My employer gives us an option and contributes to HSA if we choose it. However, I live and work in NJ for the company and from my research HSA users do not get the tax withholding benefit in NJ. Is there any way around it? I would love to take advantage of this tax break and my companies contribution to the fund. thank you in advance AG

Do you mean your tax returns? Those are not in the Documents. How to Access prior year online returns https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/27010 If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2024 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2024. I had to go though about 12 screens. If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups. Or request a transcript from the IRS https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript Or get a copy of your return using form 4506 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

What "tax documents" are you trying to access?
TurboTax does not have copies or images of your tax documents like W-2's or 1099's etc. TT only has the information that you entered. It can be found on the various forms and worksheets that are part of the pdf of the tax return.
I NEED A COPY OF MY W-2 (or 1099)
W-2's come from employers. There is not a federal or national website that provides W-2’s.
TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s). Whether you entered your W-2 by keying it in yourself, importing from a payroll site or by snapping a photo using the mobile app—-TT does not have a copy of your W-2. If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.
You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $62).
To get a copy of a W-2 from Social Security https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501
https://www.irs.gov/help-resources/tools-faqs/faqs-for-individuals/frequently-asked-tax-questions-answers/irs-procedures/transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2/transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2
You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS: It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received. It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
Or you can pay the IRS $30 for an actual copy of your tax return which will include copies of your W-2’s
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-forms/get-copy-w-2/L8FTim9MO_US_en_US?uid=m68ee4os
There are over a dozen kinds of 1099's. A 1099NEC is typically issued by an individual or business for whom you performed work as an independent contractor, so seek a copy from them if you did not save yours. Many of the other types of 1099's are issued by banks, brokerages and other financial institutions from which you can seek copies.
Other documents such as 1098's can be sought from the source that issued them; they may be available on the websites of the issuers.

It is not at all clear what all you have done or still need to do. You are not explaining clearly.
When you say you have an extension for "the year before" are you referring to tax year 2023? Did you try to prepare a 2023 return --- did you e-file it or not? "It was not corrected properly"----do you mean it was rejected when you tried to e-file? Did you try to make corrections and e-file it again before the October 2024 filing deadline for 2023 returns? If you did not fix it and e-file, it is too late to e-file it now. E-filing is permanently closed for 2023 and the return will have to be filed by mail.
And what have you done with 2024? You say that you "have a W-2 for 2024," but that "nothing was direct deposited." What happened with your 2024 return? Was the return e-filed and accepted? Or was it rejected?
DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
Check your e-file status:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
What does it say in your account? Does it show that the return was accepted? Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”
Please explain clearly what you did for 2023 and 2024 so that we can help.

@ theda331 wrote: Cannot find old account. `my email and phone have changed. I do not have access to either the old email or phone number t get last year's tax return. To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., instead of the phone or email address you can use the tool at the link below using the "Try Something Else" method I post below. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery Since you can't use your phone number or email address, here's an alternate method: When you arrive at the tool at the link above, leave the data field blank. Instead, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters. Once you are back in your account, here's how to find the 2023 return. The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2024 return. I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation. If you have not yet started a 2024 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2024 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2024 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot. If you have already started or finished a 2024 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2024 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."

I assume you are preparing your 2024 tax return, so the key question is, where did the children live during 2024 (in the home of which parent) and for how long?
You only have the automatic right to claim a child as a dependent if the child lived in your home for more than half the nights of 2024 (183 or more nights). You have to count them. For example, if you separated during 2024 but lived together for 5 months, and then had custody 2 day/week after, then you can count (5 months x 30 days) + (7 months x 8 days) = 206 days. That's more than half, so you can claim the child. Make sure to select "7 months" or longer in Turbotax, because if you pick 6 months Turbotax thinks that is exactly half the year and exactly half is not more than half.
But if you separated in 2023, and only had custody 2 days/week or 104 days, then you are not allowed to claim the child unless you get a signed release form (8332) from the parent who did have physical custody more than half the nights. (The IRS goes by where the child actually lived, not a court order.)
Make sure you answer the questions correctly about residency, and whether you have a signed release if you need one. The child also needs an SSN that is valid for work (there is a checkbox for this). Double-check their SSN and birth date. And make sure you did not accidentally indicate that the child paid more than half their own expenses.

Correct. If your lifetime total of Roth IRA contributions was only $5000, and you previously withdrew $7000, then your remaining contributions are zero.
[Edit: I missed here that you are probably preparing your 2024 tax return. If you did not withdraw anything prior to 2024, then your starting contribution amount for 2024 is $5000. You started 2024 with $5000 of prior contributions, did not make new contributions, and withdrew $7000. But, keep in mind the comments below that you need to combine all your Roth IRA accounts for this question.]
However, you need to combine all your Roth IRA contributions at all your accounts. If you have an account at bank A with $5000 contributions, and an account at bank B with $10,000 of contributions, your current contributions are $15,000. IRA stands for "Individual retirement arrangement", and you only have one arrangement for yourself, even if you have more than one account as part of that arrangement.

When including New Jersey Form SCHEDULE PTE-K-1, for filing personal income tax. Turbo Tax does not allow to e-file. Other tax software allows for this, turbo tax please fix this issue. So no longer get not eligible for e-file, "Returns with Pass-Through Business Alternative Income Tax Credit are not eligible for electronic filing". This has been a least an issue for the 2022,2023,2024 tax seasons. Other tax based software allows for e-file for this situation.

@user17598634558 whereas your statements are correct but I take solace in :
(a) you must recognize all incomes in toto i.e. you have zero choice in this matter.
(b) there is nothing in the code ( despite AI comments ) that says you are required to recognize each and every deduction -- i.e. all deductions are disallowed unless specifically allowed by code. By extension there is nothing that says you must recognize the full quantum of foreign taxes paid. Clearly you cannot recognize more than paid ( perjury jurat ) but nothing prevents you from recognizing less ( perjury is still valid , because you indeed paid that lesser amount, you are just choosing not to recognize the rest). Is the IRS going to chase you for not recognizing all the Foreign Taxes Paid ? That makes no sense --yes ?
Is there more I can do for you ?
