But they did have self employment income reported on a 1099K. So what if all their income is only cash and no 1099NEC or 1099K? And how do we know if the 7,000 tips is not included in the $55,000? They did get a 1099 but it might not be broken out.

I don't know why TurboTax doesn't like email for Support, but usually things boil down to a cost benefit. So I presume they prefer users have to resort to this community forum, or to phone TurboTax Support. Word is that the 1099-R capability became available this afternoon (1/21) for folks using Online TurboTax. So that's a good sign. Online updates are usually released right away. However, desktop updates can lag, since they may be bundled with other updates. That Retirement Income update "may" occur overnight tonight in the usual weekly update, or if not, then possibly Thursday or Friday.

It's 01/21/2025 and still no 1099R it seems. If you go to forms it is there, however, its calculations are totally INCORRECT.

Thank you for the response. I previously went into keychain access and cleared all encryption which didn't solve it. However, I did get it to work! I opened my old tax return in the 2024 version and selected duplicate. It was recommended I encrypt the file but I declined. This version was able to be uploaded into online. Hope this helps someone encountering the same issue.

I'm not a tax expert and can't comment about that alternate suggestion of calling it "interest." If it were me, however, I would definitely wait until the bank has either had time to either send a 1099 form or not send a form (they may not.) If I didn't receive one by/after January 31, I would phone the bank (or step in) to ask what their policy is about sending 1099 forms to their new customers who receive an opening bonus. That's bound to be a frequent question for them. I guess you could actually ask them now for info on what to expect, if anything. Anecdotally, I had an account opening bonus once that I reported under "Other Income" and entered a description using the steps provided above by @JohnB5677 . I don't remember if I received a 1099 form, but that was some time ago. It might vary from institution to institution. The original offer "terms and conditions" might have a footnote that says what the tax implication is.

MY RETURN IS IN PENDING—what does that mean?
You will not get any information from the IRS refund site while your return is in pending. The IRS does not have your return yet.
Did you e-file? Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?” If so, your return is now in “pending” on a server. Do not try to change anything while your return is in pending. On January 26 the IRS will begin to accept/reject e-files. The IRS accepts a FEW returns in test batches ahead of January 26—-but that is very random. Watch your emails—including your spam folder—for the notice about whether your e-file has been accepted or rejected. If your return is rejected you will be able to make corrections before re-filing. If the return you e-filed is accepted you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend it to fix any mistakes or omissions. It has been taking the IRS four to six months—sometimes longer—to process amended returns. If you e-filed your state return there will be another email later that tells you if the state was accepted or rejected.
WARNING: Do not try to change anything on your return while it is pending.
