Which transcript are you looking at, the tax return transcript or the account transcript?   If you are looking at your tax transcript this will just show you how your tax information went.  The account transcript will show you where your money went.  So, in reality, based on the tax transcript you did get your full refund.  But, the account transcript would show "we used your refund to pay your bills "(in your case your husbands obligations).  So it was just paid to someone else on your behalf and you still "benefited from it by lowering your debt"    If you filed a joint return with your spouse, they do not do any type of investigation to see who earned the money.  When you file a joint return, you are both considered equally liable and the refund is equally both of yours (not 50/50 but you are both 100% entitled to it). This is where they put the burden on the tax payer to prove otherwise with filing either the innocent spouse form or injured spouse form.    You will mail your injured spouse form to the same address that your original return went to.  You can find this here.  The state you live in determines where your return is processed.  This again can take several months to process.        For Indiana you would fill out IN-40PA to claim injured spouse.  It may take several months for them to process your claim.    Your federal income tax return, Form 1040 or 1040-SR, for the applicable tax year(s); All W-2 Forms, 1099 Forms and any other income statements or forms showing the amount of state and county income tax withheld for both spouses; A detailed letter explaining the sources of your and your spouse’s income, deductions, credits and any additional information relevant to computing your and your spouse’s individual tax liabilities; and A copy of the Indiana income tax return and all schedules for the applicable year(s). Complete the form and mail or fax to: Indiana Department of Revenue Returns Processing and Operations/Injured Spouse P.O. Box 7207 Indianapolis, IN 46207 Fax: 317-615-2697 Submitting a claim as an injured spouse does not guarantee that DOR will restore part of your tax refund. DOR will investigate the matter and reallocate any tax refund due accordingly.

CAN AN EXPERT PLEASE RESPOND TO MY QUESTIONS, SO I CAN FINISH MY RETURN? THANKS. Hello community. First, I was able to correct a field in the software asking for the total end of year value (12/31/25) for MY IRAs. This was asked because I took a non-required distribution from one of MY IRAs and converted it to a Roth IRA.  I was able to finally get a value which included (1) IRA and (2) annuities in my name.  I assume this amount the software is asking for would only be for IRAs in MY name, not my wife's (we file jointly)??    My second question is concerning another 1099-R I received from my broker, when I rolled over my previous 401 work plan to one of the Traditional IRAs with my broker.  Even though it is not a taxable event, do I have to list the 1099-R in the software?  I assume so, but this time the software never asks if I rolled it over, just if it's a SEP or if NO taxable amount is listed in box 2 of the 1099-R.  I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly.    Lastly for a federal energy tax credit, I replaced both a gas water heater and upgraded electrical service to 200amp from 100amp.  Can I take the ENERGY tax credit on the water heater if the manufacturer says it's Energy Star Certified, but has no Energy Star STICKER on the outside of it? The unit has an energy efficiency rating of 62%, but not equal to or greater than 81%.  I also should be able to take the credit towards the electric panel upgrade.  PLEASE ADVISE.

The problem was completely different from what I thought it was.  I had grossly overestimated our Adjusted Gross Income.  Took a lot of research to see how I should have done it.  It would be really nice to have such a "calculator" available so users could see how it works.  Would have saved me a lot of trouble.  Thanks for your response.
I select 'assets' but then it asks for depreciation info that does not make sense.

Your 403(b) contributions are reported on your form W-2 in box 12 with code E.   They are excluded from your taxable wages reported in box 1 of your form W-2. So your taxable income has already been reduced by the amount of your 403(b) contributions, just by entering your form W-2.   You do need to enter them anywhere else on your tax return.

I technically did still have self only HDHP coverage every month of the year, just couldn’t contribute because I got covered by spouse’s FSA. Still fine to do it as you’re saying?

This fixed my issue as well.  This question about living abroad could be improved by defaulting to NO at that represents the significant majority.  I can also in Vision a revised statement.
The latest update to the desktop version has added the uncommon situation after entering your W-2 that asks if there are any tips reported in box 1 but not in box 7 or 14.
