I purchased some inventory from one of my wholesalers that had a "buy A, get B free" promotion. How do I account for the items I got for free? (I've not yet sold them). Would I simply increase my year-end inventory value by the value of the items? If so, would it be based on their wholesale or retail value?

I can enter SS into my Windows Home & Buisness program. If you click on Visit All by Retirement Plans and SS you do get the message This section will be ready soon. But you can click on the next line down by Social Security to enter SS. I never use the Visit All button. And interest is working ok. Have you updated your program? Go up to Online-Check for Updates.

@DapperCat wrote: (Total_doubletime_pay/2) = Qualified overtime. The current IRS interpretation of the law is that only the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) required 50% is deductible. That means the double-time would be divided by 4. For example, normal pay is 100%. The required FLSA is 50%, which is deductible. And your employer double-time is paying another 50%, but that is not required under the FLSA so that is NOT deductible. Be aware that the rules are only hours in excess of 40 hours count as overtime. I think California also requires overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day, but that does not qualify for the overtime deduction unless it also results in over 40 hours during the week.

I am trying to link my Credit Karma Mony Spend account to my turbotax account. The dialog box comes up as I am no the same person. Do I need to link the same email address? I have obviously the same name and social security number, but the computer keeps saying that I am a different person on the two seperate accounts. I have been a turbo tax user with the same username since 2006.

If I remember correctly, when you tell TurboTax that you sold the business there will be a followup question (or maybe a checkbox) asking if you received payments over more than one year (or in later years). That will allow you to choose to use the Installment Method on Form 6252 if you want to do that. If you have the proper information about the depreciation in TurboTax, it should handle the depreciation automatically when you report the sale, including using the Installment Method. *IMPORTANT*: Although I think the program will handle it automatically, if it does ask you questions about it, the deprecation on your real estate results in "Unrecaptured Section 1250 Gain", most likely *NOT* "recapture". They are treated VERY differently. The "Unrecaptured Section 1250 Gain" will be taxed as you receive payments from the Installment Sale.

It is automatic based on your age. It is not part of your Standard Deduction. The new Senior Deduction is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. The 6,000/12,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. Turbo Tax automatically includes it if you qualify. For Online version you can preview the 1040 https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/accessing/help/how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-filing/00/26160 The maximum deduction is $6,000 for each person 65+. The phaseout is 6% of the amount by which MAGI exceeds $75,000 for single or $150,000 for married filing jointly (MFJ). The MAGI is normally the same as your AGI on 1040 line 11 but with some Foreign items from Form 2555 added back in. On a joint return the phaseout is calculated separately for each person, so the 6% phases out for each spouse. You can not get it if you file MFS Married filing Separate.

If you took the Standard Deduction last year then your state refund is not taxable and you don't have to enter it. I don't know why you got a 1099G. You have to ask the state. But they are suppose to send you a 1099G if you got a state refund. But a lot of states are not sending it. I guess you are suppose to get it from the state's website. You don't need a 1099G. You should know if you got a state refund last year and the amount.

This it technically wrong, but ... many people in your situation don't file it. There will be a penalty for filing an incomplete 1099. Many people choose to not file the 1099 when they don't have the information and take the risk of maybe getting a penalty if the IRS notices. But you need to be sure to answer the questions truthfully about 1099s on Schedule E. In the future, always get a W-9 filled out BEFORE you pay a contractor.

How did you finish early? You can't enter the 1099R yet. And you have to report ALL your income on the same tax return. How old are you? You didn't actually pay the tax or the 10% penalty (you pay a 10% early withdrawal penalty if you are under 59 ½). You had taxes withheld like from your paycheck. You still have to enter the whole gross amount (before taxes were withheld) with your other income to figure out the total tax (and it may put you into a higher tax bracket and can reduce any credits) and then the withholding is subtracted from the total tax to figure your refund or tax due. The Gross amount shows up on 1040 line 4a or 5a and the taxable amount on 4b/5b. The withholding will show up on 1040 line 25b.
