contribution credits for 2025.  I feel like I must still have a wrong code somewhere but I've worked through the amendment several times and can't seem to clear that contribution credit for 2025.  To me, that makes it appear that somehow I still show in TurboTax that I didn't remove the excess in 2025, although I am certain we did.      I appreciate your time and expertise, and would welcome any additional guidance or suggestions.  Thanks!

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.    Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.    If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on March 4.  The date is subject to change, so check on 3-4 to see if it is ready.   Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.

This helps somewhat. I had decided to start with a fresh return file and redownloaded TT for Mac also. I got down the road back to the step by step to foreign taxes paid. As I went through the questions all was normal, but it never asked me the questions for foreign income as it should. Then the amount of the foreign tax credit showed by was less than half of what was on the 1099Div's. I have not gone to forms view yet to figure this out yet as I am MFJ and are less than the $600 safe harbor.   Why would TT not ask the standard questions about country in the step by step view? I am still convinced that the TT for Mac version is not programmed correctly as many years of using the Win version never resulted in such issues.
