Ok, so I did some more digging on the IRS site. The Employer Name Control is typically the first four characters of the household employer's last name or business name. How to Fix: Verify the EIN corresponds to the name on your Form SS-4 (application for EIN). If it still fails, the return may need to be paper-filed. So, I dug up my SS-4, and the EIN was processed with my "Business Name", and my FULL name, secondarily. I tried to change the Schedule H form where the business name is showing my name, [ TbTax inserts my name from the Form 1040 personal information]. TbTax now says I can't over-ride the business name, and will not EFile my return. TbTax should allow the user to over-ride the entry to reflect the correct business name if that is different from the filer's personal name. If anyone has any way to bypass the override and get the E-File to execute please let me know.

What is the Schedule F filing requirement for a startup farm with no expenses (no start up costs or anything) or income for 2025? My relative wants to raise trees and applied for an EIN for an LLC in 2025 but there was zero activity (other than a state $35 filing fee). I dont see anything in the Sch F instructions or Pub 225 Farming, but a google search says if there is no income or expenses (Sch F all zeroes), Sch F generally doesnt need to be filed. Just want to verify Sch F doesnt get filed for 2025.

It appears there’s five comments on this important post, but they won’t open - at least not on an iPhone. Is this yet another TurboTax bug? Thanks for any advice on how to get to those comments.

I would like my 35 dollars refunded on my account when I filed my taxes with you. Here's why...ok so normally my father a tax professional normally does my taxes and I did mine by myself this year because he hasn't been in the best of health. I know enough about taxes that I'm not totally tax stupid. I followed all the guidelines you gave on the site and mailed my taxes. Well the information that was asked of me to add for my HSA to produce the form 8889 had all the wrong numbers and when it got to the IRS they flagged me to correct the information. Heres the problem I had to wait 3 weeks for a letter from them and than had to have my poor old father help me correct the errors. I followed exactly where you asked me to input information and it came out wrong. So now I had plans for that return and it's delayed and I'm waiting now to see if they will process the return with what I sent to them with my father's guidance. So I ask you to review your app and maybe add more details about how to enter this information correctly. I would like my 35 dollars refunded for this hassle considering an HSA isn't very difficult to enter now that I've sat down and talked with my father. This was a pain in the butt.

If you are using the online version, to enter your self-employment income select the following: Federal Income and Expenses Show More next to Self-Employment Start next to Self-Employment Yes, to you have any self-employment income or expenses Enter the type of self-employment work you do and you can select that you use your name for your business Click through a few more screens and you will get to a screen that says "Your XX info" Click Looks good Then you will come to a screen that says Let's enter the income for your business. It will give you the option of 1099-NEC or Other self-employed income including the 1099K , cash and checks. If you do not select one, it will not let you enter your income Enter your self-employment income on the next screen Continue and on the next screen click add expenses In the online version, you would need to use TurboTax Premium to enter your self employment income. How do I upgrade to a different TurboTax Online product? If you are using the desktop version, you will need to use TurboTax Home and Business. Then you will click on the business tax and walk through the steps to enter your business income and expenses. You can upgrade your desktop program by clicking on the Upgrade TurboTax button at the bottom of the screen. * Please note navigation may differ slightly depending on which version of TurboTax you are using* The income and expenses as an independent contractor will be reported on Schedule C which is part of your overall tax return. This also means you will be subject to the 15.3% SE Tax. If you did not pay Self Employment (SE) Taxes in 2025, and if you plan to do this again in 2026, it may be a good idea to make estimated quarterly payments to avoid penalties. My wife and I accidentally contributed $7000 to her Roth IRA account in 2024 directly rather than using the "backdoor roth" method, and her AGI is above the allowed amount for direct Roth IRA contribution. I am now trying to fix the issue. Since it's now 2026 and I've missed the extended filing deadline for 2024, I assume we will have to withdraw the contribution and pay the penalty. Can someone confirm if these steps are correct? Withdraw the original amount contribution amount of $7000 (assume I will get a 1099R form next year showing this as an early distribution and have to pay the 10% penalty next year as well) Fill out 5329 form for 6% penalty with my 2025 return. I have done this using Turbotax for the 2025 return, can someone confirm this looks correct: File 5329 form for 6% penalty for 2024 amended return. Amend 2024 tax return 8606 form? When we filed the 2024 return, we thought we had contributed to a traditional IRA, not Roth IRA, so we filed 8606 for my wife with the $7000 as a nondeductible traditional IRA contribution. Please let me know if above is correct or if I'm missing anything. Thank you!

You might have trouble finding old TurboTax programs. You could consider going to a paid preparer or download the forms from the IRS if you are comfortable doing it manually.

It's March 26th. I tried today, still getting the message that it requires software update, try again on 26th or after. What's worse, my state refund figure has gone from 900ish to 400ish. I got an so-called expert to call me, she called me back, addressing me with the wrong name. Didn't seem to have a clue of what happened. Put me on hold for 10 mins then disconnected me, and closed the case.

Your real estate income may have been reported on a Form 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC. As such, you may have entered it in the Wages and Income section, then Other Common Income, then Income from Form 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC. You also may have reported it in the Self-employment Income section where you enter income from real estate activities. If so, you should keep the Form 1099 entry but make sure it is only in the self-employment section.
