Assuming you are referring to Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions:   TurboTax is limiting the fields in which you can make changes in Forms Mode if the field involves a calculation. The preferred way to make changes is to go back to Step-by-Step (Easy Step in Mac) and revisit the Charitable Donations questionnaire.   See also this TurboTax help article for information about the new fair market valuation (FMV) tool that helps you price your charitable donations if you’re itemizing your deductions.   Overriding a calculation in TurboTax is generally not advised and could affect your Accurate Calculation Guarantee.

Solution:   Do not allow any boxes to remain blank!  Put in zero even if previous years TurboTax has allowed it to remain blank or if the tax form from Fidelity Investments is actually blank.   TurboTax (the program, not the online version) requires all fields to be filled in before it will accept the form imported from Fidelity Investments.

I’m running into this exact issue and it’s clearly not user error at this point. I’m using the desktop version of TurboTax, fully updated (no updates available). This is not a browser issue.   Exact flow where it breaks: 1. Click “Done with Deductions” 2. It launches “Maximizing your deductions and credits” 3. Then shows “Here are your 2025 deductions and credits” 4. Click Continue Immediately get: “Hmm, looks like we hit a snag. We recommend you revisit the last topic you were working on to make sure all your info's correct."     What I’ve already done: 1. Created multiple brand new returns 2. Tested with and without prior-year import 3. Entered only a single W-2 (also tested manual entry) 4. Skipped all deductions entirely 4. Reviewed Forms and cleared any flagged items   Same error every time.   Key point: This happens even on a completely clean return with minimal input, so this is very likely a software bug, not bad data. Has anyone found an actual fix, or does this need a patch?
There is no box to enter it when you get to that section.
Do I need a pin to receive the AGI information?

Hi Susan, Thank you for the response, but your guidance is not correct for this category of deduction, and it risks producing an inaccurate return. Civil rights legal fees are specifically listed in IRC §62(a)(20) and §62(e) as above‑the‑line deductions, not miscellaneous itemized deductions and not “negative income.” They are treated as adjustments to income, not as reportable income offsets. Using “Other reportable income” with a negative number is a workaround TurboTax sometimes suggests for miscellaneous adjustments, but it is not appropriate for statutory above‑the‑line deductions that Congress explicitly carved out. There are three major problems with the workaround you suggested: 1️⃣ It misclassifies the deduction Entering legal fees as “negative income” does not place them in the correct statutory category. Civil rights legal fees are not income adjustments by analogy — they are income adjustments by law. Misclassification can affect IRS matching and audit trails. 2️⃣ It bypasses the required Form 1040 line treatment These fees belong on the line for “Attorney fees and court costs for unlawful discrimination claims.” TurboTax failing to provide the correct entry field is a software limitation, not a change in the law. 3️⃣ It may cause IRS processing issues The IRS expects these fees to appear in the correct adjustment category. Entering them as negative income can trigger: • mismatch flags • questions about unreported income • requests for explanation A workaround should never create a compliance risk when the law is clear.   ✔️ Correct Principle Civil rights legal fees are above‑the‑line deductions by statute, and TurboTax should provide a proper entry path. A workaround that reclassifies them as “negative income” is not a legally accurate substitute. Turbo tax experts over the phone don’t even know what I am talking about . The software program lacks this feature . There is no solution expect go somewhere else.

I'm on a Mac but the only options is are Windows or I don't know.  So first question, how do I indicate I am on a MAC?   I'm using TurboTax Home and Business and I have housemates. TurboTax is set up from prior years for this. Where do I enter my mortgage interest information this year? There didn't seem to be a place with the property information itself. Do I enter it under Your 2025 Deductions and Credits->Mortgage Interest? Similarly with Property Tax? In various prior versions we were told specifically not to enter it there and it is indicating $0 for 2024 in that box which was not what was on my 2024 taxes that I imported.     Thanks!

Thank you! After a little confusion on my part I was able to use your suggested second option. Silly question..It appears that the software subtracted my basis from total IRA distribution (which was partial converted to Roth) to get the taxable amount. Is that the way it's supposed to work? My refund went up considerably after it did that. Again,  thank you for your assistance with this. Dave
