Seems to be a relatively common error, but my return was rejected due to my EIN mismatch, but the numbers do match.  Mine has been the same for 9 years and my wife's the same for 30.  Nothing has changed, but it says they don't match their records.  Is there a way I can request written statement showing what the ein they have for us is?  I would enter the same info paper filing, so wouldn't it just get rejected again?  All I've seen is to delete the w2 and re enter, and or paper file...which would take so much longer with no guarantee of success.  Sigh...any new advice or is this a known bug?  Anybody actually figure out what the issue is?
If you do not have any W-2's you can skip that section.

The 1099-Q is  only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your (or your student's) tax return. The interview is complicated and it's easy to make mistakes. Avoid it if you can and you probably can.  You can just not report the 1099-Q, at all, if your student-beneficiary has sufficient educational expenses, including room & board (even if he lives at home) to cover the distribution. When the box 1 amount on form 1099-Q is fully covered by expenses, TurboTax will enter nothing about the 1099-Q on the actual tax forms. But, it will prepare a 1099-Q worksheet for your records (you don’t need it). You would still have to do the math to see if there were enough expenses left over for you to claim the tuition credit. You also cannot count expenses that were paid by tax free scholarships. References: On form 1099-Q, instructions to the recipient reads: "Nontaxable distributions from CESAs and QTPs are not required to be reported on your income tax return. You must determine the taxability of any distribution."  IRS Pub 970 states: “Generally, distributions are tax free if they aren't more than the beneficiary's AQEE for the year. Don't report tax-free distributions (including qualifying rollovers) on your tax return”. "IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education states: If the entire 1099-Q went to qualified expenses, room and board, tuition, etc; then, you do not need to enter the form."  Otherwise, In TurboTax (TT), enter at: Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version) Deductions & Credits -Scroll down to: --Education   --ESA and 529 Qualified Tuition Programs (1099-Q)

I completed my Federal and Illinois tax returns for 2025.  All of a sudden those completed tax returns completely disappeared and I could no longer find them on my computer.  This disappearance happened after saving both tax returns many, many, many, many times.  I had to recreate my tax returns from scratch spending a great deal of time to do that recreation.  A friend of mine had the exact same thing happen to him.  This is not how a product like this should function.   S. Can you clarify what the issue is?
Thanks!

I filed using Turbotax last year (and years prior) and this year it got rejected by the IRS because it didn't match what they have. I have triple confirmed (e.g., pulled up last years Turbotax and looked at the actual Form) and the number is correct. I even noticed that when I filed last year, it didn't have the "00" after the decimal point, so I tried it both ways: (XXX.00) and (XXX.) - no difference.  Any suggestions?

Did NOT get a satisfactory answer. Replying to a question with a question is not an answer.  Totally dis-satisfied with Turbo.  I have been a customer for many years.  You have lost me. Your community help is useless.  Leticia1 was useless.  I filed my taxes with 1040.com and breezed right through.  No traps, no loops, no useless help. Accepted by IRS in 15 minutes.  Total time less than an hour.  Tried to advance out of the problem when working with Turbo, couldn't without paying.  After 8 hours of frustration, I quit trying.  Totally DIS-SATISFIED!
