Only certain paid tax pros  using professional tax software can e-file past year amended returns. You cannot e-file an amended return that you prepared yourself using TurboTax.  Your 1040X must be printed, signed and dated in ink, and then you need to mail it in.  Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it, since you will have a long wait for it to be processed.         NY does an effective job of scaring people into thinking they cannot file by mail.   New York prefers e-filed returns, but there are certain circumstances that make it necessary for you to file your NY return by mail and the state DOES allow mailed returns.    If you could not or did not e-file your federal return then your NY return cannot be e-filed.   It has to be mailed.   It is not possible to e-file any state return if the federal return was not e-filed and accepted by the IRS.   https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/efile/efile_mandate_for_individuals.htm https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/return_assembly_mail.htm

OK, I give up. on e-filing amended NY IT-201X 2024 return, even though I was allowed to do it in 2022 (Why???) So, my remaining question is TT shows an updated 1040 and IT-201 (with original taxes owed minus the amended refund) in addition to the amended 1040X and IT-201X, and I submitted these with the amended fed and state returns for 2022. Is there a reason why I should not submit the updated 1040 and IT-201 with the amended 1040X and IT-201X for 2024? I don't want the amended forms (with refunds) to be rejected because I didn't submit the updated original forms but if they're not expecting them, maybe I shouldn't? Thanks.

In the 2024 Business software, for Rental Real Estate deductions, under Other Deductions, I was able to put in my own entries at the bottom of the list, including the name and amount.  I don't see the same option in the 2025 software (Windows Business 2025).

I'm trying to enter my income information from the 1099Rs for 2025 Federal Return.  When I open that section of Turbotax Deluxe desktop version, I'm met with a message that reads in part: "This section is closed while we work on updates for recent tax law changes."  Is this message legit?  It's been up there for almost a week.  Does anyone know anything about this message and how much longer will it remain there?  Usually when there are updates, they are done before you start your work.  And usually these updates only take a few minutes, not days.  This message pertains to the income section, only and other sections are available.  Thanking you in advance.

Yes, you can report depreciation on your Rental Property assets under the Rental Expenses/Assets section of TurboTax Online.   Open your return and navigate to the Rental Properties and Royalty section under Wages & Income. Or you can use the magnifying glass to search for "Schedule E" and use the jump to link to go to the start of the rental section. Choose the property you need to work on or add another rental. After you set up or review your rental property information, continue to the page "Take a look at the expenses and assets..." Check the box under Assets that apply to this property (rental property, improvements, etc.).  This will add the Assets section to the page "Here's [property address] rental property info."  Click "Add expense or asset" if you need to enter new assets. Or click the pencil icon to the right of and asset under Assets to edit your depreciable assets. Continue through the interview to calculate depreciation for your rental property.   When you review and/or print your complete return, TurboTax includes a worksheet called "Form 4562 Depreciation and Amortization Report" that summarizes your assets and depreciation.   Additional information: Where do I enter income and expenses from a rental property? What kinds of rental property expenses can I deduct? How do I handle capital improvements and depreciation for my rental?
I'm seeing the same thing. Under the phaseout threshold, MFJ, it gives me a congratulations message with the value in green, but the value is $0.
Looks like it's available now. Shows up for me on the website!
I just received it today and I'm not able to find where to enter it, even under other income.

How can I find out what is causing the delay in processing?"   What is shown at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool when you select tax year 2024?  Is there any message? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund   Is there any more to the story, such as: During those last 10 months have you received any letters/notices from the IRS?  Had you tried to check on it before? How were you supposed to receive the Federal refund--by direct deposit to your checking account, a paper check in the mail, deposit to a Credit Karma or other prepaid card, etc.?      Did you have any TurboTax fees that you chose to pay out of your Federal refund?
I have court custody of one child and I am given permission to claim the other one since I have him/her more than half the year.

Don’t know where to find the adjusted gross income it’s asking for to be matched up, and also not sure of an accurate “residency end date” that it’s asking me to input. I moved out of my dad’s house and into my own apartment this year, is it just asking when I moved out? It also says I only listed one residency on my return, I don’t know where I’m supposed to input the other residency I moved out of?

Timing of filing an amended return using TurboTax was, at one time, critical. In prior years, you had to file by the extended due date (10/15) sometimes a few days later if your return was rejected.   See this Turbotax website regarding e-filing amended 2023-2025 returns. This seems to be a recent change. https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/e-file-1040x-amend-return/L9tXL1Nuh_US_en_US  Note, you are not the first to post that they can not e-file one of these years amneded return. 2025 - 1040-X won't be ready until Mid  Feb 2026 .
However, the entry of a 1099-R isn't available in the tax software, for a couple more days yet (supposedly)

The tax refund option is available. The option is hidden. Here is how you can get to it. (I know that this way works for online version)   1. When you get to the point where it asks, "Want your federal refund faster" You have to select the blue "No Thanks" button.       2. You should then be redirected to a page where you can select the "Tax refund advance" option.
