Form 8453 being generated and paying your tax online via IRS Direct Pay don't have anything to do with each other.  Indicating you paid by mail and paying online is fine and doesn't require any entry in TurboTax.  If Form 8453 was generated even though you didn't enter any summary transactions, there may some information that is triggering it.  Did you import your Form 1099-B?  If so, that could be the reason.  You can review the adjustment codes used on Form 8949 Line 1 f.  If there is a code M, it indicates multiple transactions and requires Form 8453 and Form 8949 (with all transactions listed) or Form 1099-B be mailed.

Thank you, @AnnetteB6 for your well wishes for my mom! (She's recovering well today. Your wishes are so kind.) I had to select the option that said that I had a different situation each month in order for the page with drop-downs for each month to appear. I chose family plan for each month. My federal and state returns were finally accepted! I can't thank you enough!!!

Generally if you don't send in Form 2210 with your tax return, the IRS will send you a bill.  It may have been waived. It's possible it got missed. If you had an underpayment penalty last year, you should enter it.   How to this verify in TurboTax View your Tax Summary/Form 1040: Open your 2024 return in TurboTax. Go to Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary. Click Preview My 1040 on the left side menu. Look at Line 38 (Estimated Tax Penalty). If it is blank or $0, you did not file a penalty payment. If you used a desktop program, open your 2024 return in your 2024 desktop program, switch to forms mode by clicking on Forms at the top right of your TurboTax screen and scroll down your forms listed on the left to look at your Form 1040. View your Form 2210: If you are using a Desktop Program, Go to Forms Mode (Desktop) by clicking on Forms in the top-right of your TurboTax screen Search for Form 2210. If it is there, you can see if it was calculated or if a waiver was applied. Check your Other Tax Situations: Go to Federal > Other Tax Situations > Underpayment Penalties. Review the entries to see if "Request a Waiver" was checked.  If you paid at least 90% of your current year's tax (2024) or 100% of last year's tax (2023) (110% if AGI was high), you might not owe a penalty even if you owed $25,000 at filing or it may have been waived.   The easiest and most reliable way to check this is to check your IRS Tax Account Transcript for 2024 at IRS.gov. This will show exactly what was filed, paid, and any penalties that were assessed. If you don't have an account you can create on using that link as well.   If you have additional information or questions regarding this, please return to Community and we would be glad to help.

It seems as if you used the same SSN for the primary taxpayer and another person on the tax return.   To fix a Social Security Number (SSN) in TurboTax before you file: Go to the My Info section  Continue through the screens until you see the SSN field and update it  If you need to update: Your spouse’s SSN — you’ll be able to edit it on the next screen  A dependent’s SSN — click Edit next to their name and make the correction. If your e-filed tax return was rejected for an incorrect SSN: Sign in and select Fix my return. Follow the prompts to correct the SSN or name on the "Verify" screen. If the return was rejected with error IND-031-04 or IND-032-04, re-verify the number against your tax documents. For additional information, refer to the TurboTax articles Video: What to Do If Your Tax Return Is Rejected by the IRS and What does my rejected return code mean and how do I fix it?

Recently used to turbo tax to help file taxes. However after filing/submitting, I noticed that the order of 12a - 12d on my IT form seemed to swap and were in a different order from my W2. For example, on my W2, line 12a was code C (life insurance) and line 12b was code D (retirement plan). While viewing my filed tax return, I saw code C (life insurance) now appears on line 12b and code D appears on line 12a. Does this order matter, or is everything fine as long as the correct amounts appear with the corresponding code?

Thank you, however I've already done the things referenced in that article. The issue is that TurboTax is not functioning properly: it does not download the tax data as it has done in the past.   There have been multiple desktop customers this year and last year reporting essentially the same problem. I started a new thread as the previous thread was combining the 2024 and 2025 products. The 2024 desktop version worked for me last year, so I wanted to be clear that my issue is with the 2025 product. As shown above, the build date was YESTERDAY, so I would say I'm as current as would be reasonable to expect.   --Larry

Since all of the replies appear to agree that this years estimated tax process is confusing and can lead to incorrect calculations for 2026 estimated taxes, how do we get some one from turboTax to provide some comments and hopefully agreement that an update to modify this calculation is warranted? Thanks.

Did you sell a right of way easement?  Do you still own the land and still pay property taxes on the land?  Or was there an actual sale of the land and the new owner pays the property taxes on the land?    If you still own the land, the general treatment is that the payment is not income but reduces the basis in the land that you own.  So, if you paid $10,000 for the land and received a right of way payment for $1,000, your new basis in the property is $9,000.    You still have to deal with the 1099 that was reported to the IRS.  Report the income, then immediately report a minus entry for the same amount.  Reference both entries as 'right of way sold - basis adjustment'.    Follow the steps below to report this income that is not reported as self-employment income.   Down the left side of the screen, click Federal. Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income. Click the down arrow to the right of Less Common Income. Click to the right of Other miscellaneous income…. Click to the right of Other reportable income. At the screen Any other Taxable Income, enter Yes. At the screen Other miscellaneous income summary, select Add. Enter the description of the income and the amount.  Click Continue. Click Add for another Miscellaneous income Item.   View the entries at Tax Tools / Print Center / Print, save or preview this year's return / Include government and TurboTax worksheets.    The income will be listed on line 8z of the Schedule 1 Additional Income and Adjustments to Income and line 8 of the Federal 1040 tax return.
You do not need to do this for the Federal Return. My state (PA) requires me to send it with a 1 page document when I efile my state return.

If you entered Education Expenses and you are using TurboTax Desktop, in FORMS mode, 'Open Form'  Education Tuition and Fees Summary.  There's a box to check to 'Launch Optimizer' that flashes and goes away, and the 'Automatic' box is checked below.   This may be what is happening to you in Review.  You can verify that you got the Education Credit on Form 1040, Line 29 and on Form 8863.   If so, don't worry about the checkbox flashing on/off.  Actually, if that is the only error you get in Review, you could go directly to File.    @codedog
