I paid estimated taxes each quarter of calendar year 2025 based on the 2024 program's estimate.  In the 2025 version of the program, the estimated taxes for 2026 are way too low.   Why isn't the program computing similar estimates for 2026?

If you want to make changes to your filing status on a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.    You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed. This means waiting until the payment submitted with the tax return has been processed, or your refund has been received. You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return. Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected. You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

For 2024 tax year, I was able to follow directions from a different post by updating the "Here's Your Education Summary" screen under "Scholarships and Grants (for all schools)." In 2026 Turbotax no longer has this screen for tax year 2025. Also, the grant wasn't used for room and board so I don't want to put the taxable income in the section for room and board. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You are correct- as a Connecticut resident, you must file a resident return reporting all income (including the CA internship) and a California non-resident return reporting only the income earned in CA. You will receive a credit in CT for taxes paid to CA to avoid double taxation.    In TurboTax, you will want to file your California nonresident return first, then the Connecticut resident return so that the  credit for the taxes paid to California can be applied correctly.

Congratulations Scott... The NUA provides for significant savings verses putting your shares into an IRA which would be taxed at Ordinary tax rates. One thing that might be helpful for others is: The NUA portion in Box 6 of your 1099-R is always treated as long‑term capital gain when you sell the stock, even if you sell the same day you receive it. Not all states recognize this as you point out.

Once your tax return is released to the IRS, TurboTax has no control over it. However, the IRS has published an article because delays happen so frequently. Why it may take longer than 21 days for some taxpayers to receive their federal refund The IRS states, "To check the status of a refund, taxpayers should use the Where's My Refund? tool on IRS.gov."

For this reason, I had to fill out my MI-1040, 6072, and Schedule 1 manually and mail it all in.  Turbo tax will not let you e-file anyway, and even if it did you would have to mail in a copy of your K-1.  Next year you'll have to manually enter your 2025 state refund since TurboTax won't know about it.   I'm hoping this is all fixed for next year (including an option to upload a K-1 pdf).  This experience has caused me and many of my coworkers to research other products.  I stuck with TurboTax this year (for Federal at least).  I've been a user since the 90s, but I'm not planning to go through this again and most of my coworkers gave up and switched this year.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

I’m using TurboTax Premier 2025 (Desktop, Windows). After the 3/28/2026 update, I encountered two critical issues: Missing Dealer Transfer Question for Clean Vehicle Credit: Before the update, the software asked: "Did you transfer the credit to the dealer at the time of purchase?" This allowed me to correctly report that I transferred the credit to the dealer. After the update, this question is missing. Now, it only asks about "Vehicle Sold," "Vehicle Use," "Tentative credit," and "Business use percentage." As a result, the software incorrectly includes the Clean Vehicle Credit in my refund, even though I transferred it to the dealer. File Errors When Opening Previously Saved Returns: After the update, opening previously saved 2025 tax files (which passed Smart Check) repeatedly triggers the error: "Hmm, looks like we've hit a snag. We recommend you revisit the last topic you were working on to make sure all info's correct." No specific issue is indicated, making it impossible to resolve. Has anyone else experienced this? How can I resolve it? Thank you for your help! Wey

@JamesG1, if I report using the method you describe it does not populate the correct line on the MI-1040 form (need to populate line 30 as shown in my initial post).   I understand that I can't e-file for Michigan, but that is okay. The issue is that I can't even edit the form to enter the correct number and calculate correctly (see screenshot in my initial post). This was supported last year and it's very disappointing to have this issue now. I have been using TurboTax for over 20 years; it's sad to end the use over such an issue.   Is there any way to report this to the development team? I did that. The issue is that TT doesnt transfer the information to the NJ state return. So NJ is taxing the Roth distribution when it is qualified under the tax code.

I found the issue.  Even though these state-related entries contained amounts of 0, entering a state abbreviation for them resolved the SmartCheck issues.  Looking at some of the entries, I did select a state when entering the values of 0, so I don't know why the software doesn't seem to have loaded/retained them correctly.
