That situation bothers me and I think you, the church, and the 501(c)(3) need to have a chat to a tax attorney.   If the housing is provided as a condition of your employment (you would lose the housing if you left the church) then it is some type of compensation, and is not simply a non-taxable gift from the 501(c)(3).  The question then is it fully taxable or is it eligible to be treated as a parsonage.   An AI search suggests that the church must own the parsonage, but the actual federal regulation does not specify that.  Looking at some legal sites that explain the parsonage issue, they mainly focus on explaining how the parsonage allowance works in comparison to a church-owned parsonage, but assume the church owns the parsonage and don't discuss what happens when the parsonage is provided by someone else.  https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-26/chapter-I/subchapter-A/part-1/subject-group-ECFRb467872627553f1/section-1.107-1   However, if you also perform work for the 501(c)(3), then the parsonage is not excludable from income unless all your duties for the 501(c)(3) meet the same rules as your duties for the church must meet.  ("Ministers have the authority to conduct religious worship, perform sacerdotal functions, and administer ordinances or sacraments according to the prescribed tenets and practices of that church or denomination.")  Remember that employees of secular organizations who receive housing as an employee benefit must almost always include the value in their wages unless they meet certain narrow criteria.     Ultimately, you may need your own expert advisor who can learn more about this 501(c)(3), what your relationship is, what duties you perform for them (if any), and offer an expert opinion tailored to your situation.      https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-publication-517

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. On a personal tax return, if the Standard Deduction is used, there may be no benefit to deducting Medicare premiums, and long-term care premiums as itemized deductions.    There will be no problem if you do post them.  TurboTax will calculate the difference and determine if the Itemized or the Standard Deduction is right for you.   Additionally, medical expenses are only deductible if you itemize on Schedule A and they exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).   Different rules may apply if you are self-employed.

MY DEPENDENT SAID HE COULD NOT BE CLAIMED   Your dependent made a very common mistake often made by teenagers and students who are filing their first tax returns.  In MY INFO they should have said that they can be claimed as someone else’s dependent—-but they answered incorrectly and now your e-file is being rejected.   Your dependent will have to amend their return to change the way they answered that question in MY INFO.   They cannot amend until their return has been fully processed.   But you do not have to wait for them to amend.  Waiting will not help you at all.   You can file your return by mail, since mailed returns are not rejected.   It will take longer for the IRS to process your mailed return and delay your refund.   OR….Get an IP PIN to e-file.     GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-takes-steps-to-help-prevent-refund-delays-by-accepting-duplicate-dependent-returns-with-an-ip-pin-for-2025-filing-season-taxpayers-encouraged-to-sign-up-soon-for-ip-pin-online-account     https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin

No--the little bar in TurboTax is not in sync with the IRS.  TurboTax receives no information from the IRS after you file your return.  The little bar in TT is only "tracking" that 21 days have nearly elapsed. Yes.  In order to check the box asking if you lived abroad, you would have had to live abroad. Meaning, you would have had to establish a tax home in one of those countries and meet the definition of a resident for that country.  If you were simply traveling and maintained your US home, this does not count as living abroad.    On the SS benefit worksheet where the taxable amount is calculated, a box is checked saying you lived abroad in those particular countries or are a citizen of Italy which then makes your SS tax exempt.

Please note that the state system may not reflect updates right away and might display “no record fund” even after the return has been accepted. This can happen during peak tax season, and that can delay status reporting.   If you received an email from TurboTax which says “Action Needed,” go back to your account, and in the Tax Home page, click on "Add State" (you‌ aren't adding one; this just gets you back to your return), select Fix my Return. Then fix the rejection error and resubmit. If you cannot fix it, you may need to choose "file by mail" to submit your return.

Ordinary traditional IRA contributions are entered under Deductions & Credits -> Retirement and Investments  -> Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions.   TurboTax changed the name of the SEP contribution section slightly because the SECURE 2.0 Act changed the tax code to allow Roth SEP contributions, which are not deductible, in addition to traditional deductible SEP contributions.  Only the name was changed.  Traditional SEP contributions are entered the same as they have always been.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

If you are not using TurboTax Expert Assist you can follow these steps: Follow these steps to downgrade to a different TurboTax Online product: Open your return if you haven't already. In the left menu, select Switch Products. Select Downgrade. You can remove TurboTax Live as long as you haven't used the Tax Expert feature. Here's what to do: With your tax return open, select File. Proceed through the screens until you reach the Just a few steps left... screen, then select Start or Revisit next to Step 1: Review Your Order. On the order summary screen, select Downgrade. If you don't see Downgrade or already used the Tax Expert feature, you can clear your return and start over as long as you haven’t paid yet. After clearing your return, you can select the TurboTax product that best suits your needs. Keep in mind: If you want to receive help from a tax expert, you’ll need to use TurboTax Live.
