This is a user community forum, so no one here can know anything about your return unless you explain it.  But be aware this is a public Internet forum, so don't post any personal information.   What screen are you stuck on?  i.e., what and where is the roadblock?   Is there any error message?   Have you gone through the Federal review (and state review) if applicable?

My child got a 1099-NEC for $1300 and we created a roth IRA and put it all in there. I now realize that we contributed too much because her net income should be 1300 - 1/2 of self employment tax.  What should we do to correct this?  Can we just transfer the extra out of her roth IRA now?  Any penalty or consideration we need to do when we file her 2025 tax return?  Thanks!

My CA tax return was stated to be at $1468. but when checking my bank account the amount I received was $458. I am guessing that this is my CA tax return because the vendor name is "TURBOTAX CA refund". Is there a mistake on my part? or was there are mix up? or what should I be doing now? My last year tax returns, both were accurate. (STATE and FED) I'm new to the USA, so taxes here a foreign to me. And use TURBOTAX because it is easier

Some states are fairly quick with refunds, while other states can take a long time processing returns--even several weeks--as they crack down on detecting fraudulent returns.     Here are some things you should check:   First, you need to be sure your state return was successfully filed.   If you efiled, be sure your efiled state return was accepted.  If you used Online TurboTax, you can check by looking at the Tax Home in your Online account.   Or did you choose to file by mail instead?  TurboTax does not mail it for you.  If you chose that method, you have to print, sign, date, and mail it.   Indiana Department of Revenue says it can take about 3 weeks for an efiled return to process, and up to 12 weeks for a mailed paper return.  Your bank's processing procedures can add a few days to that.  But you can use the Indiana refund lookup tool to check on the status of your refund.   FAQ:  How do I track my Indiana state tax refund? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-indiana-tax-refund/L5YnhK15P_US_en_US

Sorry that is a user error. For the Social Security, you get 0 on 6b if you didn't answer the Foreign question right. Or if the amount on 6b is too low and you are married you answered it wrong for one spouse.   Starting in 2024 there is a new question asking if you lived in a foreign country. People were answering it wrong or skipping it. Go back through the Social Security entries and check, check for each spouse if married. If the IRS adjusted your return you do not need to amend. And Check the top of the Turbo Tax Social Security Worksheet. There is a box to check if you lived in a foreign country.

Hi all, getting really confused here and looking for some support around two questions. Question 1: My spouse and I live in CA and are MFS (the good ol student loans like many others have discussed). We calculated all of our communal property income/taxes, so form 8958 looks ready to go. However, that form automatically pulls from our W2 Box 1's since it is at the federal level. I kept reading that you need to manually input Box16 (CA wages) for the state return and recalculate, but can't for the life of me find where to update that information. If someone can point us in the right direction, we'd greatly appreciate it. Once we are able to update that info, do we use the same method to caluclate communal income/taxes? Total income (Box 16) + other income streams / 2 - (our respective incomes) and report as addition or subtraction. And for taxes total CA taxes / 2 - (our respective CA taxes), report as addition or subtraction?   Question 2: My spouse made it through Turbo Tax checks for both federal and state without any problems and can e-file. However, I keep getting "the return has withholding from a source other than Forms W2, W2G, 1099R, 1099G, 1099INT, 1099DIV, 1099B, 1099MISC, 529B, and 593" and can see that in forms mode, my "EF info wks" has line item 5 checked as yes, which is causing the above issue. Obviously, I can't uncheck it on my own, so I went down a rabbit hole looking for 592B 593 because in Form 540 "B", it kept giving me an error when Turo Tax would check the CA return and would tell me to put 0. I wanted to delete forms, but since they don't exist I can't. At my ends wits at this point! Please help if you have run into this issue!   Thanks a bunch in advance.

I’m getting VERY frustrated as I was already charged $138 to file by Turbo Tax and now I’m stuck and can’t even file my tax return! There’s no way to contact anyone for help. I’m beginning to feel scammed.    Please explain more about what you mean by "this ID verification thing."   That term can mean more than one thing.   Is one of the following your situation?   Did you receive an IRS letter with a 14-digit code asking you to ID Verify at the IRS website before they will process your return? Or are you referring to the 6-digit email verification code that some people need when efiling their returns, and are you not receiving the code in your email? If neither of those is your situation, then please explain more.   We can tell you more about what steps to take once we know for sure what you are asking about.   Since you said you cannot file your return, I suspect it may be the 6-digit email verification code, but that would just be a guess until we learn more.    But that is a different process than "ID verification", so that's why I'm confused.  We can tell you the steps to get your 6-digit email verification code if you are not receiving it in your email.

my state refund was accepted on February 16 and I still have not received it. This is the longest in all my years of filing taxes that it’s ever taken I have two kids and I ended up owing $5000 which I don’t understand, I know I made a significant more amount of money, but still to not even get that much in my federal and the state is taking forever is annoying

For tax year 2024 I overcontributed $8000 to my Roth IRA.  Before filing my return for tax year 2024 my advisor removed the contribution.  The contribution amount and about $1000 of earnings were returned to me.  Following advice from the TurboTax community, when I filed my return for 2024 I created my own 1099-R for 2025 to effectively negate having ever contributed to my Roth IRA in tax year 2024.  My understanding was that when I received the actual 1099-R for 2025, I should not enter it because I already paid tax on the earnings when filing my return for 2024.  In early 2026 I received the 1099-R for 2025.  It shows a gross distribution for the full $9000, and a taxable amount of the $1000 that was earnings.  I read somewhere that I have to enter the 1099-R for 2025 because it has been sent to the IRS.  But when I enter it, TurboTax tells me I will need to amend my return for 2024.  But the whole reason why I created the 1099-R for 2025 myself (before filing my 2024 return) was so I wouldn't have to amend my 2024 return. Can I just leave the 1099-R off of my return for 2025?

Yes after you enter the 1099R the next screen will ask Do any of these situations apply to you with a list. The 7th item is "I transferred all or part of this money directly to charity". Check that and the next screen will be either for RMD info or ask how much was transferred to Charity. Just keep going though all the screens.   Then do NOT enter it again under Deductions & Credits. It only goes on the 1099R entry.  Otherwise you would be deducting it twice.

Do I enter the QCD amount when I enter the 1099R info AND also when I enter the amount given to the charity as a charitable contribution? So, in effect I enter it twice?

I own a single member llc as a disregarded entity. This LLC is the general partner of the a partnership. It received K1 with Guaranteed payments for services (4a) of $24000. When I input the K1, I also reported Unreimbursed Partnership Expenses (UPE) of $13000, but UPE of $13000 was not deducted from the income of $24000. The $24000 is characterized as nonpassive income in schedule E part II.  I did check the partnership agreement requires GP pay expenses out of the pocket.  I think this is a bug on TT? Can you take a look and help fix it?    I am using turbotax online premium.  I have shared my file with agent and token number is 1343488. Thanks!
