If you are getting the HSA_2025 rejection code when trying to electronically file your return, try using the following steps to clear the internal condition that is causing the rejection code. These steps have worked for some users to be able to refile with acceptance of their returns.
Also, please note that you should not check the box indicating that you are ‘covered by Medicare’ unless you are receiving Medicare benefits rather than having HDHP insurance coverage. This question is also asking about 2025, not 2026. So if you are covered by Medicare in 2026, this check box does not apply to you.
Use these steps:
Go to Deduction and Credits > Medical > 1099-SA, HSA, MSA and click Update
Continue through the HSA section until you reach the page that asks if you were covered by a High Deductible Health Plan in 2025 and answer according to your situation.
Next, check any appropriate boxes on the page that asks Do any of these situations apply to you? (This is where it is important to be accurate about whether you were receiving Medicare benefits during 2025).
The next page asks what type of HDHP coverage did you have in 2025. Check the box that says ‘I had different plan types at different times of the year’, then click Continue.
On the next page, select the type of coverage for each month of the year according to your situation. (If you were covered by Medicare in 2025, indicate that you had Medicare or None for any month you had Medicare coverage.)
Continue through the process to answer the same set of questions for your spouse, if applicable.
Keep clicking Continue until you are back at the main Deductions and Credits page.
At this point, you can go through the error check process and refile your return.

Make sure all updates have been run on your program. You can do this by clicking on "Online" in the black bar across the top of your TurboTax screen. And then select "Check for Updates".
You also check to see if you have 2 forms already downloaded. If you, do you can delete one, to do this:
Open or continue your return.
Switch to Forms Mode by selecting the Forms icon.
From the menu, select the form you want to remove.
After the form is generated in the right pane, select the Delete Form button.
Follow any onscreen instructions to remove the form or forms.
If you are having trouble importing your 1099:
Make sure you are selecting the correct entity, there are some entities that have similar names.
You also need to consider that both TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop support up to 10,000 of any combination of transactions and imports. If your file is larger, you will not be able to import it.
Check to see if your web browsers require permission to let a website send data to a program on your computer. See the following TurboTax help article for more information.
Make sure that your pop-up blockers are off.
Switch to a different browser.
Make sure that you enable third-party access to your brokerage account information.
If these do not work see the following TurboTax help article for more troubleshooting ideas:
What if I can't import my 1099?
How can I fix my 1099 import issue?
How do I delete a tax form in TurboTax Desktop?
If you have any additional questions or information regarding this please return to TurboTax Community and we would be glad to help.

I contributed $4,800 to a ROTH IRA in 2024 and wasn't eligible to contribute to a ROTH IRA in 2024 so the $4,800 was an over contribution. For my 2024 tax return I filed a form 5329 and paid the 6% penalty. For my 2025 tax return I am eligible to contribute to a ROTH IRA and contributed $1,800 in 2025. For the $4,800 in excess contributions I requested a excess contribution withdrawal from my account in March 2026. Since I already submitted the excess contribution withdrawal in 2026 I will need to pay the 6% penalty and file a form 5329 with my 2025 return as well right?

It is a violation of employment law for your former employer to report severance pay on Form 1099-NEC instead of Form W-2 for wages. Since this should have been W-2 wages, Social Security and Medicare taxes have not been paid on this income. Your employer should pay half, and the other half should have been withheld from your pay. However, by reporting the income on a 1099-NEC the employer is making you responsible for the entire amount of these taxes. You will file Form 8919 making a claim that the pay should have been wages, with the employer paying their half. Your half will be added to the taxes on your return. To enter this correctly, follow these steps:
1. Under the "Income" tab, 2. Scroll down to "Other Common Income" 3. "Show More" 4. "Start/Revisit" the 1099-NEC topic 5. After entering the form data, continue until you arrive at a page titled "Do any of these uncommon situations apply?" 6. Select the option that reads: your employer reported this income on a 1099-NEC, but it should have been on a W-2 7. Next select the option that reads you received a W-2 and 1099-NEC from this employer 8. The Form 8919 will generate and only your share of Social Security and Medicare taxes will be added to your return. Note: if you enter this without the correct selections, Schedule SE may inadvertently be added to your return, where the full 100% amount of self-employment taxes will be calculated on the income, instead of the lower 50% amount on Form 8919. You should print the PDF of your return before filing to make sure everything looks correct.

How do I add form 8853 Turbo tax Desktop Home and Business? E-file not working due to HSA 1095-A error. Aways been 1095-C, have never signed up for 1095-A insurance. The only difference I see in the forms is last year 2024 had generated form 8853p1 and this year 2025 does not. Maybe that will help.

There is no longer an actual tuition deduction, but there is a tax credit. As others have said, only the parson who claims the student as a dependent can claim the tuition credit (including the student herself if she is not a dependent, with some limitations).
However the person who does claim the student, as a dependent (usually the parent), may claim the money you paid when calculating the credit.
Although the general rule, in taxes, is that you must be the one making the payment, to get the deduction or credit, there is an exception for education.
