If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction.  If you are Single and your AGI is over $175,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.   If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.   Standard deductions for 2025 Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older   New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers. The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b Look at your Form 1040 - You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

I made after-tax contributions to my IRA from 1992-1999.  Some 8606s were filed and some were not (this was my mistake).   In 2025, I took my first-ever retirement distribution.  It will be reported using the pro-rata rule on Form 8606.   If the IRS tells me to prove my after-tax basis, how do I prove it to their satisfaction?   Will 8606s suffice?  If so, what's to keep me from simply making up the missing 8606s (since the IRS doesn't keep records from the 1990s)?   If 8606s won't suffice, does the IRS demand 5498s?

If he is a Green card holder then he would file a form 1040.  Depending on how long he held his green card in 2025 (are we talking about 24 or 25- I see 2 different years now) he may have to file as a Dual Status Resident which he would still file the 1040 form for his time in the US as a Green Card Holder, and write that on the top of his return.     Since he has no income, his return will need to  be printed and mailed.   For the 2025 return, they are due April 15th.    Yes, he would need to sign it unless he appoints you as power of attorney for his return.
Can I amend 2024 Taxes where had loss on Farming to include a USDA Emergency Disaster Relief check received in 2025?

The section 179 option allows you to deduct up to 100% of the cost of the assets, but is limited to your net income after expenses in the current year. Any deduction not allowed gets carried over to the next year and again will be limited to the net income that year and that situation repeats until you use up the full deduction.   With the bonus depreciation, depending on when you place the assets in service during 2025, you can also deduct up to 100% of the cost of the assets, but the full deduction applies to the current year, even if you have a net business loss.    So, if you want a carryover of depreciation to future years and your net income is zeroed out by the special depreciation, you would be better off with the section 179 choice. You also have an option to select normal MACRs depreciation where you get the cost of the assets spread out more evenly over the useful life of the asset, with more be applied in the earlier years though.   You also have the option of choosing an amount less that the cost of the asset for section 179 treatment and then have the balance depreciated using special deprecation or normal (MACR's) depreciation.
just avoid all these refund processing gimmicks - Up to 5 Days Early, Pay With My Refund etc, they are like very very bad loans and insert third parties between you and the IRS

Yes, you will need to file an FBAR if you file form 8938, since the max value of the account is likely over $10,000.  Canadian retirement accounts — including RRSPs and TFSAs — are explicitly treated as foreign financial accounts for FBAR purposes.   Here is a link to file an FBAR.

Thanks for the clarity, Now that it's getting clear that I have to file the tax on his behalf, the following questions came up: 1. What is the form for filing his taxes(1040...?XXX) 2. He does not have or had any income when he stayed with us during 2024, as we supported him 100%, How will I denote this situation to the IRS? 3. Is it too late for filing on his behalf? and He has to sign the form?( I believe so)

I already entered the correct information in the "State estimated taxes for 2025" section and filed. And received a letter from the Georgia Department of Labor stating that they have no record of me paying the estimated taxes. That's because the company paid them, but I can't figure out how to amend my state return to show that the company paid them.

it depends. You must report the highest balance each individual account reached at any point during the year, even if funds were transferred between accounts, causing double-counting. FBAR is informational, not taxable, so inflated totals due to transfers do not cause penalties. Report the max value per account, not the total net value

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
