No, college is considered a temporary absence so you do not change state domicile (or residence) just because you go to college in another state.     Illinois and Wisconsin have a reciprocal tax agreement that allows residents of one state working in the other to pay income taxes only to their state of residence. Employees must file an exemption form with their employer (IL-W-5-NR) to stop withholding taxes for the state they work.      If you had Illinois withholding, you will have to file a nonresident Illinois return and report zeo Illinois income to get a refund of your state tax withholding.  You can then file your resident Wisconsin return and report/pay tax on the income.

On line 4a I entered total amount of withdrawals, then line 4B gave me the opportunity to enter the taxable amount (i.e. less QCDs).  Somewhere in the Q and A it gave me the opportunity to click on 'part of the withdrawal went to a charity' or similar verbiage.  Hope that helps.

This is really only happening because you have disallowable allowances, click on those transactions and fix them, this should clear up the loop.

Yes, it's quite normal to receive the federal refund before a start refund. It can happen in reverse however it's been my experience the states are not always as quick to release as the federal.    The federal refund is usually delayed if special child credits are included in the return such as earned income credit (EIC) or additional child tax credit (ACTC).    @verdugolarissa56

You could have moved your Online return to the Desktop program to continue without paying for Online.   You didn’t need to lose it.  What do you mean the Online version was duplicative?   Did you start the Online return by transferring 2024 from your computer?   Did you try posting any questions about it here in the forum?

The South Carolina (SC) filing requirement for nonresidents is as follows: SC FAQs --If you are a nonresident or part-year resident, you are generally required to file a South Carolina return if you work in South Carolina or are receiving income from rental property, businesses, or other investments in South Carolina.  Also see 'How to File'. They do require filing whether or not a federal return is filed.   @soccerdad1

Yes, you will need the total amount of Roth contributions.  Roth distributions are allocated as return of contribution first, then earnings.  You can find this information on your Form 4598s for each tax year you contributed (in Box 10) or you may be able to contact your IRA custodian.

It says my 1099 B was successfully downloaded and when you go to import, it erases old data and never inputs the new data.  Hey Turbotax, fix the download feature as never had this issue before with your product.  Entering manually would certainly decrease any benefit of using turbotax.  When I follow your prompts, It says it "Success! We got your tax data. You can now return to TurboTax."  Then when you go back to TT it shows the doc ready for import.  When you hit the import now button supplied a pop up appears that states remove (old data) and import or cancel.  When you press import it indicates working and goes back to the income screen and DOES NOT have the data imported for the 1099-B.     Any help would appreciated.

I choose to accrue Compensatory Time in Lieu of Overtime. I have been researching how this applies with the new No Tax on Overtime Deduction but it seems the answers vary. Can you clarify if I calculate the total Compensatory Time earned or used during 2025?    Additionally I asked my employer for a statement including calculation and they responded it was on me to figure it out.   Thank you!

I agree. This is the first year, I've tried online. It was so confusing and duplicative that I went back to desktop and lost everything I had entered in online. If I'd known I'd have moved away from TurboTax. If there this inept in how online and desktop can be synced, how can I trust them to do my taxes correctly?
