Start a 2024 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

Form 4868. Use the link(s) below to file your extension. The first one has different instructions depending on what platform you are using. An extension gives you until October 15, 2025 to file your taxes instead of the tax deadline of April 15, 2025. You must file an extension by April 15, 2025 to get extra time to file your taxes without a penalty. There's no further extension past October 15, 2025.
An extension does not give you extra time to pay your taxes, which are due on April 15, 2025. Even if you can't pay your taxes by the deadline, file an extension anyway so you can avoid the late-filing penalty.

If you were legally married at the end of 2024 your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately.
Married Filing Jointly is usually better, even if one spouse had little or no income. When you file a joint return, you and your spouse will get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $29,200 (+ $1550 for each spouse 65 or older) for 2024. You are eligible for more credits including education credits, earned income credit, child and dependent care credit, and a larger income limit to receive the child tax credit.
If you choose to file married filing separately, both spouses have to file the same way—either you both itemize or you both use standard deduction. Your tax rate will be higher than on a joint return.
Some of the special rules for filing separately include: you cannot get earned income credit, education credits, adoption credits, or deductions for student loan interest. A higher percent of your Social Security benefits may be taxable. Your limit for SALT (state and local taxes and sales tax) will be only $5000 per spouse. In many cases you will not be able to take the child and dependent care credit. The amount you can contribute to a retirement account will be affected. If you live in a community property state, you will be required to provide additional information regarding your spouse’s income. ( Community property states: AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI)
If you are using online TurboTax to prepare your returns, you will need to prepare two separate returns and pay twice since with online, you get one return per fee.

TurboTax can only import a pdf of last year's tax return. Even then the details aren't all there.
If you have a big 1099-B statement from your brokerage it has to be in a csv format to import into TurboTax and all of the columns have to match TurboTax's format.
Here is the csv format upload instructions for TurboTax.

You enter your Distributions on Schedule K of Form 1120-S. It goes on line 16d in the "Income Affecting Shareholder Basis" section. You can use Forms mode to go directly to that line on your 1120-S. It will then flow to your Form K-1 box 16. You can't balance your Balance Sheet without entering your Distributions.
You need to issue yourself a corrected W-2 if you want to deduct your health insurance. You cannot deduct it on your personal tax return unless it is reported on your Form W-2.

Don't worry about entering the 1099-NEC, keep it in your tax file and instead enter the income directly on your Schedule C.
Where do I enter Schedule C?
