You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.    Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.    If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on March 4.  The date is subject to change, so check on 3-4 to see if it is ready.   Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.

The fact is the Illinois (IL) return is taxing you on less income because even as a nonresident you are entitled to an exemption allowance. In that regard, Indiana (IN) is not going to give you a credit for taxes paid to IL for any amount of income that is not taxed by IL.  The fact IN doesn't provide the same exemption allowance provides no difference in calculations.    The credit is the lesser of what was actually paid or the tax the resident state would have charged on the same amount of income. IN Schedule 6 is doing the correct calculations.   From the instructions, on the page you cited: If you were an Indiana resident during the tax year and had income from any of the states listed in Group A below, you should first find out what the other state’s rules are concerning the taxation of your income.   @Mikes20222022
Let me try this and get back with you....

Thanks.   It means TurboTax is not able to e-file in the case of anyone who is married and qualified to file as HoH without providing the spouse's details despite that the spouse has nothing to do with the return. This matches the conclusion described in my original post. Can other users in this community recommend any other software tools that can deal with such a situation ?     "write Nonresident Alien (or the abbreviation “NRA”) in the space for your spouse’s Social Security number" I am not sure if the above is correct.   @Opus 17 I thought "NRA" was supposed to go on the blank space next to "If you checked the MFS box, enter the name of your spouse."  Any thoughts ? Thanks.
Do you have an amount in box 16 for state distribution?  If not then enter the amount from box 1 in box 16.

Yes, you can deduct subscriptions (software, apps, publications) used for your Schedule C business if they are "ordinary and necessary" for your operations.    In TurboTax, enter these under Business Expenses > Other Common Business Expenses > Other Miscellaneous Expenses. For hybrid (personal/business) use, only deduct the business percentage.   Under current law, Employee Business Expenses are no longer deductible, with rare exceptions.   See this tax tips article for more information about reporting self- employed business deductions.   @Cmclemore95

I finally was able to get this resolved.    I reran the repair on the C++ app, shut off wifi, turned off all anit-virus, connected wifi via my iphone (which has defender running on it, opened TT in admin mode.  It did its search for updates, requested the license number and then fully opened.  This makes me think there is something in my antivirus on my pc that is blocking access.  To check that, I tuned antivirus back on, changed wifi back to my internet provider, and reopened TT is normal (vs admin) mode and while it was slow, it reopened, so I think I am finally ready to get my taxes done.  Thank you for all of the above suggestions which gave me hope that this could be resolved vs having to make the fated call to Intuit.

TurboTax does not update because TT receives no information from the IRS after you file your tax return.   Your source of information is the IRS refund site.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

That number flows from Form 8995 or 8995-A,Form 8995, Qualified Business Income Deduction Simplified Computation. The pass-through deduction lets partners or shareholders in a pass-through business deduct up to 20% of their share of qualified business income from their income. and it reduces your taxable income.   Are you sure that you need to remove it?

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities,  There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.  Some states process returns quickly and some are very slow.   STATE RETURN Make sure your state return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   To track your state refund:       ttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0

This is a new one because I've entered other 1099-Q information before. I think Intuit broke the software. Last I checked, 408.88 + 299.04 = 707.92
