Thanks for the reply. We do meet all of the qualifications for receiving the additional deduction. It seems like this deduction should be listed by TurboTax in the deductions and credits summary and not require payment in order to determine if it has been properly applied.

If you opened your return after filing and changed even one small number (perhaps to "see what would happen" or to test a deduction) before clicking the "Amend" button, TurboTax now thinks that "changed" version is your original. When you then start the amendment, it pulls those "in-progress" numbers into Column A.   If you are certain you didn't touch the file before amending, it's possible there were software updates after the time you filed and before you amended. The new calculation (especially for complex credits like the Premium Tax Credit) might retroactively apply to your "Original" column, causing a mismatch with what you actually e-filed months ago.   To fix this, go into Forms Mode, open the 1040X Worksheet, and manually correct the figures in Column A to match your original 'as-filed' return. This ensures the software calculates the 'Change' (Column B) correctly based on the 'Correct Amount' (Column C)."   Since you received a letter from the IRS, they may have made the updates for you and are not requiring you to file a corrected amendment. Read the letter carefully for how they want you to proceed.   How to amend my return?   This thread might also be helpful: community thread

Helpful TurboTax Articles: What if I can't import my 1099? How can I fix my 1099 import issue? How do I import my 1099s? How do I enter a large number of stock transactions in TurboTax? If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.   To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings: Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu. Toggle the switch to ON. Refresh the page and attempt your import again. What do I do when my data isn't imported into TurboTax Desktop even though it says successful import in my browser? If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play: Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements. Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back. Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

I received an email from TurboTax last week that seemed to indicate the problem was corrected.  If it is still not working for you, I would suggest just using the NJ efile.  It is free.  I did that.  It is not as simple as TurboTax as you have to fill in the numbers, but you can just copy the numbers from your TurboTax NJ return.  Except, of course, for the taxable income number.  Subtract your Roth IRA withdrawal from that number that appears in the TurboTax NJ return.  Then you would get the correct taxable NJ income and you can calculate the correct NJ tax owed.

Last I checked there was no reasonable competitor to TurboTax. Pity. This is sufficiently aggravating that, given a choice, I would abandon all Intuit products. I was effectively forced to pay for a service I don't want and cannot use. Your proposed solution - to abandon the 5 hours of work I have put in getting this done and start again hoping I can find a hidden button I was unable to see when I first started using the program (yes, I did search for it and yes, I am technically savvy with computers) is wildly unreasonable.

I'm having nearly the same issue. I've paid and completed step 2 but when I try to finish step 3, the final screen just says its "in progress".  My tax preparer said on her end it says I'm not done with checkout and so she cannot file.  I've done this on my phone as well as my computer in multiple browsers, and the app - same result every time.  One thing to note is that near the end of the flow, the step right before "leave a review" for me is always a completely blank screen with a skip button which is concerning. I called support (which apparently is only tax people who have no clue what the issue is).   Given that I've already paid and nobody seems to be able to escalate and I have no recourse; its fairly absurd. Amusingly, on the next-to-last screen it says "review your experience" which links to a page that never loads.   While I agree that "problems happen", that part is fine and what help I have been able to find has been friendly, the fact that I can't get the help I need is the actual problem.   This is how you lose customers folks.
My filing status is the same and I filed timely last year.

Yes, what you are seeing is correct.  The code types are used to determine whether the 1099-R distribution for a Federally taxable retirement distribution can be exempt for Massachusetts income tax purposes.  Since your 1099-R distribution was not a Federally taxable distribution, then the type code would be blank along with the Pension amount in the Pensions and Annuities Smart Worksheet.   The Pensions and Annuities Smart Worksheet is a TurboTax function used to determine the Massachusetts tax-exempt amount of a Federally taxable pension and it does not appear on the actual Form 1 submitted to Massachusetts.  Your rollover from a traditional 401(k) to a traditional IRA would not be Federally taxable and would not figure into this worksheet.  If you had a Federally taxable distribution from a retirement plan that was from a Government retirement distribution, this worksheet would be used to report that as tax-exempt in Massachusetts.  Then the type would be filled out along with the Pension Amount subject to Federal tax.

Th only thing to enter about your mother's house would be the property taxes paid, and only the person who actually paid the property tax can enter that on a tax return.   Unless you are the one who paid the tax, you cannot enter it on your return.   If your mother paid her property tax, she can enter it.   And....unless your mom  has enough other itemized deductions like mortgage interest ("house is paid off"), medical expenses, charity donations, etc. to exceed her standard deduction, entering property tax would have no effect your mother's refund or tax due.
