@ksangler for sure the instructions do not list every single question, but follow the on-screen questions. For sure it could be written better but want to make sure no misunderstanding on these points: "the top half (before TTax Online) second bullet, it seems we should only enter the non-deductible portion this year and need to wait for the 2026 1099-R to finish this process. But the desktop interview does not indicate that." - the desktop interview is asking you for contributions you made for 2025 (Step 1) and 1099-R's you received for 2025 (Step 2 under Wages & Income). If you did a split-year backdoor and did the contribution for 2025 before 4/15/26 you will not have a 1099-R to enter until next year. "All the non-deductible questions in the interview apply to 2024 (or prior) non-deductible contributions" - yes, this is to correctly record the basis carryover from 2024 to 2025 on 8606 Line 2. Your 2025 contribution to that basis is handled separately as the earlier question about contributions which goes to 8606 Line 1. The two add up on Form 8606 to your total basis on Line 3. "If your conversion contains contributions made in 2025 for 2024" refers specifically to checking that you filed 8606 correctly for the 2024 tax year when you filed last year. Yes you can substitute for 2025/6 for 2024/5, but that 8606 filing process is what you are doing in Step 1 of this guide.

@doriopsilla The TurboTax online editions do not use a license code. The TurboTax desktop editions are totally separate from the online editions. And they have separate price points.

Because it is over $500, it is required. Just do a good estimate. As long as it is higher than the Fair Market Value, it won't actually affect the deduction, so just give an estimate.

So, if restricted to “AL residency” timespans, for AL state mortgage interest, I can replicate the federal tables for the months as an AL resident, and compute the avg balance & 750K limit ratio for those months, and then apply to interest paid during those months. This would include mortgage values and interest for both the AL house bought, and the out-of-state house (sold in Nov) for these AL residency months. Correct? Any mortgage points or origination fees paid during AL residency timespans should also be included. And any unamortized/unused points from the sale of out-of-state primary residence should also be included as the closing sale occurred during AL residency. Correct?

A Code J in Box 7 on Form 1099-R indicates an 'Early Distribution of a Roth IRA, no known exception.' If you don't select any of the exceptions presented, it should be taxable in your return on Form 1040, Line 4b. You could delete/re-enter the 1099-R, and if imported, enter it manually. Make sure the IRA box is checked.
You may want to verify your Birth Date in the Personal Info section.

Yes, it means the source is FL - but Florida doesn't have income tax, so entering it will just confuse the program. You are correct to leave those all those boxes blank. @1597980

I apologize but this is the curse of HSAs - they lend themselves to such convoluted situations that one can easily make a mistake.
OK, ignore what I said about making a 1099-SA with a distribution code of '2'. Since, as you pointed out, the original excess of $1,450 was not withdrawn in a timely manner, you can't do a 1099-SA with code '2' later.
As I noted above (but have trouble remembering all the details), the only way to cut off the carry over of the excess after the original due date is to do a "normal" distribution (code '1'). The problem is that you DID withdraw that $5,000 but you can't use it as a withdrawal of excess contributions (code '2') because it was done too late.
However I may have another alternative. The IRS allows you to withdraw money in a "normal" distributions to repay your self for otherwise unreimbursed medical and dental expenses that you have incurred since the HSA was created.
Do you have any medical or dental expenses that you incurred since the date you created the HSA (generally the date the first dollars landed in the account) that you paid for out of pocket? Then you can apply part of the $5,000 to those expenses. You need to document this in case anyone ever asks. And if you do this, you will need to tell TurboTax when you enter the 1099-SA that part of the distribution was for qualified medial expenses. When TurboTax asks, tell it how much of the 5,000 was for qualified medical expenses. In this case, TurboTax will add only the difference to Other Income.
The preceding is clearly in the IRS rules; however, the IRS has been vague about withdrawing money for a future medical expenses. Is next month OK? 3 or 4 months? Not clear.
But if you have a medical expense that you might do shortly, you can add this to the medical expenses number when you enter the 1099-SA. But you will have to document (for your own tax files) which expenses you are applying to this distribution. This might motivate to stop putting off new glasses or contacts or getting that new crown.

So then, if I have five different PC with Win11, I can download TTax 2025 onto to all five using the same license code. I have it on my Win11 PC. I was trying to help my dad load it on his PC but he has Win10, so that won't work. But then he can't use the same license code for a TTax Online account either. Is that correct?

Did you enter any personal-use days, either in 2024 or 2025? Has it always been 100% rental (with no personal days) since it was first "placed in service"?

My RMD from 403b and 457 should be considered as IRA distributions, right? But the amount appeared in 5b in 1040 as pensions instead of 4b as IRA distributions. Is it wrong?

Sorry if you bought the Desktop program and have a License Code and had to use it for the Online version you only get 1 federal and state returns. Online is only good for 1 return per account. You can start another return in TurboTax Online by: Logging out if you are in your account Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online Create your account screen Set up a new login for the second return Start working on the new return Turbo Tax Desktop to Online Migration Offer https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/marketing/ty25-ttd-direct-offer/L0aUgksJd_US_en_US "Offer includes one Tax Year 2025 federal return and one state tax return filed using the TurboTax Online" If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. The Online versions don't have all the same forms so you might have to upgrade to a higher Online version. You can only do 1 return per account. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

Each tax return has to have its own account in TurboTax Online. On the sign in page, you will need to select Create New Account and create a separate distinct user ID for your son.
