PK.... Thank you very much for your condolences and prayers and for your response to my questions. So if I'm understanding this correctly for efiling signing purposes I would create a PIN for my father and use his DOB.  For "Additional ID verification" I would use my father's ID.     I'm guessing that the IRS would know that I'm efiling and signing his return since I filled in my name as "Care of Representative" and filled in his date of death.   No other information from me would be necessary to efile his 1040-SR. He has an amount due this year so the form 1310 is not needed.  However, I would probably need to complete a Form 1310 for next year (2026) which would be his final tax year to report any income he earned up until his passing.  Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my questions.

File your return by mail and let the IRS sort out the duplicate use of your dependents SSN.   Print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it in.   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.         Or use an IP PIN to try to e-file. GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-takes-steps-to-help-prevent-refund-delays-by-accepting-duplicate-dependent-returns-with-an-ip-pin-for-2025-filing-season-taxpayers-encouraged-to-sign-up-soon-for-ip-pin-online-account     https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin

Depending on how long ago you mailed it, it could be sitting in an unopened mailbag at the tax department. Check its website or call, but if in a mailbag, they won't know they got it. The worst-case scenario is that it got lost in the mail. Important documents should always be sent using a tracking service.

There are already Windows computers that will not run the Current version of TurboTax (2025). Good luck going forward. Any new ARM based windows computer such as a Microsoft Surface Pro with an ARM processor will not run TurboTax or H&R blocks, I have been told.

Going forward---the way to know if a mailed tax return was received is to use a service with tracking such as certified mail so you will know the return was received.   It takes longer for a mailed return to be processed but you can track it on the state site:   To track your state refund:       ttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0

because of % depletion, which is limited based on the gross but limited to the net. you also get to choose between cost depletion under IRC 612 or percentage depletion under IRC 613A. I don't think Turbotax computes either depletion allowance. Also, the iRRS wants to see what makes up those expenses.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities,  There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.  Some states process returns quickly and some are very slow.   STATE RETURN Make sure your state return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   To track your state refund:       ttps://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0
Then you don’t enter anything about it on your tax return.   Nowhere.

I also just wanted to give someone a shout out since I did not receive an option for feedback. Pamela R. She was so patient and helpful while we tried to figure out why TurboTax online wasn't accepting my military W2. She was awesome. I hated to bother her, but she was reassuring I wasn't. Overall, such a great experience with an agent. I was grateful because of how frustrating these issues can be sometimes, yet she made it great for me.
Thanks so much for the help.   I did not get a check or a 1099R.   My bank just moved it from my old 401k to their Trad IRA.   By the way, I love old Volvos!

You will still get the refund from the first original return or still need to pay the first tax due.  In fact you should not even amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.     Then the amended 1040X return is only for the difference you get back or owe.  I think the cover sheet shows what the original return WOULD have been if you did it right the first time.  Ignore the new 1040 that might print out.   Go by the actual 1040X.  Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund.  If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16.  If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

Hello!   The Room and Board functionality for desktop was fixed at the end of February.     Start by selecting the 1098T section from the Deductions/Credits section   It sounds like you have already entered your student so you hopefully come to the Education Summary Tab.  If so, the select the pencil on the right to edit.  Answer the next 5 questions (and ensure you pick you have educational expenses other than tuition) and get to the 1098T section.   Again, if you have your 1098T's entered, select the pencil to edit or if you have not entered one yet, add one.  as before answer all the questions and fill in the details of the 1098Ts.   Once you have done this and have all the 1098Ts in (and if you had one before, just edit via the pencil and reconfirm the entries), then select continue.   This should take you to a screen that says time to enter XXX educational expenses and now you should see 6 fields including Room and Board.

The Schedule H form has my name "First Mi Last" in the business name entry ------->  Right corner, my SSN next line --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->  Business EIN (xx-xxxxxxx)   My IRS business EIN was issued under: Business Name Then under that :  My  FULL name:   "First Middle Last : MBR" (MBR for partner membership)   So, Turbo Tax never asks for my business name, it just "assumes" it is my name by default, and places it in the business name entry, as it is listed in the personal information section. TurboTax should create the Schedule H by asking for the business name.  This is an obvious error on Intuit's program.  I can't remember if this was my situation last year, but the Sch-H was created the same way in 2024 and 2023. Thanks for the input !!

@Mrdovecourt1108 , I may be wrong ( so please forgive if true ), but it seems to be  that (a) you have filed a return that was accepted for processing and (b) without waiting for that process to complete ( see IRS "Where is my Refund" -- WMR ), you have a need  to amend the filed return ( because of new info ).    Turbo has no knowledge  that your refund  has/ has not been issued -- it  therefore assumes that it is so.  Thus the figure that you see is based  on that the refunds have been issued.    Generally it is strongly recommended that you wait till the original return has been processed ( and refund issued ) before you file an amended return.   Is there more one of us can do for you ?

Beyond me why your company whose name suggests intuition or intuitive, sells software that is everything except intuitive.  I have already spent an hour after an easy purchase from Amazon -- an hour to get past the several roadblocks to enter the activation code.  Now that my activation code seems to be entered, seems bering the operative and intuitive word, the software does not open.  It splashes another screen where you Intuitive predators are trying to get me do something else.  -- like go online? or purchase something else -- I am not entirely sure.  You won't have to convince me to Not use your product next year.  I am as convinced as possible that any other tax prep software cannot be as difficult as yours.
