SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

"....has a green heck?" Do you mean a green check? Not sure where you are seeing a check mark.
DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
Check your e-file status:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
What does it say in your account? Does it show that the return was accepted? Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”
TurboTax never knows how, when or even if you paid your tax due. Your proof that you paid tax due will be your own bank or credit card records. And you can check on your own IRS online account to see what it says there.

A 2023 tax return cannot be e-filed. If you did not file it by the filing deadline in 2024, the only way to file it now is by mail. If you need to make changes to a 2023 return that you prepared using online TurboTax, you will need to use the desktop download software on a full PC or Mac. To remove a dependent, you will need to go to MY INFO.
You will be able to access the 2023 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it. But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.
Start a 2024 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2023 returns is now permanently closed.
Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2023 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.
They are available from 5 a.m. to 9p.m. Pacific time Monday - Friday

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Interesting...just checked the What-IF worksheet for Desktop Premier after the 21 Aug 2025 update. For the 2025 column, It does include the higher Std Deduction for a single person over age 65, and the additional $6000 deduction for a low income person. (Checked a different one for single person, age 72 over $200,000 income and the 6,000 disappears..as it should). So apparently, they put folks to work to at least attempt to enter the new stuff. That's pretty unusual based on prior years. I didn't notice any lines dealing with overtime or tips...but i haven't looked real closely.

Having already lost customer data, telling customers to trust them about security is really rich. Claiming to protect you from data loss by making you migrate to a new system likely exposes yet more data from PC recycling going out without first wiping the drives, than someone being the target of hacking a single user PC on the internet.

If so, how would I report that when doing my 2024 return Thank You

Hello, Every time I go to export a file to print, it keeps giving me this unexpected inappropriate advertisement for Adobe Acrobat? I do not want their software on my machine, at no point in time will I pay them an egregious subscription fee just to view my own PDF documents, when all of the competition does it for free, and does it in a far better manner. How do I remove this unwanted, unexpected, in my face advertisement from Adobe? I didn't pay for this software to be advertised at, I didn't pay for this software to have terrible adobe trash shoved in my face. This is not appropriate, this is for getting work done, not playing pattycake with Adobe.

Totally agree, 2024, will have been my last Turbo Tax year. Microsoft will continue updates past 10/14/25 if you pay or use MS rewards. My computers don't "like" Win 11 or should I say Win 11 doesn't like any of my computers and I hate Win 11 on my new one; actually down-leveled it to Win 10, so I guess 2025 tax will be filed with H&R Block software. I think they are pushing everyone to the online version of TurboTax --- just what we need, our tax returns compromised in a hack 🙂

Hello, Having a few issues with Turbotax, every time it opens, I get a Registration page, unsure why. I assumed it would only show the first time, but it shows every time. There is no button to skip, or say 'never remind me again' It mentioned something about signing the user up for advertisements..... this is not what I want. What I would expect to happen, is have Turbotax open straight to the last page or file I had open, or some sort of welcome screen that asks what I want to do. Another problem, wonder if it's related: every single time it opens, it wants me to update, but it never updates, just says I am already up to date, why? How can I fix these issues with this product?

@Impulse (for windows users) What I've done each year is to install a second copy of TTX on a laptop computer....that I use for testing purposes during the year when I am away form home. With automatic updates turned off on both computers. Then manually checking for updates each time after starting TTX....all thru the early part of the year up until I actually e-file. Then, once my main tax return is e-filed and accepted on my main desktop computer, I transfer a "copy" of it to the laptop. From then on, whenever a new update is issued, I update the laptop first and check the copy of my tax file to make sure there is no change to the Fed&State refund/or tax due. IF that remains the same on the laptop, then I know I can update my main desktop version. _____________ Not sure why TTX doesn't rewrite the MAC software allow this for MAC users, but they apparently don't have a choice to turn off TTX automatic updates.

Plus Microsoft is providing support for W10 either thru paying a small fee, spending Microsoft reward points, or allowing to save your system info on OneDrive. Yes, they are stopping "free" support, but with these other methods, it is essentially continued free support (at least for a year). And like you, I have a "modern" Skylake cpu with 32GB of RAM, plenty of disk (in RAID arrays, etc). Even if I enable TPM on my Gigabyte board (it will force me redo all my RAID sets), Microsoft doesn't like my processor. I'll probably go elsewhere as I don't have the time/money to replace my entire self-built system.

I’m not. Just giving the other option if you won’t have Windows 11. I prefer and recommend the Desktop program.

I'm trying to electronically file a federal, wisconsin, and Michigan returns through TurboTax. The signature for Michigan requests last year's AGI and refund/tax due. However, there is no indication if this is to come from the federal return or the Michigan return. Anyone know which should be entered? If Michigan and I didn't have to file in Michigan last year, do I just enter $0 in both?
