It should let you select but since it isn't, we need to go behind the scene. Since you have Mac desktop, you have Forms mode.  Look for the education summary or student info wks and see if you can check the box for optimizer or can make a credit selection. You may be able to override a red or yellow box (right click and select override from the edit menu at the top of your screen).  If you need to override a value, go back through step by step to see if the program will hold the new value. Then come back and cancel the override.

I have been reimbursed for Medicare B premium expenses that were deducted from my Social Security check.  On the SSA-1099SM these Medicare B Premiums get entered into TT when entering the 1099 form.  Where do I show that amount as being reimbursed when doing my taxes, or do I have to worry about it since they were reimbursed from the HSA account which isn't taxed?
No, you do not need to report Foreign Taxes paid.

I purchased a Home and Business TurboTax system through Sam's on Feb 2. It will not work on my old computer with Windows 10 and my computer is not upgradable to 11. Sam's says the refund must come from you. So, I need that started, or I understand the online version from TurboTax will work. If I can exchange the Sam's version for that it would be great. I have the following order numbers or EOD numbers. [number removed] and [number removed].
Do I have to report Foreign Tax Paid if it is only $2.9 and I do not want a credit for it?

It depends. You may need to file Form 8938 this year because your total foreign accounts (including your RRSP and other accounts) went over the reporting threshold for US residents.   Single/Married Filing Separately: More than $50,000 on the last day of the year or more than $75,000 at any time. Married Filing Jointly: more than $100,000 on the last day of the year or more than $150,000 at any time. For an RRSP, the income is tax-deferred in the US under the US-Canada treaty. You don't report the internal interest or capital gains on your 1040 until you take a distribution.  The software often "demands" an entry here because it sees a foreign account and assumes this must be taxable income.   To alleviate this assumption, in the Form 8938 section, when it asks for interest/dividends, enter $0. If it asks "Where is this reported on your return?", you can often select "Not reported" or leave the line/form boxes blank. If it still flags an error, some users enter a small note (if the software allows) or just leave it as $0. Since there's no actual distribution, there's no income to report.   Since you haven't contributed in 30 years and haven't taken money out, you don't actually need a specialized tax report from CIBC to file. You do need to keep track of the maximum values of the accounts during the year determined from your monthly statements.  If you have a filing requirement for 8938 based on the parameters given above, you will just need to add this as a custodial account in Part 1 line 5 of the form.  In addition, add this information in Part 1 lines 7 & 8 for information regarding your custodial account. You will need this information when you file your FBAR as well.   [ Edited 02/25/2026 I 8:00am PST]

If you have already submitted your return for e-file, there isn't any way to change the submission.  You will just need to wait to see if the Michigan Department of Treasury has any questions on your tax filing.  They may end up accepting it as is, but they may also contact you to get corrected information.  For now, all you can do is sit tight and wait until your return is processed.

I was on the phone for 2 hours on Friday 2/19/26 with TT representative.  She couldn't fix this and wanted me to pay $60 for a "Tax Expert" but I refused as I stressed repeatedly that this is not a Tax issue but rather a Software Issue that Turbo Tax needs to fix. The Tax Expert came on and the representative confirmed others are having the same issue. She said it would take 24-72 hours to fix.  It is now 4 days and still  not fixed.  AND on Friday after hanging up the phone I immediately got an email from TT telling me my case # is closed.  Stay on this - it needs to be fixed by Turbo Tax.

You will be able to claim your adoption credit on next year's tax return. IRS guidance states that you can claim the expense the year after you incurred or paid them if the adoption is still in progress and not final.  Adoption Credit.   If you pay qualified adoption expenses in any year before the year that your adoption becomes final, you can claim the credit for those expenses on your tax return for the year after the year you paid such expenses. Expenses paid in the year the adoption is finalized or later can be claimed for the tax year your expenses were paid.   There were positive changes made to the Adoption Credit in the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) that increased the federal adoption credit to a maximum of up to $17,280 per eligible child, and up to $5,000 becoming a refundable credit. Prior to 2025, the Adoption Credit was nonrefundable and could only be used to reduce your tax liability.     Click here for Adoption Tax Credit for 2025-2026.   Click here for How do I claim the Adoption Credit in 2025? If you have any additional questions or information, please return to TurboTax Community and we would be glad to help you.

If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction.  If you are Single and your AGI is over $150,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.   If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.   Are you saying there is no calculations on the Schedule 1-A in either Part I or in Part V.
