Then I tried double clicking on the .tax2024 file and I get the same error saying the file is now on my computer error 190 If you are trying to do a transfer of 2024 data into 2025 software, you can try opening the 2024 data file with the 2025 software--not the 2024 software. The 2025 software can't do that, so you may then get an error notice such as "This is not a 2025 data file, would you like to transfer it instead." (or similar wording.) Or if you DO indeed want to open the 2024 data file for some reason, here's why you are likely getting Error 190: Error 190 usually means the *.tax2024 data file has a state return in it, but the 2024 program does not have the state software installed. Therefore, when TurboTax tries to open the 2024 file, it doesn't know how to handle the state information in the data file. Some more ideas….. Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2025 etc?And check the recycle bin and your backups. Do you use any backup programs? Check in One Drive, Drop Box, etc. It should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2025 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one. If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2025". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it. Don't know if this will help any Turbo Tax users but one Quicken user found them...... What I found was that my Quicken Data files ended up in the One-drive Recycle bin. Not sure how, but I found them there. I placed the files back onto the laptop and brought the files into Quicken and now have all my data back.

Here on April 15 , 2026, I have same TT PROBLEM of TT choosing to use the lower SD amount, instead of the higher ID amount. I have SD of 17750, yet have ID of over 50,000. I couldn't understand why TT was using SD. (Note: I NEVER click on the box to have the "SD override the use of the ID". So this is an error within TT, not human error.) Finally, after hours of research, I found this Message stream, see others with the problem, and see the work-around. I just did the work-around and it worked. But, in my case, I only had to uncheck the box ONE TIME in Forms > Info Worksheet, Part VI. I didn't find any "Close or Save" button. But when I left the Form and went to other forms, the change did save and spread to the 1040, etc.. So at least the change took place more easily than some have experienced. (Using desktop version of TT Mac.)

If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15. But remember any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh
.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst
If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
