Thanks to all who've responded.  For 2025, I'll do the Roth conversion without withholding and make up the taxes from another account.  This way I maximize my Roth balance.  I'll then deal with the 2210.  For future years, I'll be making more frequent conversions and paying some as I go.  Sincerely appreciate everyone's thoughts.

@user17654664434 If you are not sure if tax returns were filed, first you need to check---you can check your online account with the IRS and you can check to see if the IRS has transcripts of returns filed.   https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account   https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript   You say that you are now 23, but do not mention what specific tax years are at issue.  What tax year was that "first" year that you filed your own tax return?      It seems odd that you are unsure whether your tax returns were filed.   When the "friend" supposedly did your tax returns did you provide them with your W-2's or 1099's?   Did they not give you a copy of the tax return after preparing it?   What happened with your refund(s)?   Did you receive tax refunds---or did the friend mention to you that you owed and needed to pay the IRS or state?   If it turns out that your family friend did not prepare or file your tax returns, you can still prepare them and file them by mail.    If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing past the deadline.   If you owe tax due, however, it will be owed with late filing penalties and interest, for which the IRS will bill you.   Each tax year has to be filed separately using the forms for the specific tax year.  They cannot be combined in any way--do not even put them in the same envelope when you mail them.  Software for past years is available back to 2022.  Any earlier years can only be prepared on paper forms by hand--and those refunds have been forfeited now.   The current online program can only be used for a 2025 return--no other year.  And if you did not file a timely 2024 return you will have trouble e-filing 2025.  When it asks for your 2024 AGI try using zero.  If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2025.     You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Hello, this is gonna be a bit crazy. I really need your help, I am 23 and once I first started doing my taxes, I had filed myself the first year, but after that, I had a friend of my mom's do it for me. I believe years later(now) that the "friend" even did my taxes at all. So, I have to file MULTIPLE years. I really hope I'm not in trouble,  I don't know what to do. I moved to Missouri from Alabama in September on the 29th of 2022.

I think you must have overlooked something in the program.   My understanding is you have to check some box that indicates the return is the final return. Also, you have to somehow in the program allocate capital gains to income and to the beneficiaries and then make a distribution of the entire amount. If you leave anything in the trust (i.e., amounts not distributed), the trust will absorb any tax due.
How did you make this x64 change? thank you.

Are you using the Desktop version of TurboTax? If so, you will need a backup file or data file in the .tt24 format, as a PDF file cannot be uploaded into the software.    If you are using the Online version, please note that you cannot upload any files for the current year. Instead, you can import the previous year's return into the current year by using the same login credentials that your friend used.   To clarify, you cannot directly upload a standard PDF of a completed tax return into your new TurboTax account for automatic data population. A PDF is an end-user document, not a data file.   If obtaining the original data file is not possible, you will need to manually enter the information from the PDF into your current-year TurboTax return. The PDF contains all the necessary figures and information (such as names, addresses, and income from T-Slips) that you can use as a reference.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Assuming your typo meant 2026 (instead of 1016), money you take out of your IRA by the end of 2025---by 12-31-2025 --  must be reported on your 2025 tax return.   If you wait and take money out in January 2026, that distribution will go on your 2026 tax return.   As @VolvoGirl cautioned you, if you wait until the last minute or last few days of the year, it can cause problems with when the financial institution actually sends the money and with what year they put on your 1099R.   If you want to take money out in 2025, do not wait until New Year's Eve.

You are not supposed to send an amended return if the original return has not been fully processed.   If you filed on January 23 that was very early.   Filing so early is not a good idea; some of the returns that are filed so early end up going under review, requiring identity verification or even somehow end up being delayed for very long periods of time.   The IRS will not process an amended return if they have not yet processed your original tax return.    Amending in the hopes of speeding them up does not work.   To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954.   Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst     TAX ADVOCATE See this article for more info on how the Taxpayer Advocate Service works:: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc104.html   https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/
