I think that JohnB5677 misunderstood the circumstances.  HIs reply applies to Wife's eligibility to deduct a traditional IRA contribution, not to Husband's eligibility, assuming that husband is not an active participant in a workplace retirement plan (including a self-employed retirement plan).   As long as Husband's compensation is less and you file jointly, Husband should be able to make a spousal contribution and at least some of that contribution would be deductible if Husband is not an active participant in a workplace retirement plan and MAGI for this purpose is under $246,000.  Spousal contributions are not permitted if filing separately.

As long as the property is your main home and the solar panels were installed prior to Dec 31st, 2025.    The Residential Clean Energy Credit equals 30% of the costs of new, qualified clean energy property for your home installed anytime from 2022 through December 31, 2025. The credit is not available for any property placed in service after December 31, 2025. You may claim the residential clean energy credit for improvements to your main home, whether you own or rent it. Your main home is generally where you live most of the time. The credit applies to new or existing homes located in the United States.  You can't claim the credit if you're a landlord or other property owner who doesn't live in the home.   The following are helpful links that give more info about the Residential Clean Energy Credit: Residential Clean Energy Credit 2024-2025 Energy Tax Credit: Which Home Improvements Qualify? Where do I enter qualified energy-saving improvements?

Social Security is still being taxed as it was in the past; however, there's a new $6,000 deduction for individuals older than 65 years old.  Also, a $12,000 deduction would apply to couples who qualify.     This deduction is for qualified individuals. Age: You must be 65 or older by the end of the tax year (e.g., born before Jan 2, 1961, for 2025 returns). Income Limits: Your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) must be below certain thresholds (e.g., $175k single, $250k joint for 2025), with deductions phasing out above those levels. Benefit: Up to $6,000 (single) or $12,000 (joint) Additional standard deduction to reduce taxable income.  Deduction phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 ($150,000 for joint filers). The full taxable amount is included in your gross income on Form 1040; however, the Senior Deduction is reflected on line 13b.  It is reflected on Schedule 1A, Part V, Line 37  For more information, see Deductions for Seniors.

I got a reply from the Turbotax facebook page and posted it on my thread, reposting here as well: You're Welcome! As we're committed on assisting you through this. Can you navigate directly to the Federal section, select Deductions and Credits and scroll until you see the section Earned Income credit and go through the questions again to ensure you have not indicated that you or your spouse lives outside the U.S. Please let us know if you find any area filled out indicating you or your spouse lives outside the U.S - Tyaisha I didn't qualify for the earned income credit (EIC), so what I had to do is:   Modify my income section to allow the EIC questions to proceed Answer the question about living in the US for 6+ months in the EIC section Check the box that says I don't want to claim the EIC (since I didn't qualify to begin with) Correct my income back to it's original values After taking these steps, I can now see the box checked on form 1040. I'll be thoroughly reviewing all forms again for accuracy, and recommend anyone that takes these steps do the same. YMMV.   It would be nice if Turbotax included that question up front in the personal info section instead of having to take this workaround.
Never got an approved or denied email. my taxes was accepted but that’s all

Please clarify   When you are typing your name in the signature section, is it giving you an error? The software is very picky with the signature section. The trick is to type your name exactly as it's shown above the signature section, including the middle initials and capitalization.    Check how your name is spelled above the signature section. Make sure you capitalize any letter as shown above, and include or remove any middle initials to match your name exactly as it appears.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things and then start over at the beginning of the File section.   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
I'm being hit with self-employment taxes because these expenses are NOT offsetting business income but rather are showing up as other adjustments to total income. Is that correct?
