I understand that rental property is not automatically considered an active business but I am actively participating in the business and believe 179 applies.
Bonjour, le maximum des cotisations RRQ a été dépassé vue plusieurs employeurs. L'excédent payé n'apparaît pas à la ligne 452, comment corriger l'erreur? Merci.

In TurboTax for Mac, when importing investment information for a married joint return, you can assign the first download to yourself, your spouse, or jointly.    For subsequent downloads, the software doesn't provide an option to change the owner directly before or after importing. This behavior is by design rather than a bug.   If you need to assign investment income to a different spouse, you can manually adjust the entries after import. This usually involves reviewing the investment entries under the income section and editing details to reflect the correct owner.   In TurboTax for Mac, after importing your investment sales, you can manually adjust details to assign ownership. To manually adjust ownership of investments: 1. Go to the Federal Taxes section. 2. Select Wages & Income. 3. Scroll to Investments and Savings and select your investment type (e.g., Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds). 4. Find and select the specific investment entry you want to edit. 5. Look for an option to edit details or owner information and change it to yourself, your spouse, or joint. If TurboTax doesn't provide a direct ownership field, you may need to adjust the details in the description or cost basis fields to reflect ownership correctly.

I resolved the issue myself. Turns out my daughter can claim her daughter as a dependent. I thought because she was 18 in 2025 she couldn't claim her as a dependent. But because she turned 18 in July it means for half of the year she was 17 so still qualified as a dependent. As soon as I added her back in as a dependent, I got the same results as the CRA with her qualifying for the Canada workers benefit. Turbo tax should be more clear about this in their help files. So should the CRA on their site. Their explanations are almost ambiguous. Why couldn't they state that if your daughter is born in 2007, in 2025 she qualifies as a dependent. Straight forward and no ambiguity.

You don't add depreciation to the Schedule E.  You enter the rental property as an asset and the program calculates the depreciation and includes it on Schedule E.  The information rolls over each year and the calculation is automatically done.  It also tracks accumulated depreciation (both federal and state).  If you hve been using TurboTax the past four years, you should have set this up in year one.     To set up the asset now:   Navigate to the rental property section  On the rental property info page click on "Add expense or asset"   Check the box for "New rental property" as well as "improvements, furnishings, and other assets" if you have other assets you need to enter, such as appliances.  The program will guide you through setting up the rental property.
Also, I am using the Premier Desktop version.  Lucky me I paid more for a program that doesn't work.

This advice is incorrect as you no longer get  the check-box option to save all forms and worksheets on MAC desktop TurboTax as I did non prior years. The worse part if when one goes to forms you can't multi-select the form and the accompanying worksheets or WKS files either. So it is painful to print 1 form at a time and 1 WKS at a time.   So now one is locked into TurboTax and can't get to their complete records if ever needed.   This needs to be submitted as a bug as one definitely wants to keep all the forms and workings if ever needed to defend the submission with IRS.

My 1099-R lists the taxable portion of my pension in the box 2b. This has been entered into TurboTax and was sufficient last year.  This year it insists I enter a bunch of information to calculate it even though it is already entered! I don't have the information to enter either.  It did not work this way last year.  How can I get it to just take the taxable amount entered in 2B? It does not let me skip the manual entry. Very frustrating.

I live in NY and work in NJ.  In past years, I got a credit on my NY state tax return that was exactly equal to the tax liability on my NJ non-resident return.  This year, the credit on my NY return is smaller than the amount of NJ tax paid, and I am trying to figure out why.   The problem first appears on my NY Form IT-112-R, where the credit is calculated.  Line 24(a) asks for the amount of tax paid to the other state by the taxpayer (me).  The number listed there is smaller than the amount of tax on my NJ return.  I can't figure out where this smaller number comes from.    I am using TurboTax Premium online.  I used the print center to download a draft of the return with all worksheets.  On the "IT-112-R (NJ) Resident Tax Credit -- Smart Worksheet", the number listed for "Amount of tax imposed by the other state" is correct.  I could not find any worksheet that shows how the smaller number on line 24(a) of the Ir-112-R is calculated.  How can I determine where this number comes from?

Sorry yes line 8z.     I have deleted the 1099 on multiple occasions and re-entered.  It remains incorrect programming.     I wish someone at TurboTax would review the code.    Let me put the number blowup in context for my return (which has many items).  These are not my actual numbers but they are proportionately accurate.   Form 1040, line 9  $43,890 before the Form 1099-MISC Form 1116, line 3e  $49,597 before the Form 1099-MISC is added.  BTW, I have a reconciliation (I am a retired CPA who ran 2 different Fortune 500 tax departments) that this figure is correct (of course it is incomplete because I have not added the 1099-MISC yet). Schedule 1, line 8z  $156 dollars (from the 1099-MISC) Form 1040, line 9 $44,046 after the 1099-MISC is added Form 1116, line 3e $10,659 after the 1099-MISC is added   Maybe now you can see why this is spectacularly incorrect as the only item that changes (though I have multiple entries that make up my gross income) is $156 but it decreases total gross income for purposes of the foreign tax credit almost 80%   It is a source code problem when the 1099-MISC gets added with my other items of gross income.   The dolts at TurboTax have been completely useless.

Alors où doit-on préciser le genre de revenu?   Merci

There is a problem with the calculations the program does.  I was able beat it into submission by going to the forms and deleting the personal % numbers for the rental expenses.    I also had to change some cca numbers that the program seems to have entered all by itself.   I hope the rest of the program is more reliable than the rental calculations....

@user17742261769  - easier approach.... just use this website.  Also, 96% of married couples file Joint as Congress only passes tax laws that protect the sactity of marriage.  It does not pass laws that delay marriage or incent divorce.   Highly unlikely filing Separate will be to your advantage.    Other than being new at this (newly weds) and not understanding, why would you want to file Separate?    https://www.dinkytown.net/java/1040-tax-calculator.html

I am using TurboTax Premier Desktop 2025.  The calculations for Wisconsin Schedule OS appear to be correct when reviewing my return in either step-by-step OR in forms view.  My return passes all checks and reviews.  HOWEVER, when I print my return for review prior to filing, the Schedule OS of my Wisconsin return shows all zeroes (0) for all lines.  I did already complete my return for the other state and figures transferred to the calculations correctly (I checked everything manually).  Both the "print" and "save as pdf" options print/save the schedule but show nothing in any of the lines.  I did try deleting that schedule, saving the tax file, exiting TurboTax, then restarting the program/return.  When I did, the previous Schedule OS was still there.  I proceeded with review(s) again.  Again, when I "printed" my returns for preview before filing - no Schedule OS figures in the "printed" or saved preview returns.
