Deductibleduck.com is a fantastic alternative to ItsDeductible. I was able to import all the old data that I downloaded from ItsDeductible into Deductible Duck, and the process for adding new donation information is easy. The founder, Dave, is easy to reach and responsive to questions and suggestions. I couldn't be happier with Deductibleduck.com.

I got a new computer. I transferred everything from old to new computer, yet turbo tax 2024 won't load. It seems I need the initial activation code which I do not have. What do I do to get my previously filed returns available on my new computer (Microsoft)?

@MG26 the IRS says when you convert a personal asset to business use the basis for depreciation is the lesser of the actual cost or Fair Market Value.

i'm not Tom. There is no info yet on the advance program for 2026 (2025 taxes) so if it is offered it's not likely before it starts accepting e-filing - usually January. Note that when it first opens E-filing your return sits on the Turbotax servers until the IRS officially opens e-filing. (in 2025 it was 1/27). Your return can't be accepted until the IRS opens e-filing.
It's up to Turbotax to decide whether to actually grant you the advance. there are certain criteria which must be met. If granted there are additional fees ($40/45 in 2025) if you use your refund to pay any Turbotax return fees.
this is from the 2025 advance program

online is now closed for 2024. when you log into your account you should see "Complete a 2024 return" click on it. you will need to purchase a desktop version to complete your return. you will not be able to e-file. Turbotax will guide you through the steps to transfer whatever data was entered in online to the desktop.
for the future note that it is necessary to complete online and e-file before the filing deadline (generally 10/15 unless a weekend or holiday then by the next business day). if your return is rejected then online remains open to correct and efile but only for a short period.

online has been closed for 2024. you will need the desktop software to finish the return and you won't be able to e-file. if you started with online, see below to continue the return. in the personal worksheet section either using step mode or forms mode, there is a section for taxpayers who can be claimed as dependents.
in step mode it's under the personal info tab. when you enter or edit your info it's the page following where you enter your name and other personal info. this page will ask if any of these apply and one question is whether you can be claimed as a dependent.
in forms mode the question is in section II of the worksheet
To switch from TurboTax Online to TurboTax Desktop, install the desktop version, sign in to your Intuit account, and import your tax data. Steps to Switch Install TurboTax Desktop: If you haven't already, install the TurboTax Desktop software on your computer. Make sure to select the correct version for the tax year you are working on. Open TurboTax Desktop: Launch the TurboTax Desktop application on your computer. Sign In: When prompted, sign in to your Intuit account that you used for TurboTax Online. Import Data: Select the option to Continue From TurboTax Online. This will initiate the process to import your tax data from the online version into the desktop application. Your return will open once the data transfer is complete. State Programs: If your return includes a state, ensure that you also install the corresponding state program in TurboTax Desktop to proceed with your filing.

Previously when I logged back in, my session would reload and I could pick up where I left off. That does not seem to be an option now.

You’re on the right track in addressing this — depreciation is required, and missing it does need correction. The IRS typically requires you to “catch up” all prior depreciation in one year using Form 3115 (Change in Accounting Method). The total adjustment, called a Section 481(a) adjustment, reflects all the depreciation you should have taken since the property was placed in service. Yes, this can create a large deduction in one year and may reduce your taxable income significantly, possibly even creating a loss. It could also impact your eligibility for certain credits, like health insurance subsidies, so it’s worth reviewing your full tax picture before filing.

be sure to determine what is meant by those "covered" under the plan. the plan may define that as just the employee or the employee and family members.

if the employer discovered the error in 2025 and paid you renumeration in that year, the reg says the employer can deduct it from your 2025 renumeration. if none was paid, the obligation of the employee to the employer with respect to the undercollection is a matter for settlement between the employee and the employer. the last sentence means you should see a lawyer that specializes in employee compensation issues.
however, when did the employer "ascertain" the error. that too is a question for a lawyer

the employer must collect the amount of the undercollection on or before the last day of the calendar year by deducting the amount from remuneration of the employee, if any, paid after the employer ascertains the error.
