I would check over your return and see if you can see anything wrong especially in the payments section.  Make sure you agree with all the amounts listed.   Like is the difference the same or close to the refund you got last year?  Maybe you put down that you applied last year's refund to this year?  Or you applied part of your refund to next year as an estimated payment.  Or you put down you made a payment with an extension or paid an estimated payment that you didn't make?   Do you get Social Security?   Is there an amount on 1040 line 6b or is it 0? There is a new question this year asking if you lived in a foreign place.  People have been answering it wrong or skipping it.  Go back through the Social Security entries.  And it is for each spouse.  So if you have a low amount on 1040 line 6b you might have answered wrong for 1 person.

Age: Generally, the child must be younger than you and under 19, or under 24 if a full-time student. There is no age limit if the child is permanently and totally disabled. Residence: The qualifying person must live with you for more than half the year, except for temporary absences like school or hospitalization. Support: The qualifying child must not have provided more than half of their own support for the tax year.

Were you a U.S. citizen, a resident alien, or a nonresident alien for the years that you are filing for? If you were a nonresident alien you cannot use TurboTax. You have to file Form 1040-NR, which TurboTax does not support. If you are not a U.S. citizen, see Chapter 1 of IRS Publication 519, U.S. Tax Guide for Aliens, for definitions of resident alien and nonresident alien.

The TurboTax Accurate Calculation Guarantee will reimburse you for penalties and interest that you have to pay because of an error in the TurboTax calculations. But the IRS calls almost any error in a tax return a mathematical error. It's usually not an error in the TurboTax calculations. Usually it's something that was entered incorrectly or omitted. What exactly did the IRS say are the errors in your tax return? Your post doesn't say that you had to pay any penalties or interest. If you did, and you think there was an error in the TurboTax calculations, go to the following link to submit a claim under the Accurate Calculation Guarantee. How do I submit a claim under the TurboTax 100% Accurate Calculation Guarantee or 100% Accurate, Expert Approved Guarantee?

Personal and Business. This is for preparing for 2025. Thanks.

Hi @dmertz, could I ask a slight variation of this same example? In 2021, I stopped working at a company and had accumulated the following accounts:  Roth 401k (post-tax): $10k personal contributions, $3k earnings and no employer match Traditional 401k (pretax): $5k employer matching contributions, $2k earnings, +$1k personal contributions   Keeping money with employer 401k, I converted the traditional portion into Roth401k in 2023. Assume earnings remained at 2k for easy math. So I paid income taxes on $8k in 2023. Now in 2025 I am converting the Roth401k to a RothIRA with amount of $24k: $10k contributions, $8k "rollover/conversion?", $6k earnings.   Here would be my questions: 1. Is the 8k portion from 2023 a conversion? Is it available penalty free in 2028, or was the clock reset in 2025? 2. If I wait until 2030 and try to withdraw $24k, what portions could be withdrawn penalty free? Thank you in advance,

First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/ If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2024 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2024. I had to go though about 12 screens. If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups. Or request a transcript from the IRS https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript Or get a copy of your return using form 4506 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
If TurboTax accepts my return for $2216, and the IRS says I get $0 for mathematical errors. Is this part of TurboTax' 100% calculation guarentee?
