This method worked, but there was no way to name the refund? Any help on putting in that it's a NYS Inflation Refund?
Does itemizing charitable deductions, lower your state of California taxes?
This could be spelled out in the TurboTax program IMHO.  This FAQ section cleared things up nicely.

Your federal tax should not change from a KS exemption. You don't mention amending the federal. If you were simply amending KS but the federal changed, there could be tax forms in your return that have been updated since you filed. You will want to review your original return and compare it to the new return and look for differences line by line on all the forms.

When manually entering a stock sale, the transaction automatically defaults to Box C (Basis NOT reported to IRS). So how can a transaction be manually entered as a Box A transaction, or how can Box C be changed to Box A (Basis reported to IRS)?  The Capital Asset Worksheet does not appear to allow a change.

The Interest and Dividend information appears on the same page.  If you click Start or Update for Dividends on 1099-DIV, you'll get a screen "Let's finish pulling in your investment income".  Your interest reporting will be on that page, but you can click the blue + Add investments button, where the next screen will allow you to import date.  If you Skip Import, you'll get a screen to choose the type of investment using one of the five tiles for Interest, Dividends, Stocks, Bonds & Mutual, Funds, Digital Assets, or Other.

This is an incorrect answer for all cases -- Turbo Tax Deluxe will NOT let you enter real state taxes for a property after you entered the 1098 from the mortgager where the real estate taxes in box 10 is $0 because you don't pay into an escrow; the mortgager is not required by law to provide that if I paid it directly!  My easy workaround for this bug is I just "lied" and entered the actual tax amount on the 1098 entry, whatever!

it's hard to follow but if you have 5 copies there's a lot of linking needed in your return, Form 1116 is squirrelly.  Are you on desktop, hopefully you are and using Forms mode.  I would go back through the 1099-DIVs to make sure everything is linked to the right copy/column/country, and the foreign source income is provided.

I hit this error as well. I initially put my wife in as a full time student, but she was studying in another country. This apparently threw TurboTax for a loop. I tried deleting the student status worksheet, but it didn't actually delete. I wound up 'fixing' the problem by deleting the entire return and starting over again. The second time I just put her in as unemployed, didn't have any problems and got the same refund.   Before I did that, I tried asking their AI for help, but it just went around in circles telling me to fill in her health insurance enrollment in a section that didn't exist.

I tested this in TurboTax Online, and it worked by following these steps:   1. When you get to the screen in the Pennsylvania return that asks Do you want to let Pennsylvania calculate the penalty for you? select No.   2. The following screen will show the date that the tax will be paid. Select Continue.   3. The next screen asks for the 2024 PA Taxable Income and Tax Liability and tells you where on your 2024 PA return to find those numbers. After entering that information, select Continue.   4. The next screen asks Do you want to see if you qualify for any exceptions to the penalty? Select Yes then Continue.   5. The next screen asks for PA 2024 Tax Liability less withholding and certain credits and tells you where to find this on your 2024 PA return. Enter that number and select Continue.   6. Continue through the screens asking about estimated tax payments and enter any relevant information until you get to  the screen that asks Did you earn your Pennsylvania income unevenly during 2025? Answer Yes.   7. The following screen will allow you to enter your 2025 income by quarter.    The underpayment penalty will then be recalculated.
I just need to review it to see if I have more money for my return
Turbotax online submitted my Federal and State returns last year. They are asking questions from last year's return. I never received a copy of that return. They are the only one that has it.

many folks have reported some issue doing a new tax return and carryover.  Instead try Open Tax Return and open the .tax2024 file and it will trigger a transfer into a new return.

Yes, you will need to amend your 2024 tax return and switch the non-deductible traditional IRA contribution to an excess Roth contribution.  And, yes it will be subject to the 6% penalty, which is $420 on the $7,000 contribution.  This will also amend the Form 8606 for 2024 to show that it was not a non-deductible traditional IRA contribution.   Because you missed the filing deadline to make a corrective distribution for the 2024 contribution, and the funds were still in the account for all of 2025, you will also pay the 6% penalty for 2025 - the screenshot of the form 5329 that you sent is correct.   To avoid getting the 6% penalty for 2026, you can withdraw the original contribution of $7,000.  You won't have a 10% penalty on the distribution because of IRS ordering rules for Roth IRAs:  Contributions are the first funds to be withdrawn from the IRA and they are always free of taxes and penalties.  You'll get the 1099-R for that early in 2027 to report on your 2026 tax return.

When you set up the condo as a Rental Property in TurboTax, the rental property interview includes a question about passive losses carried over from prior years. Entering these losses here will allow TurboTax to apply available losses to your property basis when you sell the entire property.   In TurboTax Online, you'll find those questions under Less Common Situations at the bottom of the Rental Summary page for your property.    Additional Info: IRS Topic 425 - Passive Activities – Losses and Credits
