follow these instructions CLOSELY   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/retirement-benefits/enter-backdoor-roth-ira-conversion/L7gGPjKVY_US_en_US   I suspect this is where you are going sideways.  a "contribution" and a "conversion" are very different animals.    Q.4 Enter Shruti's amount switched from traditional IRA contribution to Roth IRA contribution. (Note: Don't include losses or any interest you earned.) My answer is '$ 7,000'.   I wonder if the answer should be zero. You made a $7,000 CONTRIBUTION to your Trad IRA and then made a $7,000 CONVERSION to your Roth IRA.

Here is what I am doing: Under Income, -->IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), I uploaded the 1099-R that I received. In the 1099-R, Box 1 (Gross Distribution) shows $7,000 and Box 2a (Taxable Amount) shows $7,000. In Box 7 (Distribution Code/s) is '2' and the checkbox below IRA/SEP/SIMPLE is checked. All other boxes are blank. Followup questions: 1. Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2025? (This includes repayments of prior year disaster distributions in 2025). My answer is 'No'. 2. Did you make any nondeductible IRA contributions to your traditional IRA from 2024 or prior years? (Note: Nondeductible contributions are tracked on Form 8606 in your prior year returns.). My answer s 'No'. 3. Your Traditional IRAs-Enter the total value of all of your traditional IRA, SEP, and SIMPLE IRA accounts on December 31, 2025. This information is sent by mail on Form 5498. Do not include Roth IRAs. Value of your traditional, SEP, and SIMPLE IRAs on December 31, 2025. My answer is '0' (since money was moved to Roth by that day). Outstanding rollovers-My answer is '0'. Outstanding recharacterizations-My answer is '0'. Then I am directed to 'Your wages and income'. Here I see $7,000 under 'IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)'. Under 'Tell us about your IRAs', I selected checkbox in front of 'Traditional IRA' and not in front of 'Roth IRA'. Clicked 'Continue'. Q.1 Your Work retirement plans. Are you covered by a retirement plan at work? My answer is 'No'. Q.2 Is this a repayment of a retirement distribution you received? My answer is 'No'. Q.3 Enter the total amount contributed to a traditional IRA for 2025, even if some or all was later transferred to a Roth IRA. Learn more your total 2025 traditional IRA contributions. (Note: Don't enter Roth contributions or rollovers here, even if Shruti later recharacterized to a traditional IRA. ) Your total 2025 traditional IRA contributions. My answer is '$ 7,000'. Amount of these regular contributions for 2025 you contributed between January 1, 2026 and April 15, 2026. My answer is '0'. Q.4 Enter Shruti's amount switched from traditional IRA contribution to Roth IRA contribution. (Note: Don't include losses or any interest you earned.) My answer is '$ 7,000'. Q. 5 Enter your recharacterization information. Original contribution date-My answer is '12/22/2025' Recharacterization date. My answer is '12/31/2025'. Recharacterization reason. My answer was 'Income eligibility change'. Amount transferred (after earnings and losses). My answer is '$7,000' Q.6 Did you contribute more money to this IRA than was allowed in 2024 or any previous year? My answer is 'No'. Q.7 Did you make any nondeductible IRA contributions to your traditional IRA from 2024 or prior years? (Note: Nondeductible contributions are tracked on Form 8606 in your prior year returns.). My answer is 'No'. Then I get redirected to see 'Based on what you've entered you don't qualify for an IRA deduction.'  No 8606 is generated and $7,000 is still showing up as my taxable income.
After you choose 'start a new return' from the File dropdown it will try looking for a return.  Move down and click 'continue without transfer' and it will start a new return.

This year I worked VERY HARD not to get caught with any Expert Assist charge. I did not check that column at the beginning and somehow at the end AFTER I had put in my credit card number, which by the way is a Citi DoubleCash card where I signed up for the TurboTax discount (and I never pay any attention to these corporate agreements but saw this one) and didn't get it, I was looking at the price and thought, "What the heck. How did this happen?" I hadn't even filed yet and in my mind not even finalized the payment, but nope, you got me. I went back and tried to start again at review, but the app said that I had paid.  If I do not get my money back for snaring me into the Expert Assist that I did not want and certainly did not use OR the discount for using that credit card, that's it. I'm done. No more. It's too easy to trick people.  I will never get caught again because I'm done. You know, I'm a very well-educated person but apparently too stupid to use TurboTax.

I have both a premier and deluxe licence on my intuit account because another family member downloaded in my intuit account.   How can I remove the deluxe.   Should I uninstall turbotax from my downloaded apps and just reinstall premier.   Last year I did have deluxe  installed as added program... mine and theirs and it didn't cause any issues.  I filed my 5 returns and relative filed 3or 4 on their license.   Thought I could ignore and do again, but now they cannot file electronically

Please ignore the previous reply - I now understand what the option is.   Curious about one thing: if I already added the $5000 that I overcontributed in 2024 to the income reported on the 2024 tax return, is it true that as a non-medical distribution I will have to once again add it to the reported income for the 2026 tax year, essentially being taxed twice on the same amount? (on top the 20% penalty that I owe for the non-medical distribution)   Note I don't have any unreimbursed medical expenses to offset the amount here.
where do I enter results from CSA OPM 1099 r Retirement forms.? Using 2025 premier version which is more complex than 2024 version of premier?

A schedule K with an amount on line 9a is entered into Turbotax Home and Business 2025 and although turbotax now includes a line L code O entry for the 1202 exclusion on the K1 this doesn't seem to flow through to schedule D.  So the gain shows as a taxable gain on line 12 of Schedule D.   Is there a work around for this?   The IRS requires that this 1202 stock transaction also be reported on form 8949 where the exclusion can be entered.  But this results in the capital gain being reported twice with only one exclusion.  It has been suggested to reduce the amount reported on line 9a by the exclusion amount but I'm concerned that will create a mismatch with the Partnership 1065  K1 sent to the IRS

Hello, I did a standard tax thing, did NOT apply for anything fancy, and at the checkout, apparently "TurboTax Online Expert Assist Premium 2025" was added for $209. With state taxes on there, the total was more than my return. I did NOT sign up for that (or at least, no willingly). I wanted the bare-bones basic stuff. I thought it was gonna be $40 (which is doable) because when they asked me if I wanted to use my Federal Return to pay for it, it said "40". I saw the note on the side with the $209 price, but I thought it was "upgrade to this for this price". I was just trying to be done, so foolishly may not have paid attention to you tacking on extra payment that I did NOT agree to. Please give me a refund, and use the STANDARD tax thing for me.

The fix did not work - same error message (no error code).  Next phone associate I spoke to could not find any issue. Suggested I try a different browser or contact IRS during the week to see if they have the return.  Indicated he is escalating the issue for research.  Also suggested I might file by mail - TurboTax checker finds nothing wrong with the return.
You can leave it connected.
