It is automatic based on your age. It is not part of your Standard Deduction. The new Senior Deduction is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. The 6,000/12,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. Turbo Tax automatically includes it if you qualify. For Online version you can preview the 1040 https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/accessing/help/how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-f... The maximum deduction is $6,000 for each person 65+. The phaseout is 6% of the amount by which MAGI exceeds $75,000 for single or $150,000 for married filing jointly (MFJ). The MAGI is normally the same as your AGI on 1040 line 11 but with some Foreign items from Form 2555 added back in. On a joint return the phaseout is calculated separately for each person, so the 6% phases out for each spouse. You can not get it if you file MFS Married filing Separate.

I used the Turbo Tax Deluxe for Windows Desktop. I came across the attached description while I was answering if I had medical insurance and if I was enrolled in a list of different insurances. I picked Covered California. And then the attached popped up. I printed it because I knew the 1095-A form was going to be needed..

Is line 8 on Schedule B checked "No" also? If it is not checked, go back and do a Federal Review. It should ask you a question about Foreign Trusts - just answer that "Yes" or "No" as appropriate and that should take care of the error you are seeing.

Thanks! That was a helpful tip on the IRA/Simple/SEP. For some reason “No” was preselected by TurboTax after I’d uploaded the 1099-R file (my custodian had it available for me to download directly but the feed to TurboTax isn’t available yet). I carelessly thought that question applied just to Simple/SEP situations and not traditional IRAs. So the QCD section worked after all. I thought I’d reached the summary table of 1099-R forms and there wasn’t anything after that but I’ll try again. Appreciate your assistance.

Turbo Tax is asking: What were your Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025?
After it asked if my Roth was open since 2011 (5 years)....I have no idea what the total contributions to my Roth have been over 20 years, and neither does my brokerage. The Learn More leads to Roth Conversion, nothing to do with this question. Help please, is this a bug?

If you filed using TurboTax Online, the Electronic Filing Instructions page will give that info.
Here's how to view the PDF copy:
Sign in to TurboTax and open your return.
On the Tax Home screen, scroll to Your tax returns & documents and select Add a State (don't worry, you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right area) to access your tax forms and worksheets.
In the menu, select Tax Tools, then Print Center.
On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year’s return.
On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2025 Federal return and Include government and TurboTax worksheets, then select View or print forms.
The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions, for your 2025 Federal Tax Return, next to Balance Due/Refund.

I am having this exact same problem now with Desktop Home & Business 2025! And it doesn't matter whether I put the gross distribution amount in box 16. I get the same error message. What is weirder is that the state tax withheld was accepted by the program which deducted my state tax balance by that amount! I don't see why I am getting this error message.

The impact is shown on the 1040: The new Sr. Std deduction is on line 12e of the 1040 (unless you have enough various deductions to itemize). And the new/separate $6000/$12,000 senior's income deduction is listed separately, and included on line 13b of the 1040....assuming you don't have huge income such that it gets phased out.

Recent software updates have fixed these issues, so you should be good to go.
