The first step to getting a situation in TurboTax to be reviewed and investigated by the development team is to provide them with a diagnostic tax data file demonstrating the circumstance. If you would be willing to provide a diagnostic copy of your return, that would be helpful. The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.
To provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number in a follow-up thread.
Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:
Sign in to your account and be sure you are in your tax return.
Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
Select Tools.
Select Share my file with agent.
A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
Post the token number here.
If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:
Select Online at the top of the screen.
Select Send Tax File to Agent.
Click OK.
Post the token number here.
If you are using a Mac version of TurboTax, use these steps:
Go to the Menu at the top of the screen and select Help.
Then, Send Tax File to Agent.
Post the token number here.

It depends. If you have no taxable income during a year, you do not need to file a tax return.
Even if you do not have a job, IF you have taxable income which could include unemployment compensation, retirement income, social security in some cases, investment income or any other income from any source that is not specifically excluded from being taxable income, then yes, you would still need to file a return if you are over the filing threshold. You would also need to file if you had self-employment income greater than $400, even if you had no other income.
If you did not have income greater than your standard deduction for 2024 or self-employment income greater than $400, then you would not need to file a federal tax return. If you do need to file a return for 2024, you would not be able to file online, but you can use TurboTax Desktop to file for 2024. You would need to print and mail the return as e-filing for the 2024 season is closed.
Here’s who needs to file a tax return in 2024

It may take up to 9 weeks to process your return after you verify it.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

The senior deduction of $6,000 is automatically calculated by TurboTax based on the dates of birth you entered for each spouse.
However, the senior deduction is a tax deduction, not a tax credit. If your taxable income is 0 after your standard deduction, you won't see any benefit from the senior deduction.
The senior additional deduction is not included in the standard deduction but appears on line 37 of Schedule 1-A of your form 1040, with that amount flowing to line 13b of your form 1040.
In TurboTax Online, you can only view Schedule 1-A after registering and paying the TurboTax fee.
But you can preview your form 1040 and check line 13b of your form 1040 which includes the senior deduction among other deductions if applicable, such as the tip deduction, the overtime or the car loan interest deduction.
To preview your form 1040 in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:
Open your return
In the left-hand column, locate Tax Tools, click on the drop-down arrow then click on Tools
On the Tools Center page, click on View Tax Summary
In the left-hand column, click on Preview my 1040
Your form 1040 will display.
Scroll down to line 13b and you should see the amount of this deduction included in this line.

So, on your Massachusetts return how are the fields finally supposed to be filled out or appear, when it's a rollover from a 401 to a Traditional IRA? Is the type in the boxes left unchecked, under Part 3 on form 1? And the amount to the right of where the distribution was sent from left blank. This is how mine appears now, but NO one from TurboTax wants to answer me. Thanks in advance for any help.

This is Sammy from Miami. I had initial problems with form 5695 using TT PC desktop version in late February. The notice I received was to wait until Jan 6 for a TT update. I waited and on Jan 6, I had TT update installed. I deleted form 5695 from my return. I exited TT and rebooted the PC. I then went back into TT and used the step by step feature to add back in the credit I was expecting for my new windows. I reviewed the return and submitted it via TT. I received emails that the Federal and State return were accepted. I am supposing all is well and awaiting a refund. At this point, I am a happy camper and wish to remove myself from this thread. If you are still having issues, I feel for you and hope things get resolved. I will come back here if for some reason my federal return has issues down the road. Sammy From Miami

While entering your form 1099-R, if you have entered a birth date which makes you older than 70 1/2 in the tax year, TurboTax will ask you if any portion of your distribution was transferred to charity. Answer Yes to that question and you can then enter the amount transferred to charity.
The code in box 7 of form 1099-R must be 7 and the box IRA/SEP/SIMPLE must be checked.
TurboTax will then reduce the taxable amount by the amount transferred to charity.

After signing into Intuit to import financial data and later trying to view/file completed 2025 Tax Return on desktop version of 2025 Deluxe turbotax, it's no longer visible and says I have to start over. How do I find it? The 2025 turbotax icon on my desktop keeps showing 2024 taxes and how to start 2025, which I've already done. Thanks.

TurboTax reverts part year NC source income to the full W-2 income amount for the year, over-riding PY/NR allocations entered during the NC state interview. Does anyone have a workaround within TurboTax (e.g. by going to the forms), or will I need to print and mail my forms without e-filing (which seems to trigger this quirky reversion)? Is there an explanation for why TurboTax does this? Many thanks -

Has the IRS approved and released your refund? What do you see in this IRS "Where's My Refund" tool? https://www.irs.gov/refunds The early refund offer is "Up to" 5 days early; i.e., anytime between 1-5 days early. It's based on when the IRS set the refund to be sent. If you don't get your refund at least 1 day earlier than if it had come directly from the IRS, then TurboTax says the fee for that offer won't be charged. NOTE: If you chose to get it in a Credit Karma MoneySpend account, there was no fee anyway. @ atgaines wrote: I have been a long time customer using the desktop version... if I have to re-type all of my info to start a tax return for 2025, I think I will switch to a different service/software. The REMOVE PASSWORD button is not there. I opened the file on my desktop version... no problem. The updater ran to update the desktop software... no problem. BUT I CAN'T REMOVE THE PASSWORD..... FRUSTRATING Between your 2 postings, it appears you are using the 2024 desktop version for Windows. I'll assume you that you DO know the password to the protected file (you said you could open it), but just want to remove it. So if you can get back inside the 2024 return, I'll tell you the steps and provide 2 images. I just tested it tonight, and these images were made tonight. I had no problem creating and then removing the password. Launch 2024 TurboTax Windows version, and choose to open your 2024 return. It will ask for your password. Once the 2024 return interview is open, go to the upper left corner of the interface and click on FILE (image #1 below.) In the dropdown menu choose "Password." Then you should get a popup with the Remove Password button (image #2). Click "Remove Password". You don't have to enter anything else on that popup. It should tell you that the password has been removed. Once you have removed the password, SAVE the file so it will remain without the password. If it doesn't work, please report exactly where you reach a roadblock. . .
