You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.         You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.    https://myturbotax.intuit.com/   Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/27010     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/save-2021-turbotax-online-return-pdf/L8dHfRkpT_US_en_US?uid=m5y4ch1y   Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/many-intuit-accounts-turbotax/L9aVfKS1Z_US_en_US?uid=ll5g6zcx Account Recovery     Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.     hhttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/find-last-year-tax-data-file-tax-file-computer/L0XJvPaJr_US_en_US?uid=m6gufxei     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/data-systems/find-tax-data-file-mac/L4VNGm33S_US_en_US?uid=m6guhab0 You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30, an actual copy of your tax return. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf       SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS ! Is NC saying that you owe tax due for 2019?  Your only proof that you paid would be your own bank or credit card records.   What does it say in your online TurboTax account for 2019?  Does it show that a 2019 return was e-filed and accepted?   Or was the state return rejected?   If you find that the return was not ever filed, the only way to file it now is by mail.   You will need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it to the state.

The current 2025 program does not include social security as one of the income options to select. At the top of the list of incomes it says that social security is not transferable from the previous year so it is not included in the list. Interestingly, my 2024 social security data was transferred properly?  I think there is a glitch in the program. Please advise.
When Will this be available. Not very satisfied not being able to compute my tax liability before year end.   Doug [removed] [email address removed]

You don't have to be concerned with the federal side of this because interest from obligations of the federal government is fully taxable by the federal government.   Re the State of Georgia, interest from federal government securities are exempt from state taxation but you may have to enter that in the State section of the program. You should also note that some states make a distinction (or have made one in the past) between dividends paid out of a mutual fund and interest paid directly from the federal government (e.g., where you would directly own U.S. Treasuries).

I made an error on my 1040 Schedule A concerning Mortgage Interest.  I had form 1098 from my mortgage companies and this amount should be on Line 8a. of schedule Also, I  had a small amount of $285.21 that should have been on line 8b of the schedule A since I did not receive a 1098 form from that bank. If it is less than $600, no form 1098 is issued. The issue: I need to file an amended tac retturn that decrsae the amount on Line 8a and has an amount on line 8b...but I do not dsee how to separate the two sums in the desktop application.   Thanks for any help.

Since it was paid in 2025 then it is a valid medical expense to be entered as an itemized deduction on the 2025 Schedule A.  There is no need to designate this payment as for 2026 Medicare premium.   Health care insurance premiums, including dental and vision insurance premiums, and other medical expenses that you paid with out of pocket funds and were not reimbursed are an eligible medical expense that you can deduct using Schedule A for itemized deductions. However, only your total medical expenses that are greater than 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) can be deducted. Your total itemized deductions reported on Form 1040 Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit. Standard deductions for 2025 Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older To enter your medical expenses - Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business) Click on Deductions and Credits Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown) Scroll down to Medical On Medical Expenses, click the start or update button

How do I enter taxes for dividends received from Vanguard's Federal Money Market Fund in TurboTax?   Taking 2024 as an example, my 1099-DIV lists U.S. obligations as 59.87% for the fund. Do I simply multiply total ordinary dividends (line 1a on 1099-DIV) by this percentage before entering into TurboTax?   How does this carry over to state tax forms (I live in the state of Georgia)?

I currently have to pay my Medicare Part B premiums in advance, three months at a time. My bill for January, February and March 2026 is due December 25.  I paid my bill on December 21 with my Visa credit card. Since I am not being reimbursed for that cost, it is eligible to be included on Federal 1040 Schedule A as a "medical expense". I paid the bill in 2025.  But it's for coverage in 2026. I'd like to claim it as a "2026 medical expense" - that seems logical to me.  Would the IRS approve of that? Or since I had to pay the bill in 2025 do I have to claim it as a "2025 medical expense"? I couldn't find the answer to my question in IRS Publication 502, Medical and Dental Expenses. And the IRS "chat bot" (or whatever it is) wouldn't let me talk to a person. I know this is not the IRS, but this seems like a common situation so I thought I'd ask. Thank you!

You cannot file a joint return with a parent.   A joint return is only filed with a legal spouse.   Your mom might be your "qualified relative" dependent for whom you can get the non-refundable $500 credit for other dependents, and perhaps Head of Household filing status.   IRS interview to help determine who can be claimed: https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/who-can-i-claim-as-a-dependent       Qualifying relative They don't have to be related to you (despite the name). They aren't claimed as a dependent by someone else. They're a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident. They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse. They lived with you the entire year (exceptions apply). They made less than $5200 in 2025 (not counting Social Security) You provided more than half of their financial support. When you add someone as a dependent, we'll ask a series of questions to make sure you can claim them. There may be other tax benefits you can get when you claim a dependent. Related Information: What does "financially support another person" mean? What is a "qualifying person" for Head of Household?
