If you claimed a child on your tax return when you should not have claimed that child, your use of the child's SSN will cause the e-file of the person who CAN claim the child to be rejected if yours was accepted first by the IRS.   Alert them immediately.    They can either file their return by mail instead of e-filing---since mailed returns are not rejected, or they can seek IP PIN's to help them e-file.     GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-takes-steps-to-help-prevent-refund-delays-by-accepting-duplicate-dependent-returns-with-an-ip-pin-for-2025-filing-season-taxpayers-encouraged-to-sign-up-soon-for-ip-pin-online-account     https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin     They do NOT have to wait for you to amend.  Waiting will not help them at all.   Understand that you will face repayment of child-related credits you received for claiming the child.

If the return has already been accepted, you won't be able to make any changes and the bank won't be able to process the direct deposit, so it will return the money to the IRS. The IRS could issue a paper check to the mailing address listed on your return.   To change or add a new bank account information in TurboTax, follow these steps:   Go to your Intuit Account. Select Continue to edit your return. Go to the File box, locate located in the upper right of the screen. My 18 y/o daughter is a full-time student and has a part time job.  She made $4298.60 and her Form 1098-T in box 1 has $8474.03 and box 5 has $9333.00.  She has a Pell Grant and Life Scholarship. We purchased a laptop outside of the school in the amount of $1200.00.   My understanding is that the difference in the boxes is $858.97.  Is the amount of $858.97 considered unearned income and since the laptop purchase is not reflected on this form how do we show the adjustment for the laptop?    I file as head of Household and claim her as a dependent on my taxes.  I want to know do with both file? Does she need to file taxes with a single status with the Form 1098-T or does she even need to file the taxes at all?  Or do I file the Form 1098-T?

The series of equal periodic payments (SEPP) is addressed in TurboTax. If you enter a Form 1099-R with a code of "1" in box 7, indicating an early withdrawal penalty, you will be asked later if you get periodic payments from the retirement plan on the screen that says Annuity Information. Later, on the screen that says These Situations may Lower Your Tax Bill, one of the options is to enter your distribution amount from Equal Periodic Payments. Entries on those screens will identify your distributions as SEPP and you won't be penalized on the early distributions.

Are you saying that you have reported an incorrect qualified overtime deduction when entering your IRS form W-2 into the software?   If you have reported an incorrect qualified overtime deduction when entering your IRS form W-2 into the software, your next step depends upon the status of your Federal income tax return.   If you have not electronically filed your tax return and your tax return has not been accepted by the IRS, you may return to the W-2 to correct the entry.   In TurboTax Online, follow these steps.   Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal. Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income. Click the down arrow to the right of Wages & Salaries. If you have electronically filed your tax return and your tax return has been accepted by the IRS, you are not able to return to your tax return.  The tax return will have to be amended.   Federal amended tax returns will be available mid-February.  See this TurboTax Help.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

ok so 2 returns.  Online will only let you prepare and file a single return per account - whether you e-file or print it doesn't matter.  That offer to switch from desktop will only be good for 1 return.   For the 2nd return you'd need to set up a second account for TT Online to file that, and pay depending the complexity and forms needed there is the Free version or Deluxe or Premium (under DIY). https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/   You can also try Online out a bit, you should be able to sign on and put in some information and see if you like it, you will just a reach a point where you will need to pay (or use the desktop license) to see the full return and do final edits and review etc.  It will also start to tell you which version you need as you input more stuff and trigger more forms.   If you're planning to get Win 11 anyway because ESU expires in October unless MS extends it, if you have multiple returns and want to just keep the desktop process the same, you may find that an easier approach rather than switching to online and maybe back to desktop in the future; but some don't like the added pressure of upgrading just for taxes.  Turbotax is still pushing out a lot of updates for the 2025 changes so unless you're in a rush to file you have some time - I'm not touching anything til late Feb.   Your other options in the desktop arena are HR Block and TaxAct which are still supporting Win 10 this year.

If you filed a joint return for 2024, the AGI on line 11 of that joint return shows the AGI for both of you.   When it asks for your spouse's AGI, use that same amount.
