I am a US citizen and we will be filing married, jointly. Her brokerage is giving her a 1040-S and refuses to issue a 1099 even though she became a permanent resident during the middle of last year. Her employer is only reporting her income after she became a resident and we intend to report her investment income starting on that date too.  I don't believe her 125 days as a permanent resident meets the 183 day threshold required for the entire year tax liability. We can agree to disagree. We intend to follow this advice for reporting investments: "To report interest/dividends as a resident alien without a 1099, you must manually calculate the amounts from bank/brokerage statements for the period after you became a resident, report them on Schedule B (Form 1040) if over $1,500 total, and use Form 1040 for your U.S. return, understanding that you report all income from the date you became a U.S. resident for tax purposes."   My original question was how do we report capital gains and interest and dividend income only earned after the date she got her Green Card and became liable for US income taxes? My initial approach, since the brokerage refuses to give us a 1099 from August to December, is to take a corresponding percentage of interest, dividends and capital gains from the year end statement and input them into TurboTax. Or, if the numbers for the entire year are very low, just use what's on the statement. What do you think? Thanks.

True...as @VolvoGirl  said, since you e-filed the Fed part already, you won't be able to E-file the state until after the IRS accepts the Federal file... And the IRS has indicated they will be starting to accept files starting the week of 26 January  (except for some few early test files).   Since there will be millions of tax files waiting for processing, yours could be dealt with any time in the ~10days after the 26th (one year they encountered some problems and stopped entirely for awhile).   In any case, once the Nebraska forms are finalized, make sure you go thru the NE state questions, form start to finish, to deal with your county problem, and answer any other new questions the software might throw at you.

@Seafarer2026 ,  If the contractor ( service provider ) is living abroad, not a US person and your entity is a US entity ( sole proprietor, LLC etc. etc. ) you do not issue a 1099 to the foreign  person.  While it shows as an expense  on your books ( and your  / entity tax return ), the foreign person does not pay any US taxes on this income ( the work is performed abroad by a resident of that country ) -- it is not US sourced income for the recipient.   Is there more I can do fore you ?

But the fact remains that TTX software folks indicate the software won't be ready for 1099-R forms until 21 January.  (I likely won't try until 22 Jan).   The SS forms are NOT 1099-R forms, they have an entirely different box format and are called SSA-1099 and never 1099-R.   Yes, simple entry of the data from the 1099-R forms could likely be accomplished now....BUT Unlike the SSA-1099 forms, the 1099-R forms have a bunch of required follow-up questions about QCDs amounts or whether some, or all of the $$ were transferred to another Retirement account, and thus non-taxable unless transferred to a ROTH acct  from a std account, or whether or not the RMD minimum was met....etc... Unless those follow-up questions (and any others) get recorded properly, if not dealt with properly in the software, they  can royally mess up your tax return.  Thus, no entry of the 1099-R data is being allowed until all those situations work flawlessly.   In addition, even if the IRS has the final 1099-R formats finalized, each of the Software Companies must test the transfer of the data from those forms to the IRS computers, and get approval from the IRS software folks that the data is being transferred properly to the IRS computers.   Could the TTX software folks get the 1099-R form entries working quicker...maybe maybe not.  But they have a date they expect to have them ready (21 Jan) and thus, we all wait (some aggravated...some just shrug)

@Maggiecp2 , if I am reading your situation correctly : (a) your income is reported to you on 1099-NEC (b) you do not have a W-2 and not an employee somewhere   In such a case , 1099-NEC incomes are NOT reported under wages. These are treated as self-employment / sole proprietor based income.  Thus are reported on Schedule-C -- gross income ( shown on 1099-NEC) ,  allowable expenses associated with this  income stream are deductible before computing the net income .   On this income you pay taxes and also  Self-Employment  Taxes ( Social Security & Medicare taxes at 15.3% of about 92 % of net income ).   In TurboTax , select "1099-NEC" in come category and it will walk you through filling out the  proper forms and schedules. Is there more I can do for you ?
I cannot find it while filing.
They have NOT improved for 2025.  TT Deluxe claims to import prior year pdf from HR but DOES NOT.  Only for HR 2008-2013.. HA.  Not the 2024 taxes.

I did see on a post where you can switch to Forms view and manually fill in the 1099R sections, with the caveat that you will have to verify them using the regular software steps, once the upgrade is released.  Kind of kludgy, but I was abet to at least get a decent approximation of my tax liability today, rather than next week.  I would not file my taxes using the forms approach only.  FWIW.
