Did my taxes back in April.  I selected the Free version.  When it came time to file, It suggested that I look at the Deluxe version for any additional discounts.  I selected it to see how much I might save.  Nothing else.  I tried to return to the free version but it didn't let me.   The tax refund that I would be getting would not cover this charge.  I selected that it be charged to the refund.   So, I wound up being charged $155 that I can't afford to pay.  I received an email informing me that my refund wouldn't cover the amount and that they would be automatically charge my account on a certain day.  If I wanted to I could extend it a little further.  I selected that and then called them but received no satisfaction.  I've go into my account online and have removed my bank accout information.  Hoping that that will prevent them from deducting it.  I'm on a limited income and cannot afford to pay that amount of money for a service that I was forced to accept.  I'll never use them again.

@scottfox99 wrote: Please elaborate on where exactly the tabs are. I am on the Federal Return and don't see anyting called Other Situations. You didn't state what you are ultimately trying to achieve, so I'll assume you are needing to enter a 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN).   "Other Tax Situations" is not on a main tab.  It is on a subtab (secondary tab.)   When you click on a main tab you should see subtabs underneath it.    "Other Tax Situations" is found under the main Federal tab, except for the desktop edition Home and Business.  In Home and Business it is under the Personal tab (Home and Business does not have a Federal tab.)   In the desktop software the main tabs are arranged horizontally across the top of the screen.  In Online TurboTax, the tabs are arranged vertically in the left menu column and expand to show the subtabs.    If you tell us exactly what product you are using, we can make you a screenshot.    So please state if you are using Online TurboTax (web browser version) or the installed desktop software.    And if desktop software, what edition--Deluxe, Premier, or Home and Business?   Also, if you are using Online TurboTax, are you able to go back to your return interview OK, or does TurboTax think you were finished?    If Online TurboTax thinks you were finished, the interview may be closed, and you won't have a full left-column menu, but we can tell you how to open it back up.

Please elaborate on where exactly the tabs are. I am on the Federal Return and don't see anyting called Other Situations.

@i-love-taxes-as-much-as-product wrote:  TT24 stopped working after update in June'25 cannot view the taxes I filed it is stuck on login screen after I enter sms confirmation code. First of all we need to know what product you are referring to--are you using online TurboTax (browser version) or desktop software?    Since you said "stopped working after update", that makes me think you're using desktop software, or did you mean after an operating system update like Windows or Mac update?    The mention of "login screen" is confusing, however, since that implies Online TurboTax (browser version.)   So please explain further so we have an idea of your issue.   If you're using Online TurboTax and can't log in to your account, we can tell you another method to log in, then you can reset password, 2-factor authentication, etc. in your profile.

Thank you @LenaH ... no problem with the Enterable Form 4797 entries flowing to the 4797, or with the Smart Worksheet flow.    My problem is with printing the Supporting Statements I have entered for the line item figures in the Enterable Form 4797.  For example, for Part III line 21, "Cost or Other Basis Plus Expense of Sale," I created a Supporting Statement for that figure, by clicking on the + sign for the field.  In that SS, I list and the software tallies my original cost, a list of improvements with amounts, plus a list of closing statement expenses of sale.   It is that (and other similar) Supporting Statements for a number of line items which I cannot print or view as part of a print dialog-generated pdf, no matter what I select from the print dialog menu.    I tried selecting a print of the full return with all worksheets and supporting calculations in the print dialog.  Again, the resultant pdf generated by the software does not include or display those Enterable Form 4797 Supporting Statements in the "Additional Information" pages that are at the end of the return.  I use Supporting Statements often, and have never had this problem.

My very simple, probably wrong calculation suggests you could owe $275,000 once interest and penalties are added going back to April 15, 2020.   For that amount of money, hire an expert tax professional to negotiate a settlement.  And don't even file those returns until you have a plan.

Dear Intuit and members, I am using Turbo Tax Premium to prepare my tax return. I received K1s, Form 1065 and they all have small entry numbers less than $200, but with entries more than Line 1 and Line 4 . In prior years, Turbo Tax premium allow you to put in more than 2 entries (Line 1 and line 4). For 2024, Turbo Tax Premium only provides 2 entries (Line1 and 4) . The received statement  states K1 , Form 1065. Please let me know how to enter these small numbers on Line 5,8 , 11 16 and 20 into Turbo Tax premium.  I hope I do not have to waste time and do the tax entries again with Turbo Tax Business.  Thanks , Paul

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I will use it. 1 follow-up question. Your idea is to offset the SA income by adding the same amount of the negative income. Right? For example, annual SA payment is $40K. Assuming the tax in Japan is $10K and the tax in USA is $15K.  Isn't IRS collecting the balance = $5K. I thought this is the reason of I need to use the foreign tax credit = $10K so that IRA can collect the balance. Please advise. I am a novice on tax, and I really appreciate your advice! Have a good weekend.

We need more information.   Did you claim a qualified dependent child?   In the first tax year that your spouse passes away, you can file a joint return.  For the next two years, if you claim a dependent child, you can file as a qualified surviving spouse and you get the same standard deduction as a the amount for a joint return.  If you filed "single" but have a qualified dependent child to claim, wait for your return to be fully processed and then you can amend to change your filing status to QSS.   If you do not have a dependent child, then "single" was the correct filing status. Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk   Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1
