No, there is not a way to transfer the desktop purchase to TurboTax Online.
Yes you can take the product back to Costco and they should provide a full refund even with an opened box. This is the fastest way.
However, if they do not, Intuit offers a 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee for all desktop products purchased at retail.
Go to the Intuit Refund Request page.
You will need to provide your Costco receipt and the license code from the box.
Intuit will typically mail you a check for the purchase price.

You will still get the first original full refund (and keep it) or need to pay the first tax due. You should not amend or change your return until you get the refund from the original return or your payment has cleared. The amended return will only be the difference you get back or need to pay. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 21 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16 (but don't include any penalty on 1040 line 38). If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20. The amended return is only for the difference you get back. Like if you paid $500 tax due on the original return and with the changes you only would have owed $300 then you only get a $200 refund on the 1040X. But if the amended return would have changed your original tax due into a refund then you would get the amount you paid back plus the new refund. Go by the actual 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16. If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20. Ignore any 1040V voucher that prints out and the new 1040. Those are what your return would have been if you had not needed to amend.

What tax year? 1040X for 2025 is not yet available, and if you amended a past year return you cannot e-file it. You have to file it by mail.
Use a mailing service like certified mail to track so you will know it was received since you will have a long wait.
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
You can watch for information here:

When you say W-2 box 10 is blank, are you looking at the W-2 in TurboTax, or at the W-2 you got from your employer? You have to check what's entered in TurboTax.
We haven't actually determined whether the problem is the W-2 or the interest, or something else. You won't know for sure until you look at the Form 1040. Bit check your interest entries in TurboTax and make sure they are accurate.
Another thing you can try is to go back to your W-2 in TurboTax. Delete the imported W-2 and re-enter it manually. See if that eliminates the problem. I know that's not ideal, but it only takes a few minutes and it often resolves a problem. Sometimes strange unexplainable things happen with imported forms. If you imported interest income, Form 1099-INT, try re-entering that manually also.

@user17697402320 For some other imports...from other brokerages (fidelity and Vanguard at least)...you do have to accept a strangely-worded Pop-up bout allowing access to your device: ________________________________ From user Doug34: "I initially ran into the same problem described by others here. The Intuit website declares success, but TurboTax doesn't get the document. In my case this was caused by the fact that I denied the Intuit site permission to access my local network. Choose Allow, and you should be fine. If you already denied permission, you will be stuck until you reset this permission. In Chrome on Windows, you can do this by clicking on the View Site Information icon just to the left of the address bar. Turn on Local Network Access and try again. This solved the problem for me."

Disagree, we have not heard from all the users who do not use this forum. I believe that you are underestimating the impact. In addition, next year cash contributions become a nonitemized deduction. Therefore, more users will be relying on a program that can track donations, particularly users that make donations to multiple charities. A good software program should increase functionality year to year, not reduce it.

If you've completed the 2024 amended tax return in TurboTax,
You can E-File from the software,
Or you can mail the return to the taxing agency.
When going through the Fill process:
You can select File by Mail instead of E-file.
You will have to print your returns
Both Federal and State.
You will get instructions for mailing.
Your Federal tax return goes to a different location depending on the state that you live in. See this list to determine the location for you.
Where to File Paper Tax Returns (irs.gov)
You can also find where to mail state returns in your State website.

Hello! Filing Head of Household. Earned Income was $67,777.00. On the IRA Contribution Worksheet, I list my (Roth) Ira contributions, line 19 as $7800. It's my regular contribution. The remaining $200 went into an IRA. For the record, I did about $20K in Roth Conversions in 2025. $7800 is populating correctly down to line 27, Total Roth Contributions = $7800. However, moving down to line 30, it's listing this contribution as excess. On the Roth Contribution Limit Worksheet, it doesn't populate at all. On the IRA Deduction Worksheet, the $7800 is listed as my contribution. Does that IRA/Roth conversion inflate my income enough that I don't qualify for Roth contributions? It's causing $468 in taxes. I can still take it back, but I'd prefer not to. What am I doing wrong to cause my contributions to be switched to Excess? Thanks

If your State of Legal Residency (SLR) is SC, and you are located in GA due to military orders, you will need to file a SC state return to claim your military wages. Since you're a military spouse, you would not be subject to GA state income tax and would report your wages earned in GA on your SC state return instead (assuming you meet the requirements for MSRRA). You will need to make sure you indicate that you're a military spouse exempt from GA state tax on your Form G-4 that you filled out when you were hired. If not, your employer may withhold GA state taxes when they shouldn't have.
The following are some helpful links that give additional info on military residency and pay:
What's my military state of residence?
What's my state of residence as a military spouse?
Where can I find state information on filing my return as an active duty military member?
