The FTB is the only source that can answer exactly why they change the refund.  It could be due to an offset (such as a debt owed) or a credit they disallowed, or something else.     The FTB is required to send you a letter (usually Notice FTB 5818) explaining why they changed your refund.    If you don't want to wait for the letter, you can contact the FTB. Since tax season is very busy, it is easier to send a message rather than call them. If you don't have one, create a MyFTB account. Once logged in, you can send a secure message. They usually respond within a few business days

I can confirm that opening the previous year's file from the finder worked for me. When I tried the standard way, within Turbotax [home and bus. Mac desktop], I found the file and it loaded into the menu, but when I clicked continue I got the "Bonk" warning sound and nothing happened. After I found this post, I located last years file in the finder, right clicked and chose open with Turbotax 2025, [ it is set to open in 2024 by default ]  It transferred correctly and let me get started.
It was my exhusband that was ordered to pay alimony and child support and it is stated in my divorce decree.

FYI - If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. The Online versions don't have all the same forms so you might have to upgrade to a higher Online version. You can only do 1 return per account. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

I agree completely with you. At least that's what I thought at first.   But both Schwab and Fidelity gave 1099-R forms with box 5 containing both the after tax contribution and the gain on the after tax contribution. I confirmed that by matching the numbers in the 1099-R with the online transfers in the 401k, IRA and Roth IRA accounts.   I'll call them to confirm what was exactly was included in the content of the 3 boxes 1, 2a and 5 on those 1099-R forms.

For most people with typical business and investment, these are the parts of the Schedule K-3 you'll want to use to derive your foreign-source income:     Do not use U.S. amounts, if listed on lines A, B, C.      I've included both the Gross and Net Income sections, because I don't know exactly where you are in the program or which values you need. Can you say more about what specifically the question is asking?    Note: Schedule K-3 reports numerous different types of foreign and investment disclosure situations, many of which are way too complicated for most people to worry about. However, take a look at the face of your K-3 and verify which sections have been checked "Yes" as included. Make sure you are not missing any tax return inputs from these additional reporting sections, if included.      See also: IRS - Partner’s Instructions for Schedule K-3

No, nothing that I know about.  I’m single, and originally from hong kong.  No child to support, education was aboard, before I came here and fully paid. No traffics violations, and taxes last year was correct and accurate.  That is why I was somewhat confused for this year.

I and 3 other family members inherited an IRA from our non-spouse relative who passed in 2024, that year she had already taken her RMD before passing.  We received the funds in 2025.  Of the 4 recipients, 3 of us have received 18% of the IRA.  I took my RMD in 2025, $8,000.  As a New York State resident I am entitled to a portion of the $20,000 exemption my aunt received.  Am I entitled to $5,000 exemption because 4 of us received the IRA or $3,600 as my portion was 18%?  Additionally, when entering this for NY state, am I only editing the "Received retirement income" section with the decendent's information - (date of birth, total IRA and the full exclusion amount of $20,000 then noting my 18%)?  Or is there somewhere else this should be noted?  I didn't see return fluctuate from entering these details.
If you are using the TurboTax online editions, how did you delete the return?  Did you choose to Clear & Start Over?  If so, the tax return is gone and you will have to start over.

1. I have selected to Itemize deductions; the figure on 1040, line 12e, matches the total from Schedule A, line 17, and the box on line 18 is checked (use itemized deductions even if they are less than the standard deduction).   2. If Schedule A, line 5a is '0' (it was blank when I had no sales tax entered, I had to override by typing a '0' in this field), then everything else is fine, including Form 6251, line 2a, which matches my Schedule A total.   3. If Schedule A, line 5a is blank, then Sch A, line 7 is also blank, and then Form 6251, line 2a is changed to my standard deduction, which is much higher than my itemized deductions, and causes my AMT tax to be much, much higher!
