Schedule C is used for your business expenses when you are self-employed. You cannot use the Free Edition if you have self-employment income.
If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare, you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.

Lower than what? We cannot see your screen, so we do not know what amounts you have looked at or where you saw them.
The “summary” given to you by TurboTax may have confused you. That summary just nets out the difference between a refund you are getting and an amount you owe. Or it adds two refunds or tax “due” amounts together.
The federal and state treasuries are completely separate from each other.
Your state tax due cannot be paid from a federal refund.
And….your federal tax due cannot be paid from a state refund.
Neither refund can be used to pay the amount due to the other one.
If you owe tax due, you have to pay it yourself by the filing deadline on April 15, 2026.

I am filing MFJ and my spouse received OT pay in 2025. Our AGI is only slightly over the $300,000 amount which is when the deduction starts to phase out. TurboTax calculated the OT deduction correctly based on her end-of-year paystub, but it then reports that the maximum deductible amount for us is $0 due to the phaseout. By my calculation, the maximum deductible amount should be something less than IRS $25,000 MFJ maximum but not zero since our AGI falls in the phaseout range. Any help explaining why Turbotax is not letting claim any amount for this deduction?

I purchased a license for Desktop TT 2025 and went through the install program but when I tried to open the app I receive a popup message saying TT is having trouble and I asks me to tell them what I was doing to help them resolve the issue. I have done this several times and have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and spent close to four hours on the phone talking to their helpless desk folks. The app never gets to the screen that asks for my license code to register the software so something is not connecting with the Intuit side. That is very frustrating and I have asked for a refund and will go elsewhere, but there is another problem that I think is related and I NEED it fixed. All of a sudden, my 2024 version of TT is doing the same thing when it used to work perfectly. I think the two problems are related and I NEED to be able to get into my 2024 version. I had a product that was working fine that is now broken and I don't think it is just a coincidence. Anyone got any ideas.

Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

Just out of curiosity, I tried to report this bug through the Turbotax help chat and this is the response I received: "For the Clean Vehicle Credit in tax year 2025, eligibility is based on the date the vehicle is placed into service, not just the purchase date. The credit applies to vehicles placed into service on or before September 30, 2025. Vehicles purchased before October 1, 2025, but placed into service after that date generally don't qualify. The credit rules specify that the vehicle must be new and meet other criteria like final assembly in North America and MSRP limits. In summary, it's the placed into service date that determines credit eligibility, not strictly the purchase date." This response from Intuit help chat is obviously completely incorrect based on the IRS guidance you referenced in your post as well as the extensive media coverage prior to the deadline confirming that buyers did not need to take possession of the vehicle prior to the deadline to receive the credit. Do Intuit employees monitor this forum? As you pointed out, this is a significant bug in the software so it would be nice if someone from Intuit could acknowledge the problem and confirm that it will be addressed.

Code Y in Box 7 of 1099R is optional for companies to use for 2025 when issuing 1099s. My brokerage decided not to use code Y and used code 7 even though I had QCDs. TurboTax needs a work around for this issue. If you use code 7 you don't have the ability to enter the QCD amount and all distributions are taxable.

I cashed in a lot of bonds in 2022. I got receipts from Wells Fargo. I wasn't expecting to get an actual 1099INT from WF but I did! If you didn't get a 1099 INT you just enter the total interest like a 1099 INT and put the amount in box 3. Yes the interest is taxable for federal but usually not for state.

I updated my S/W with the 22Jan version and went to the 1099-R section. When it pulls last year's info, it shows a "Needs Review" button, but it is nearly impossible to click on that line to edit. By random clicking, I can get it to come up, but very inconsistent. Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks!
