Personally, I would remove the T and Q. Here's why: The education credit is based on those answers. You don't want to claim an education credit on a high school student. It is only allowed 4 times. You want to spend $4k out of pocket to get the maximum refund/credit. If you have already filed and claimed the credit, please check form 8863 to see what credit you have. You may want to consider doing an amended. If the 529 completely covered the tuition, then you would not have claimed the credit. In fact, you would not need to enter the T or the Q and you would be set to claim the credit in future years. Your child probably has scholarships in place for college. Please see another post here to help you plan ahead.

My 1099-B has sale of stock where the financial institution says the term the stock was held is unknown and does not know the basis.  In other words, it only has sale date and proceeds. I entered the basis for this sale in TurboTax, but I did not see a way to provide the date acquired so it could be identified as a long term transaction.  Turbo tax said I needed to mail form 8949 with the detail of date acquired and basis within 3 days of the IRS accepting my return.     How does Turbo Tax treat the transaction to calculate the tax owed if it does not know if the sale was long term or short term sale?

after filling in what I thought was the correct information, and retrying with different numbers and such, it always reports that I'm not eligible for the credit, when I should be eligible

It  depends. You can file your tax return even if Form 8949 is part of the tax return. It will not change your numbers or tax liability in any way. If you would like you can use the information below to send a copy of your file.    If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  (Don't forget to give us the state)   TurboTax Online: Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.  Then select Tools below Tax Tools. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.   On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information. TurboTax Desktop: If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps: Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number. Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return. *If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')   We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.   @gideonesq17

Thanks for your comment.  I am required to file 2026 Form 1040ES and TurboTax would generate the forms with the watermark "Do Not File Form Not Final.  My disappointment is simply that it took TurboTax 2wks after the IRS finalized the form to incorporated into their software when the only change that was made to the form was a corrected mailing address.

You can't email it, but you can e-file it.  Sign in to your TurboTax account and go to your Tax Home. Scroll down to the section titled "Your tax returns & documents." Keep in mind, you need to have e-filed your federal return first or at the same time as e-filing your state.   Click on "Add a State" (you aren't actually adding a state; this is just away to reopen your return). Once the return is open, select File from the left-hand menu. You will see a screen that says something like "Just one more step." Click Start or Revisit next to Step 3. On the "Let’s get ready to e-file" screen, select the option "I want to e-file." Follow the prompts to enter your bank info (if needed) and click the "Transmit Returns Now" button.

To claim no federal income tax on tips in TurboTax for the 2025 tax year, enter your W-2 as normal. If qualified (voluntary tips in traditional service roles), TurboTax will use the tip amount in Box 7 to calculate the deduction, up to $25,000, on the new Schedule 1-A.   If your tips are included in your Box 1 amount, but not reported in Box 7, you can enter the amount in Box 14 (which is informational), even if this is not on your W-2. After you enter the W2, there will be a screen titled Do any of these uncommon situations apply?   Choose Tips included in box 1 of my W-2, but not in boxes 7 or 14.      Here's more info on No Tax on Tips.       @prodalphaant

I know this was previously an issue.   You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
